Newbie question about Walking Animations

I went to Abranimations and bought a couple walking animations...followed the directions...but either they didn't work at the store...or I had them working there, but when I teleported out I lost them....as well as the animation file ...the walking animation reverts to the default. I bought the same animation 4 times, thinking I had done something wrong...and still it either didn't work..or it disappeared after TP. I have contacted the creator, but haven't heard back yet.

Can anyone tell me if I am doing anything wrong...or if I need something else? I do have The Be-Bar....but haven't even figured out how to move the animation there for control....even if that is possible. Any guidance would be appreciated... Thx.

Tymus, you need something called an Animation Override (or AO), I use one called ZHAO that I found for free. You put the animations in the AO, tell it what is in there by editing a notecard, and then attach it to your hud. Be careful- I lost a bunch of no copy animations when I was trying to set it up the first time and had to re-purchase them. I'm not familiar with the Be-Bar so I am not sure if it works the same way.

In Chat, try typing "AO On' and see if your walk comes back. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones least tried. If it came, as most of the Abranimation walks do, with an Animation Overrider then it May have just shut off. If you went to a no script area, that Sometimes will shut it down, But not always.

the zhao is free and available at the yadni junkyard

very easy to configure, yes be careful with no copy stuff

I recently lost a no copy piggy back animation due to SL bug that I bought from abranimations

I will try to contact them and see if they will be kind enough to refund me as I bought a second one, was too impatient to wait around for SL or someone to fix it for me

If they do nothing I chalk it up to life on SL

but yes try zhao, if you need help just yell for me in game, if I am not on I will see the msg in my email

You can also pick up a free walk replacer at Dark Delights. Attachments that change your walking animation, ready for use, no configuration needed.

I imported the standard male and female walks of Poser 4 into SL, and since the scripting took only a moment, I decided that I could hardly take any money for 2 uploads and 2 minutes of work.

To move the animation into the AO, you need to rezz the AO onto the floor. Then drag and drop the walk animation from your inventory into the AO on the floor (be careful). Lastly, you need to edit whatever script it's in the AO (Edit, Content Tab) to let it know about the new animation. Then, take the AO back into inventory and wear as normal. If your walk animation is No Copy, then your AO will become No Copy as well, so don't loose it...

You can get ready-made AOs from Abranimations and others that you just wear, no need to configure. You can try them out in the store to see all the various animations they contain and choose the one you like best.

(Also see Aleister's post if the walk is the only thing you want to change)

Eventually, I would recommend that you get a more complex one that you can customize because that allows you to mix and match the specific animations you want rather than have an all-or-nothing set. I use Huddles which allows me to have multiple AO sets and has a host of other features as well.

But for a newbie who doesn't want to spend a lot of time figuring out how to configure, I think the ready-made may be the way to go.

I have a walk replacer that works automatically. I also have a standing animation but I have to find and play it when I want to use it. It feels like an excess step. I'd like to have other animations like for when I run or fly or sit, etc. Can multiple things like this be packed in an AO and work as smoothly as when I just have the mouse and arrow keys going or do I have to pull up each one and make like I'm driving a clutch while putting on the turn signal, adjusting the wipers and changing the radio station? :confused:

Just my two cents here...

As a new citizen of SL, I recently purchased an AO from Abraminations. I'm not really fluent with the ins and outs of creating my own animations, so I figured I'd try out some of the AO's that are out there to make my life easier, as well as give my avatar more personality. Abraminations is rock solid in the AO performance, style and pricing for the quality of product they offer.

In short, if you really don't want to spend the time creating your own animations, or messing around modifying those you have...take the trip to Abraminations - you won't be disappointed.

my ao is an attachment and has no hud. i never have to do anything other than walk/fly for the animations to work.
inside the ao is a notecard looking something like
-walk
cool_strut
-fly up
flyup3
-fly down
flydown2
it has all the different anis i could need and not need (swimming and whatnot)

until you lose your $3000 ao and have to buy everything all over again.
there are other animation makers out there that do just as good making anis, but sell them copy/no trans.

Keep in mind that once you get your hud set up the first time, you may need to tp somewhere to get it to work. I don't know why this is, but that's what it takes for me with Zhao and any other hud I use. Set it up completely, attach it, and tp somewhere and bam - it works. That gave me a lot of frustration until I got lucky and figured it out by accident.

Mine's the same way, Nina. I picked it up as a freebie from Vixen's mall, then customized it with my own animations. It's really easy.

Are these animations just the things one can buy at Abranimations or similar places? So you can customize which sit, stand, walk, fly that you want and not be restricted to a pre-existing set?

I like my HUDDLES...I have two full AOs set up, as well as additional walks, sits, and ground sits I can cycle through at the click of a button, plus all my dances. And I'm quite sure that I'm not utilizing it to its utmost. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Hi Bod,

Yes. If you get a modifylable AO (they are around for free) then you can load it with the individual walks and animations that you buy/create and tell it when to use the (i.e. replace default hover with "name of custom hover";). Mine works with a notecard and was pretty easy to set up. What I did was buy a modifyable AO that included several animations I liked (a free ZHAO preloaded with a small set of animations). Then, I bought some additional animations and added those too. I have been very happy with it. It has a tiny little HUD menu that collapses to a singel button but that I can expand if I wasnt to manually select a new animation, otherwise it drives itself.

Yes, here's how it works.

Pick up an Animation Overrider (AO) for free. Someone mentioned YadNi; I found mine at Vixen's mall. I'm sure they're all over the place.

Go to an animations shop, buy an animation, say 'sexy walk'.

Detach your AO if you're wearing it, into the inventory. Rez it inworld. Edit the contents.

Drag the Sexy Walk anim from inventory to the contents of the AO.

Edit the notecard that is in the contents of the AO.

Each pose in SL has a default pose. To override those defaults, enter in the name of the new pose into the card in the correct place, e.g.

==walk==
Sexy Walk
==fly==
superman
==swim==

==hover==
etc

See how "swim" is left blank? That means that I'm fine with the default swim anim, and don't wish to replace it.

Save the notecard and close the AO. Take it back into your inventory and wear it, or just wear it from inworld. You may need to type '/ao on' in order to make it work. To turn it off, just type /ao off.

I don't have a HUD for my AO, but I don't really feel a huge desire to have one; it just takes up screen real estate, in one girl's opinion. Others love the HUD; it's completely up to you.

Kind of off-topic, but I *HIGHLY* recommend the new ZHAO-2, both as a great free AO HUD for new users and as an upgrade to existing ZHAO users. It takes up less screen space, is more attractive (in my opinion), is more sim-friendly with regard to script usage, and somehow manages to be even more flexible and easy to use at the same time. And it doesn't suffer from that weird SL bug where the wrong prim shows up in front due to alpha-sorting issues.

Look in Ziggy Puff's picks for where to pick one up for free. Really good stuff.

Thanks so much for the additional info and the step-by-step. I think I get it now. I can grasp most other things but for some reason I was all duh on this. I'll give it all a look as soon as I get a chance! :D

Don't forget that with the ZHAO you need to load the notecard before it will work properly.

This is exactly the info I was looking for! I've spent (far too many) hours on my facial features, and couldn't count the number of different clothes I've tried (being a girl is so much fun :) ). But I know that my walk and stand anis give me away as an ubernoob. I can't wait to get home and try this out. This forum is great :D
