I looked good animations for my character. those standing sitting etc. I know that henanimation make good animations, ok i went there and tired male animations. but why the hell all animations bust move my avatar like he is somekind of macho, and this is not only the henanimation problem. there are many others. but then i started to look male avatars. and there are lots of those who are like 2.9m in height. my avatatr is about 2m but i still feel like little guy if i am with "normal" male avatars. Oh and have you guys tried male shapes, most of them making you as somekind of bodybuilder. and yes for thosekind of avatars you need macho animations and stuff. why is that so?

Let's see. There's an anime cosplay place in Netherbeck that's got some good Bishounen avatars, I think I saw a Tuxedo Mask there. Then go to Happy Dispatch and get their "Cutesy" male animation overrider. If you want to try the furry side, Uchi Desmoulin's place in Curious has the cutest male avatars on the grid.

How do you know if an animation is furry or not? (^_^)

I suggested three places, try the other two.

Happy Dispatch. Normal guy animations.

The animation cosplay place in Netherbeck. Normal guy avatars with normal guy shapes.

I'm using an AO from vista, whats it called again, which is pretty good, casual, and not exactly macho.

My male alt has the Sensual Male AO from Vista. The walk is a little stick-up-the-butt-ish, but, surely not a machismo AO. (^_^)

Oh and have you guys tried male shapes, most of them making you as somekind of bodybuilder.
Most good shapes are mod/copy. If the face is something you like the look of, make a copy of the shape and use the sliders to start dialing down the areas you don't like until you have a shape that you feel more comfortable with.

My shape is from KMADD (they have all kinds of shapes, divided by section, from bodybuilder to slender and more youthful shapes). I bought it because I liked the face, but the torso, shoulders, arms and legs were far too muscular for my liking, so I made a copy and tweaked it until I had a more defined "swimmer's body" shape.

Animations: I agree that the macho pacing around animation is getting old now; so many guys have it that it's becoming as much of a cliché as those female AOs with the static freebie model poses or the "let me bend forward and show you where the sun doesn't shine" poses. Try looking around somewhere like Animation Warehouse. They have pulled together tens of different animators into a giant animations mall, and you're bound to find something there.

I have to say that Vista animations annoy the hell out of me: it seems they never heard of lead-in/lead-out so the stands snap from one pose to another like badly cut newsreel footage. Unfortunately I bought a shower of their stuff before I understood animations don't have to work like that. I also learned they're far too busy to respond to a civil enquiry from a customer.

If the OP wants, he can have my entire inventory of Vista AO animatons for free. I won't even transfer them to my alts, despite the fact I still have a couple of duckwalkers in the stable.

Not being some kind of blond Adonis in SL gets me He-Man shapes dropped on me regularly by strangers :P The first time this happened, it was from a huge bulking man with a girl on each arm, who explained that he was a midget in real life.

I'm afraid I can't help much with the AO thing cause I'm pretty old school. I do occasionally use the "Smooth Cool AO" which is a pretty groovy pimp walk.

I have the Vista Business AO, couple of the walks are fairly good. definitely not macho. But another one to checkout is ‘Outrider animations’ I do have a few of their sits and stands animations that have the “normal guy” stance.

There was a thread awhile back with advice concerning AOs. Maybe some of the places mentioned will suit you.

I wrote a little about a more "gentlemanly AO" on my blog here:

http://www.sge-sl.com/elric_anatine/89/a-gentlemanly-ao/

and

http://www.sge-sl.com/elric_anatine/95/a-gentlemanly-ao-part-ii/

I've combined two different AOs and specifically selected the animations for the various postures. It seems to work well enough, and although I'm not 100% pleased, for now it satisfies.

I wear this AO (one variation to be used with a cane and one without) in both human and furry form, and it works well. My human self is far from an Adonis, and this AO works to reflect that.

Good luck! There is some great advice already here in the thread.

I have a sharp wit, and one day I poked myself in the eye with it :)

BTW, it was my right eye, not my left.

I'd like to second Elric's recommendation of Khamillah's "Gentleman Jim" animations.

I'm no expert but I have been happy with my Akeyo AO, the animations in it are very fluid and realistic.

If you're inclined, you can get a free Franimations notecard from Sirena, then go out to a place like Abranimations (or what have you) and just buy your AO animations piece-meal.

I put together an AO that is probably a bit fidgety, but doesn't make me stand around like He Man on Steroids. My fists don't clench, and I don't pace.

My biggest peeve for male AO's are the ones that make the guy constantly "preen" his head, or stretch like he's bored/tired/can't be bothered. Same with the "looking at the watch" animation.

Dance animations are the same thing: just get a HUD or a chim, and add the dances you want. I have a fairly smooth chim now, and managed not to have break dances or the dances that make me look bored.

As for the shape, just get a mod shape and tweak the sliders till you're reasonably in proportion (ie: don't have tiny head syndrome). It does take a little time and patience, and you have to remember that all the sliders work together, so just tweaking the height or the body thickness isn't going to make you look right.

Ephraim where do you buy your anims from? Right now I have the vista ao but as you I don't like the way the standing anims snaps from one to the other. I would like to buy one that does not do that.

Also would like to find some good face anims. If anyone can point me to a good place to buy some for my ao. :)

That is precisely what I did with my human form as well, and it's great advice. There are a few very nice creators of male mod shapes, and using one as a base to tweak to satisfaction is very rewarding and almost assures you of a unique look.

Just remember to save versions along the way so that you can return to a previous shape if you realize after the fact it wasn't quite to your liking and that "oh gosh, that one I had last week was better... now where were the sliders at again?".

This thread is a bit old, but i bump it up, maybe some other search for different AO's for men.

I have the Oracul Pure Lady AO, and I've been very happy for it. It's only 300L and many animations. It's mod and copy, so it's possible to take out animations or add on others.

They have a Mr Smart AO and it specifically says that it don't have "strong/bad elements" and that even women can use it. Please remember that this is an ESL creator, he writes a bit strange in his ad. But if you are familar with other AO's, this shouldn't be a big problem. For what I see in the pictures, he's included both male and female walks.

Bare Rose offers a free male and a free female AO, you could try those out and see if they are better. In the freebie box pile.
