I don't think anyone's mentioned this blog post,

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/13/your-chance-for-a-shop-in-luna-oaks-galleria-or-busy-bens-vehicle-lot/#more-1733

If you are into building vehicles, this seems like a wonderful opportunity and
a great way to meet like-minded individuals and exchange ideas.

I am interested in such idea of a mall as well.

However, i think the little details such as in "period of time" and if people do profit sharing and how would be hard to handle. Anyone got any good inputs?

Well thats very generous, I wonder how they promoted themselves and if they actually filled their places.

I found Kaizen because they were running a Chinese New Year scavenger hunt (which was actually creatively handled and had a few good prizes, unlike all the pointless Valentine's hunts going on at the same time).

The mall consisted of a handful of medium-size stores, a handful of small stores, and even a couple of office spaces -- a DJ company and a reiki healer, if I remember correctly. There was also a handful of empty small shops, but the area was pretty enough and busy enough that it didn't feel dead. They had an info notecard about the incubator spaces; I remember being very impressed that it said you could qualify for a newbie space pretty much as long as you thought you needed it. The area wasn't big enough or busy enough that it would really attract leeches, but it seemed (to me) just right for a real starter business -- and perfect for one that matched its Asian theme.

[For the record, no, I'm not involved with Kaizen in any way. :-) But publicity is what you get for running a _good_ scavenger hunt instead of a badly managed one.]

The place I started out at was The Commons, the owner offers free space for new designers, but it is themed a bit. From what I remember though, it's a loose theme. Try a search for The Commons, Eyre. It's right down the way from where my shop is in Caledon.

We offered a free month's rent on our shop spaces to new businesses. They filled up in days!

We may do this again, as our new merchants grow up and move on to bigger spaces.

Is there anywhere for new designers in SL to advertise and display their designs free of charge.

I know they can use Slexchange and other external sites and just pay a commision type charge on the sale but is there anywhere in world that offers the space and place for new designers to showcase their products and to help them gain the experience and knowledge.

Designers may be very talented but not so fortunate to have the money to invest in land or rentals to have their own shop

Some may only have 1 or 2 products and see no return on their investment from renting or owning land.

Some may be deterred or lack the experience and knowledge of how to promote their products'.

I constantly read and here about residents asking questions on how to do this and how to do that, but to actually promote their end product what do they do?

I don't get out much to explore so I would be interested if anyone knows of such a place or places that allows would be designers their first step into the market place without taking on the usual commitments of rental or buying.

Larrie, I don't mean to sound harsh, but if someone is a 'good' designer, ready to showcase their work to the public, I have a very hard time believing they can't come up with enough Lindens to support a few key vendor locations. We are talking less than $5 a week here...just to get started. And if the product is quality, they will quickly break even on the small vendor space rentals.

Then, once they are collecting a few Lindens, breaking even, or making profit, the business owner can then think about expanding.

But to get started, with either one, or a few small vendors costs literally dollars a week. If you are at the age where you can create a quality product, I see no reason why you can't have a few dollars lying around to invest in your business venture. And like mentioned on previous posts, setting up a SLex store for free, can easily support a few small vendor spots in-world.

But that sounds like Free as in Free products or Free to place your products?
and do you know if the person placing the objects receives the Lindens if products are sold?

I am really looking to see if there is anywhere for designers regardless of age are able to promote their products, a bit like an artist in RL would promote his/her paintings in the local Town Hall for a month.

No we receive not a single Linden from any sales by others, we are not subsidized by LL. There is no club to join , no fees, no split profits, its FREE ;-)

We were very impressed with the "pay it forward " kind of treatment we received when we first came into SL. Many old timers were generous with the time and help. This is our attempt to help others.

There are currently 8 open pads, oh btw we are returning to weekly on placements and today was the first cleaning of the pads and should remain tuesdays for clearing the pads for the foreseeable future.

We are Fhelzgud in Sammamish and all are welcomed (except for those on the ban list lol and many of those are no longer in world, go figure :-))
