Hm. I've applied to become a dancer to see if I even have a chance at being a escort (my roleplay seriously confuses some people i.e. - The female known by name Zee, crossed her arms across the endowed expansion of her chest, lips set in defiant frown. Brow furrowed as she gaze across the new batch of 'clients' - Yeahhhh. That was a bad example but over all. That's how I roleplay. I don't do skimpy short posting, that's noobish. But anyway, getting back on topic. When I dance, I do have lag (horrible stuff, that normally to me, makes the background become gray blops.)but I'm positive it's right to others, and I think my avatar looks good. So I never get tips which makes me sad. But but whyyyyy?
If only this was the Chats again. Hummm....

Heh. I only do that with my friend. It was example of my natural skill with it.
That first person stuff makes me feel soooo degraded.
I arrived here from the MySpace chats, doing first person brands you a noob. Third person is the so called 'superior' way on myspace. The third person is what confuses them normally. Besides, while I dance I have a tendency to speak when spoken to especially around the louder girls. The lag keeps my typing appeared in slow 2-3 letters at a time. So my time doubles up then it's seven-fold when it is attempting to show in world.

I am sorry to say that you will never make it as an escort if you talk in the third person. If you don't want to be degraded then you have no business being an escort. It is best to talk just as you do in first life. :)

When you use /me doesn't that make you talk like in third person? "Bree Giffen hands you a bag of popcorn" is what you'd see in the chat window. I agree that you shouldn't bother using 'the person known as' and just use /me blah blah blah.

Dear, this isn't Myspace or AOL. This is a community of adults and most of us speak like adults. :D

I think most of dancing is geared to the Barbie and Ken type of mentality even in
alternative places.
Not sure if there is much demand for "Butch" dominate dance moves if you know
what I mean.
Maybe if you do that with a whip and wiggle with certain latex outfit it could work.
Lag sucks it might be your settings or computer.

The idea is to act like yourself. Try it and you may like it. I have a friend who was an escort in her early days of SL and she made quite a bit of money just acting like herself. ;)

Men in SL are like the ones in first life. As long as you are complimenting them on their manliness and making them feel like bigshots you can succeed.

Your natural skill? Honey, the example you gave is a grammatical and linguistic disaster. First person or third, I had trouble figuring out what you were trying to express. "...endowed expansion of her chest" ? ? ? Is it an 'expanse', or is she breathing deeply?
Of course your roleplaying confuses people but it's probably not because of what voice you're using. :)
I'm assuming that English is not your first language, and that the lack of tips may be rooted in communication problems rather than lag.

Lag IS of course a problem and, if anything, you will usually look better to yourself close up than you do to others at a distance (unless your outfit is actually contributing to the lag - try to reduce prims and turn off the bling). You really won't be able to tell how you look to everyone unless you ask them.
Considering that there is no actual talent involved in dancing in SL (since you are running an animation), what sets you apart is how you look and how you talk. Since it's not that difficult for people to look good, your conversation is what matters.

You may want to reconsider your aversion to "short skimpy posting". Conversation moves so quickly in a crowded SL room that people won't have a clue what you're talking about by the time you finish typing your opus. Or, if alone with someone, they might get bored waiting for you. You can send long tracts of text broken down into pieces so that your conversation partner knows you're still there.

I am a dancer, not an escort.

It's personally insulting to those of us who are artists in the dance realm, work hard to express our artform here with less than effective tools, (compared with photographers, designers, etc), and make the most of what little we have to work with in creating actual dance here... but to have people thoughtlessly use the word "dancer" meaning "escort" is downright disrespectful.

/me moves slowly against the cold steel pole, licking her lips as her eyes move slowly over the crowded room. She catches (insert name) eye and winks, smiling impishly as she moves her hand over her (body part).

I got tips :P

Edit: never escorted only danced

Yeah, I can't say as I ever associated the word "superior" with absolutely anything from My Space.

I am not known to perform any lagging night club but I have fun example with one
of Sol's free flight and other free dances I got a bit back and psychedelic light show.
It amused me for days.
There is lot of different visual displays that could be done that seldom can be shown properly because of know how, lag and lack of imagination.
If only I knew how to make videos I could show you what I mean.

I don't work as a professional dancer or do escort stuff but my tips on dancing are: Get some good dances of your own and use the dances appropriately. If you're wearing a skirt or dress, don't try to do dances in SL that you wouldn't attempt in RL when so-dressed, as the graphics start to look unrealistic.

First person is not at all noobish in Second Life. I've been here over 2 years and it's be ME, ME and MEEEE all the way LOL LOL:D Also long chat posts tends to irritate people and usually get superceded by someone else saying 'HHOOOOWWWLLSSS' before you've had time to finish reading it. Short posts are best, medium ones if you have something really worthwhile or amusing to say!

This is probably about the best advice in this thread: Go to Gor, get yourself collared, and learn to dance. Everything (and I do mean everything) about the sample dance emote is completely wrong. Start over. And Gor dance training at least give you some examples to work with (conveniently enough, in the third person, albeit a very specialized form of third person).

This is so true I see dancers post a freakin Novel.. The highest paid dancers I have seen keep it short and sweet. Honestly in RL would you get a Danielle Steele Thank you for a buck?
