Woof! Newbie herding is almost as hard as cat herding. But I don't see how it could be a crime.

Nice necropost to dig up for the new year!

I look at newbie herding as performing a valuable community service.

ya but im talking horseback in a rodeo areana lol,, I do this once in awhile, help out the newbs, when I started, I wandered around and didnt get any help and didnt learn much at all, so I go and chat at the noobs that ask questions and let them know that there is alot out there to do in sl that dont have to be about sex. Cracks me up, the ones that come up to you and just ask wanna *(^%? like Im gonna say omg yes I have been waiting all my sl life just for you. Drop everything and lets go hahaha its abit sad really. So just like with the bloodlines, lol, I say ok meet me at this location and hand them the LM that lands them in my campfire that lights them up until they find linden water to put themselves out lol.

For those who do not know, Newbie Herding is a method of building up armies of loyal customers (through) the use of viral mentoring. Your minions of mentoring hang out in infohubs where new users are 'born' and you teach them things, give them things, gain [their] trust and love and then direct market them on where to shop and what to buy and whom to buy it from. There are many groups that do this, each with [their] own set of clients and goals for what they want all the newbies they herd to do.

Sounds a lot like RL marketing/media to me.

They must have been slacking on my arrival as I never seen it or heard of it.

EDIT: lol, year old post... People getting bored on the forums? Need more bitching threads?

Newbie-herding? A crime? Hardly! I consider it more of a service - perhaps not so much for the newbies, but for the rest of us who won't have to deal with these scores of newbies running loose on the grid, free and without direction! :p

And to anybody who can successfully pull off such a feat - I commend you! You certainly have a lot more patience than I!

Thread necromancy FTW.... Braaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinssssssssssssss! :p

So let me get this straight. "Newbie herding" is when you lurk at infohubs until brand-new users show up, and then pretend you're "helping them learn SL" while in reality just yanking them to your store to get money out of them. Is this correct?

Hmm. Ethically dubious, I suppose, but I don't see where it'd be against any rules.

give them all freebie skins insist where you've herded them is the only possible place they can go and they should plunk large amounts of rl case into SL and of course dump that into the coral they are all grazing in?
