Crash? Look how many sim$$$ they sold this year and how much tier they collecting.
And Land prices are set really low now for the potential boom period now approaching
But yes they have to keep the boat afloat and stay out of now icy waters

I don't think premium members is the ideal metric. If people are going basic and renting from Raymond on his mainland sims, the land is still in demand. One landlord can represent the land requirements of 16-20 people per sim. I don't know what the ideal measure is. Some factor of active accounts or concurrency. I do know there is a lot of yellow on the map, all the same. Do the Lindens post the amount of active land owned & held (NOT up for sale) anywhere? What would be the appropriate categories for land? * Protected Linden owned land * Reclaimed/abandoned Linden owned land * Resident owned land (rentals would count in this category) * Land for sale It would be interesting to track the percentages for these categories over time. I am not certain the data is available currently, though. |

how are you going to get the metics for rentals ???, LL can work on the figures based on tier payments.. but certainly it doesnt know that Avatar X is renting from Avatar Y becasue its an inworld transaction that might as well be for a sex bed as a months rent

all the plots in the shark sim are still priced at 12m, or higher, and all seem to sell quite well.

i still don't understand why it would suddenly grow in early winter months. what am i not understanding? Umm ... people tend to spend more time indoors in the winter months, and therefore more time before their computer screens. Virtually *every* online service or game experiences a sharpish decline in usage beginning in May/June, and then things pick up again in October/November timeframes. For many people, heavy online time is a "seasonal" thing. |

I think the big dump in August was in preparation to keep the prices low for the Autumn but they did a bit too much and a bit too early.

About US$1700 for 1/4 sim - of land actually controlled by someone else who can boot 'the buyer' out on a whim! Only about 27L/metre! And only badly (as opposed to massively) lagged by campers and whatever they are camping in. This means that I can buy a whole mainland sim for about US$1300 in the upcoming auctions and sell it at 27L/metre - for nearly US$7000. Wowsa!!! eh? Doesn't it? Or does it mean that whereas I would be "selling it", nobody would be 'buying it'. Hmmmm. Maybe the latter. ![]() Oh well, back to the day job. |

The asking price means nothing, nada, zilch. It's the selling price that matters. But we all know that already.

with the announcement just made on IDV? Good luck.. In the words of Roseanne Rosannadanna, "If it's not one thing it's another." These little perturbations can't help growth. Every time a new bombshell hits the blog, I'm reminded of SimCity, where the player builds till the citizens are all happy taxpayers, only to have Godzilla traipse through, setting random fires and adding unwanted entropy. |

Given that you can't restrict PG land at all, that means no sexual content there at all, whether you lock your doors and pull your shades or not. I can't believe a lot of people are going to rent or buy property in PG areas after that takes hold, and even walking around your house nude puts you in jeopardy. Whether mature areas are hit or not will depend entirely on how universal verification is.
I, personally, don't believe a lot of people are going to do it. I think you'll have core users that do, and there will be sims with tight units of people who are friends who meet and can't tolerate being locked out. I think most people, the generic user, will just hop from spot to spot hoping to wander into somewhere interesting that allows them in, and just give up eventually and go do something else. For a private home, that wouldn't effect land prices really. People who visit you are probably going to be verified as you are. For big sims with mature content that need a lot of traffic, though, I can't see how that era isn't soon over. I think the era of these high-tier mature sims is on borrowed time. How that will effect prices? You be the judge. People are either going to have to convince the world to verify themselves, or keep it in their pants and find something else interesting enough to warrant huge tier costs. |

If the restricted parcel flag is too restrictive then it won't just be land that takes a tumble.

I think it will depend on if IDV turns the simple bleeding of lost premium accounts into a full hemorrhage or not. Loss of premium accounts = loss of potential land buyers.

I don't think it has a lot to do with premium accounts, honestly. It doesn't take many premium accounts to keep the land business going, after all, compared to the population how many people wheel and deal?
On the other hand, if those people don't have armies of people to rent to, to sell things to, to generate revenue from, etc., then what is the point of buying the property to begin with? It is a problem when we start considering a commodity to have innate value, when its value is really in its use. For instance, if you had a warehouse full of manual typewriters right now, what would the innate value be as compared to what it would have been 50 years ago? Well, if the masses are bouncing off the wall of your sim and you can't make money, then times have changed your parcel into a manual typewriter. So, in the end, it is how many of the unwashed that can enter restricted parcels that will matter. If they can't, then selling land will be like selling typewriters... |
