Curiously, when I feel I need more privacy, I uncheck my friends ability to see me in world in my friends list. I see them come on line, then a few minutes later they are IMing me asking me what I am up to. They still see me in world!! Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I reported it to Linden as a possble bug. Has anyone else had this problem?

Are you sure they can see you online on their friend's list? You must uncheck the 'can see my online status' on the friend's list box, and the eye will disappear next to their name. There are other ways to see if you are online. They may be sending you IMs to see if you are online; it wont say "user not online, message saved" so they will know you are online. Also, friends that are in the same groups as you can see that you are online in the group member list.

you have to log off first, then relog for it work. It will not show you online the moment you uncheck the box. If this does not fix your problem, then perhaps there is a bug that I am not aware of.

Is "Appear Offline" broken?
/327/62/231031/1.html It's been broken for weeks now . If they log on while you're already online, you'll appear to be online to them. If you log on while they're already online, it won't show them that you just came online. It seems to be broken in general as well: a lot of times I'll get an "is offline" notice for people I never saw online at all. |

Unless this has changed in the last 2 months, it should work instantly. I tested it with a friend some time ago, and the monent i unchecked the "can see my online status" the friend got the message "Blinky Lane is offline".Haven't retested it with latest RC or windlight versions so they may handle it differently now.
As got not seeing folks go offline, this seems to now occur if their client crashes, i have one friend that came online 4 times in an hour without ever getting a logoff message, when I asked they said the game was crashing. |

They can see you online
1) in any groups where you share membership 2) as a green dot on the map, if they know where you are hanging out 3) in their radar when they are not more than 96 m distant from you 4) by not getting a response when they are IM'ing you Bottom line: You can't really hide. ![]() |

I think that your profile still shows you as being on line.
I also wonder if the notecard on you in thier inventory still shows you as on line. Love June |

Thanks everyone, but none of this helps. I would like total privacy at times. By unchecking the "can see your on-line status" button in the Friends list should, I would think, cover all possibilities, or what is the point of doing it?
I mean, I can't be the only one concerned over this. |

There is a space under preferences you need to check or uncheck as well, I think that might help. If not, sorry, I do remember getting told a month or so ago that it was broken =/

Thanks everyone, but none of this helps. I would like total privacy at times. Nope, not possible. Most likely your friends are using a HUD such as the k-tech scry which you can set to show the online status of any user. Really only way is to get an alt. |

I've noticed some people that have removed me from their friend list being on-line this way. Always sad. Rather they (LL) just took the calling card away at the same time the name disappears from the list. _____________________
