I would assume SL has a way to report minors who lied about their ages to have access to adult areas. I am just unable to find a place to do that.
No i cant prove his real age but he said he's 14. I can screen shot that he said it...

If he really actually admitted to being 14 in RL, then you can copy-paste the chat in an Abuse Report. But, be careful that you aren't reporting a roleplayer. You could be ruining the day, or week, or month of a perfectly legal SL kid by forcing him through the horrible verification process. (>_<

Thanks
and i tried to talk him into getting a new account with the correct age. I dont think he was role playing as he said i hope i dont get banned. His reasoning was he didnt want to go through newbie island again. |

Yes, just follow the "Report Abuse" process.
Do make an attempt to confirm they meant their RL age was 14, if possible. ------------------------- I really don't understand why minors who know they lied to get into Second Life tell people they are underage once in world. I mean when I was 18 and we went to a bar, if a friend was buying us drinks, we didn't call the attention of the waiter and go "Hey I'm only 18!" ------------------------- The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if some of these people are actually OVER 18 but want to be kicked down to the teen grid, which normally requires some sort of proof to get on. Hopefully the same sort of proof is required in the case of a reported minor being sent off to the teen grid. |

His reasoning was he didnt want to go through newbie island again. I recently met someone who was roleplaying, who did get banned, and who was back on a few days later after providing the appropriate proof. So I don't think his saying "I hope I don't get banned" is a good indicator. I can well imagine an adult roleplaying a kid saying the same thing. |

It's a strange world indeed where you need age verification to exclude yourself from being exposed to mature content.
A bit like going to a bar and having to provide age verification to stop the barman giving you whisky. Lol.. I know.. a really bad analogy. |

(^_^)y What Immy said: I know some SL kids have been dealing with the troubles with SL's rather difficult way of handling underage reports (it involves faxing or mailing them copies of your RL legal paperworks!), and some have had to go through it multiple times. Although, yes, if it does *not* seem to be RP related, then use the usual AR format, and select "age" form the type. Mari (Five anna half!) _____________________

well shouldn't he not be role playing as a 14 yo in a mature area anyway? i mean, if he's doing things to be pretending he's a 14? did that make sense?

I may be clueless about all this, but if someone wants to RP being a kid here, I would think they would write it somewhere in their profile - if only to avoid the hassle being ARed, no?

I had one at my place 6 months ago ,the second time i used voice, the kid asked me to switch voice on and proceeded to give me abuse. It sounded like a young kid ,so I asked and was told 12.I told him that he should not be here and ejected him from the place .I reported the incident in full but heard nothing. This incident had and has shook me ,so much so, have never used voice since nor shall I .

Other than that, we can swear and kill with the rest of them. (^_^) And, yes, I keep putting "Mature" in quotes, because I fail to see the maturity of it all. (>_< ![]() _____________________

Is thre anything to stop them? I believe when someone signs up to Second Life some sort of Verification process is required. My concern is whether or not someone "caught" for being underage on the Main grid is required to go through that same process. Like I said its a bit conspiracy theory - But when you read of the punishment for being underage on the main grid isnt banning but instead is removal to the teen grid .. it leads me to wonder. |

But would simply not proving you are 18+ be all it takes to be sent to the Teen Grid? It would be really dangerous for LL to still not prove the person's real age. |

Would people who have reported minors please say if the kid was wearing a child avatar or an adult avatar? It's been my experience with the few times I've met an admitted minor is that they are wearing adult avatars. Roleplayers on the other hand almost always use child avatars. I can't really see how someone can confuse the two.

I've been in situations where I doubted that anyone around me was an adult... But... That's another story. (>_<

It's been my experience with the few times I've met an admitted minor is that they are wearing adult avatars. Roleplayers on the other hand almost always use child avatars. I can't really see how someone can confuse the two. Yeah this is an important point. If I run into Mari and she tells me she's 5 and a half I'll pretty much assume she's role playing. When a young woman avatar came into my shop and begged me over and over for a job and then during the conversation confided to me that she's actually a child and I suddenly felt very uncomfortable. Especially as at that time there was a sex toys store right next door.! I told her she shouldn't be there, banned her and reported what she said via AR. _____________________

I guess you had to be there to understand the conversation that took place..
Also wouldnt a typical role player have that in their profile? I really believe that he was a minor and was looking to play with adult toys. If I'm Wrong on it then i would apologize to him. He was in an adult body so yea it would make sense a role player would have a body to match. just scares me a bit, i'm a mother of a 10 yr old. I know hes not making fake accounts because i'm always right behind him. But to run into one of his school mates in a sex shop just creeps me out. SL went out of their way to make a place for teens. I just feel it should be used. |

It would be really dangerous for LL to still not prove the person's real age. wouldnt pedophiles just simply not very their age then to be put into teen? A 21 yr old without a credit card would be put into teen also... so it makes it a bit difficult to do that. But i think there needs to be a new way to verify age online other than a credit card. A kid can borrow a parent credit card so it doesnt prove alot now does it? |

SL should take a leaf out of the UK's book... Thatcher got rid of all our minors in the 80s through brute force....
