Im very confused about the new system.

Im trying a keyword which i tried at the beginning of the new system too.

I have this keyword in my land name now and at the beginning too.

2 Month ago i was on position 3 or 4 in the search list, when i searched for the keyword.
Now im at the second page with the same word and land name as two month ago.

I realy dont know how other people come to page one with smaller shops and less quallity.

I can do what i want and i doesnt come to page one again.

Does anybody find out how the new search is working ?

The new search is gamed,

Just like the old search was.

Just like the old search quality and store size/selection have nothing to do with your ranking.

Its all about other elements that can be gamed like number of Avatars Picks for your parcel, Traffic (still to an extent), Keyword spam , etc

Mhhh i thought that already ;)

But its not fair to rank the shops like this...
Linden must do something....

It should not be possible to game the ranking with "illegal" method because than all must game it (even that ones, who want to be fair).

Does anyone create a list with all elements, which the search is using ?

The new search isn't gamed in the way that Colette mentioned, so forget that.

Dropping from #3 or #4 to the second page is most likely due to land owners learning how to optimise their land - something that all land owners should do in order for the system to work well. You need to learn how to do that.

Forget traffic, because it's of so little value that it will only make a tiny difference.

Forget a store's quality and size too - search isn't about those things.

Keyword spam doesn't exist in the new search.

I know that using a few hundred of the prims on your land in the search engine helps. Very time consuming but...

Why not explain this then?

If all land owners should learn it,

and the original poster needs to learn it,

and you know the answer,

Why not answer their original question?

The name on the prims affects your ranking?

I already did - in a thread that people point to when someone asks about the new search. Why don't you explain it?

Phil wrote some excellent tips for the Search, do a search on this forum for his name and the thread will pop up. It helped me get on front page in the search for the keywords I want.
The size of the shop doesn't matter, and how you measure the quality is a mystery to me :-) I do know my competition, but leave it up to my customers to decide about quality...

Good luck, Marcel

heh I keep going up in rankings. I"m not sure why but I had one property on the second page and one almost at the bottom of the first page. The last time i checked they were way up. I have awhile ago come to the decision that if they ever falled past page 2 I would pack up my wares and leave SL. On that note I have to check again. Not everyone games stuff and to be honest there is probably a limit on how much gaming can be done.

@Wilhelm: The Search all is not really about gaming, more about doing your homework. Waiting untill you drop off page 2 isn't very sensible, better do rerular checks and optimize if needed.

@Collette: Even disliking Phil doesn't really call for such reactions, especially since Phil was a great help to get good Search results in the new Search.

@OP: Be aware that whatever changes you make, will take a while before they show results. So after you think you did it all right, relax and sit back a day or two :-)

@Myself: Get some work done instead of hanging around this forum!

Reactions? He basically just told the OP they just need to learn to optimize.

Prior to that he never mentioned that he gave that information in another thread.

Heck I didn't even know about the other thread, How was the OP supposed to know? ESP?

Basically the only effect of his post was to tell me I am wrong without offering other alternatives. Had I not even pressed the other thread wouldn't have been mentioned.

Actually, I didn't address you at all.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who spends a lot of time in this forum, and has done for some considerable time, didn't know about other thread, or the other discussions.

You are right that I didn't explain it, but I did at last say that the OP needs to learn optimise the land for the search, which means that there is a way of doing it, and which imho was considerably better than simply saying words to the effect of, "It's spammed, so you might as well forget it unless you want to spam as well" - that's how it read to me.

If it's ok for everyone to do it, why wouldn't the Lindens program the server to do it automatically?

I went back and looked, the post mentioned is towards the end of a thread that has gone on for some time. I hadn't kept up on it. It is also *NOT* in Resident Answers.

However I wasn't the one who asked the original question. Conny was. How do you know how much time she spends on the forum? As far as I can remember I've never read a thread started by her.

I do not know how you could have expected her to know about that thread. Sorry.

I said that it is gamed. Reading your other post Marcel gave glowing reviews to has not changed that opinion.

Actually, there are quite a few search threads in RA in which Phil has given much advice, but the search tool here is so anemic that it is a wonder that it would be found.

I don't blame Phil for not wanting to type all that stuff out again.

One of those threads needs to be stickied.

the only one that i found was a thread on why NPIOF don't show in the new search (which i am glad...it answered a post yesterday that i posted). Granted...not awake right now, but i went through all 8 pages of his posts, and didn't find a title...ah, well,....guarded secrets again...*chuckles, and toddles off to bed at 8:25am, when should have gone to bed by 4am*

Considering how annoying the search function can be for people who *KNOW* what threads they are looking for;

Expecting those newer to the forums with questions to find things on the forums search is a bit much.

Regardless, I do not blame Phil for not wanting to rehash all that stuff again. This is another "s**t happens" moment. Let it go.

That would mean forcing parcel names and descriptions, and object names and descriptions on people. I don't think anyone would want that.

Then your guess is wrong. I didn't quote you at all. I referred to what you wrote - there's a difference. But I didn't see your response as a 'reaction', as Marcel did. I just saw it typical of you, and I wasn't interested in it.

I've no idea where you looked, and Ive no idea what thread was referenced in this one. I was speaking about a thread I started about why the new search isn't broken. If it's not in RA, it's nothing to do with me. It certainly used to be.

Time out, go to your respective corners. Geez. It's a nonissue. I have posted what I hope is a comprehensive guide to the new search based on the posts solely in RA. Please add to it if I am missing something.

In the interest of actually pointing the OP to the information they need, note that Phil posted lots of great information about optimizing for the new search in the thread Marcel linked, but note that his comments are towards the end of a very loooooong thread. It's worth wading through for the information though, plus there is this other thread he started which delivers information (some of the same information, some different) more directly:
