"Pick one item if you're a newbie"-offers?

When talking with a newbie, in addition to giving them a couple of landmarks to good freebie places, I also usually advise them to keep an eye out for the shops which run a "Pick any one item for free if you're less than a month old" type of promotional offer, since that's a good way to get some high quality stuff which is not just the same freebies everybody else have.
In particular, many hair shops seem to have this type of offer, but I have seen others as well.
So my question is:
Which shops do you know have these, what type of wares are they offering, and preferably their location? (I am not interested in "normal" freebie places).

Free Dove definitely! TONS of stuff!
As the others have said, Sin Skins...it's ok quality...but the person has to be at LEAST 24 hrs old, otherwise it won't sell to them.

Shameless plug:
I used to do that with a $300 gift cert to newbies who went to The Shelter...but my connection there isn't on SL anymore I don't think.

I'd love to do it again, but I don't know who to contact really. And I want REAL newbies...ones less than 30 days old anyways.

If someone knows or is doing this at their store, please IM me in world.

Thanks and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Szentasha very good lingerie store. Anything you want. Very racy stuff available too!

Sin Skin, but let me tell you, finding the newbie place for this is a pain! It's not in their main store. I have the landmark, just can't get in right now to give it to you.

Hi Tali,

First of all, are you aware of Lucrezia Lamont's new resident information kit? It has quite a few tips along those lines in it, was well as landmarks and tons of other useful information.
If you don't have this package yet, and would like to receive it to hand out as well, feel free to IM me inworld and I'll send it to you.

My first tip: I usually drag female new residents to Sin Skin for their 1L package of lovely skins for the under-30 day olds.

I would and do send all newbies to Free Dove. Lots of top designers have free or L$ 1 items there. It's generally better for female avis, but there's still quite a bit of stuff for males.

Sin Skins and others skin makers (help, people) do free skins for newbies up to 30 days old.

There's also a great newbie kit that someone is no doubt posting about as I type ...

A few more places...

There's a few great freebies from Nicki Ree....really nice items
Lot's of great freebies on sites such as onrez and slex too.
I'm putting together a package at the moment with items that I think would really be of use to new residents.....

It's great to be able to help someone get a head-start when they first join SL.....

Too many times I think that new residents are kind of 'looked down upon' for some reason....

Oh..nearly forgot.....Alady also have a great freebie package, shapes skins...even prim lashes. Pixel Dolls also have a huge freebie package with all sorts of goodies from shapes, skins to clothing and hud's.

That reminds me, you can get, for $1, the freebie version of Mystitool which is great thing to have. Search for it, its at Avondale Square I think in a store there. There is a full version for sale to but it is pricey and the $1 version is fantastic. Gives you wonderful tools such as an Emoter (you can do things like smile, frown, scowl), flight tool, lets you know what other av's are in your area, lets you play dead, lots of other things. Great fun, well worth the buck.

As for OnRez, yes, I got a lot of free stuff from them!

Bree! Thanks for reminding me about that. I just created another alt! She needs cash and I don't want to supplement her!

/me runs out to find a map of all the money trees in SL...

I think the OP meant something like the gUrl6 offer for a free hair of choice from the entire collection, rather than a hair specific for newbies that everyone else will have already.

Diversity Hair had that offer to pick one hair from the store. I'm not sure if it's still available.

These forums are fantastic for information. I don't know how many days old I am, but I must be close to 30 or maybe just over, now, so have missed out. Never mind, am having fun shopping :D :D

well, considering the newbie doesn't say "How?" to every landmark you give them, ARRRGGGG that ticks me off SOOO much!

ALADY is good - they even have men's stuff.

I also have a bunch of LMs that I give to newbies - great places to explore like Svarga, etc.

I also carry around a bunch of notecards (help notecards) in French and German (as well as English of course!), etc. - it really helps some people.

And Elora has nicely summed up why I took down my money tree.

HBO has three orientation islands that are a simplified version of the main orientation island. They have four avatar packages for free with skin, shape, and clothing. Not the best on SL but they are very nice beginning stuff. Two male and two female avatars. Best part is they are free and offer help with appearance.

I know that Dellybean North of True North Designs in Goun has a freebie box called "The Mother of All Freebie Boxes". Since I've been in-world for just over a year and I need to do another purge of my Inventory, I don't need get one and open it up,lolol. I do know that Delly would only put good items in her freebie box. She's a business owner who knows the importance of not putting junk in a freebie box. I can't tell you how many freebie boxes I deleted when I first came into SL, so much of it was not worth keeping. And Barefoot Designs/Barefoot Apparely in Snafu has a freebie pair of men's shorts and a freebie dinghy, both are quality and well worth keeping.

I don't blame you. I was making a joke which is sometimes hard to access when writing. I never took advantage of any of them the first time around. I just bought lindens and was done with it because I couldn't be bothered running around trying to find ways to make money. Too much to see and do here. $1000L = $4 US, big deal. I have a credit card, easy enough to use :D.

While its a great store, I'm afraid that's not the case any longer.

Chatting to a friendly new SL-er in the past couple of days I came across a notecard voucher offering just that so I dropped it on her along with whatever else I thought she might be able to use. The LM and voucher were rather old it turns out, (about 2 years !! :o ), the store having moved since, but we soon found our way there via good ole search.

On arrival my new pal was a little apprehensive and like most fellas in a lasses' clothes store I was outta my depth and not much help :D hee !! - but we were welcomed and attended to by a most friendly and stunning avie called Dirjha who obviously knew her stuff and showed us around. ( - if shes reading this... LOVE dem boots D !! heheh!! )
Feeling a 'lil responsible for us being there and my new pal's disappointment I set her up a few bits n bobs, but I'm sure she'll be back there under her own steam 'cos they have a few nice 1L noob-pocket-friendly things too.

*hugs Elora* isn't it annoying how easy it is to misread typing? *blush*

I am just a total soft touch. When I bump into visitors to my island, if we get chatting and they seem like a decent sort of person, I inevitably give them some freebies.

If they are pretty new, still all ruthyfied or something, I am inclined to dishing out skins and stuff.

If they come across as rude though, I am just 'standard polite'.

I am never going to be a SL millionaire, hehe. But I am happy :-)
