What's your favorite SL-centric forum?

I tend not to complain about LL: they do a very difficult job, and usually do it very well.

But, I'm annoyed over the XStreetSL changes, and I'm annoyed that we can't talk about alternatives here, and I'm annoyed about other issues with this forum.

I'm ready to move on.

I nearly always recommend to newbies to visit these forums; they've been so valuable. But I think it's time for me to consider alternatives.

So, what's your favorite and why?

Which has the biggest and broadest community?

Which are lowest on drama and highest on helpfulness and cooperation? (I'm usually pretty good at filtering drama, so the existence of drama threads isn't a big issue, as long as it's not too much worse than it is here.)

Are any best for certain interests, like building, scripting, or texturing?

Which one has the hottest girlz? ;)

Thanks

You can talk about xstreet alternatives if I specifically ask you about them! So please, tell me, what alternatives are there? :)

The only other forum I visit at all is SLU.

I wish folk would just hang in here. The alternatives, as far as I've looked at them, tend to be overloaded with bells and whistles, or they're far too slanted in one direction or another. For me, the advantage in this no-longer-official forum is that it is connected directly to the SL interface. I have to say I've had it up to here *raises hand above receding hairline* with bloody passwords and usernames and dingbats and signatures and frickin profiles and general networking bullsh!t on the interwebz at this point. Guess I'm showing my age.

That said, I still can't be arsed with the official forum or blog or whatever it is they thought would make a good replacement for this although I've taken a close look at it along with the other alternatives.

If I really were done with this these forums, I think I'd just do without and focus more on interaction with the community in-world. Otherwise, if that in itself proved to be a deadend, I'd have to give up SL altogether.

This one, because, I don't want to bog my life down forum watching 5 forums a day.

For content creation tips, I've seen nothing that's even a start toward what's here.

In any case, until they nail the doors shut on this place and force us over to the Flogorums, I consider every post to these Forums to be an act of defiance.

This one. The only real problems here are the attempts of one user's attempts to destroy it, and the lack of Linden participation in their official forums.

I lurk at SLU a little.

I hate the SL blog-forums and my account at Second Citizen was rejected, so I won't be either place anytime soon.

That's a bit harsh, since I don't think Rhonda is trying to destroy this place.

Pep (She is just wishing destruction - by cancer - on me.)

PS Do tell us more about your rejection by SC2. :p

Until (unless) they close it, I'll be here. I will post on Linden blog threads, but I no longer post on SL Answers or the Commerce blogrum, and will not stay for any Jive-based successor to this. Either way, I'll continue to drop in on SLU occasionally - not more often than I do now, which is about once a month.

I have spent time at both SLU and SCII. Imho, they are very different from here. Neither has the degree of pure helpfulness that this forum does, perhaps because neither is an official company forum. To at least some of us that obligates us to maintain a welcoming and nonjudgmental tone, so as to fulfill the mission of helping newcomers, no matter who they are.

And, in the tradition of helpfulness, FWIW: Pep, I have long felt that you would have much fun at SLU. At least, you would be playing in the right league there. SCII, not so much.

You will likely get the best discussions on other retailing options over at SLU. They have always had an extremely large content creator user base and are substantially less inflammatory than SCII.

What are the choices other than SLU or SCII that have enough replies to make posting there worthwhile?

This is the only one I use and I've no desire to start using any others.

Lear:
I sincerely hope that you don't leave this one. There are many people here who post very good stuff, but you are one of the two people here whose posts I *always* like to read in threads that I'm interested in. Qie is the other.

I think perhaps slapt.me has a community.

I looked at all of them, and when this hootenanny shuts down, I will either be at Second Citizen (secondcitizen.net) or at slapt.me or both.

Since I look at the Forums mostly while I'm at work, SLU is out of the question because even after turning off all images (which I don't like to do), I still see the ads, which are impossible for my co-workers to miss.

SC is great; really good people. You just have to know which threads to ignore. People can be vulgar, but they are generally very civil. It's moderated, but with a light hand, and not for language.

slapt.me is probably the most even, least drama (if any!). There too, lots of good people.

I felt a good sense of community at both.

As far as I know, these are the alternatives, in no particular order:

Second Citizen MK II: http://www.secondcitizen.net/Forum/

SLUniverse: http://sluniverse.com/

slapt.me: http://slapt.me/phpBB3/index.php

That Other Life: http://www.thatotherlife.com/

I'll use SLU and here but I have to echo Qie's comment about content creation, these forums, not the new blogrums, are second to none for info and help, it's a most wonderful resource and I'll be extremely sad when it goes, especially if I'm expected to go to Second Life Answers to ask the questions I do in the content creation forums.

My streets ahead favourite is SL's Scripting Tips. I really don't know how or where people will learn to script, or discuss more advanced topics, when that goes. And, though I don't use them that much, I can see the other content creation fora are just as valuable.

Of the general ones, this one's certainly my favourite, but after this, SLU. It's got lots of bells and whistles I don't want, but it's so organised I can just ignore most of them.

Nothing comes close to the content creation forums here. SLU, on the other hand, has the highest-calibre critical discussion.

Pep, I have long felt that you would have much fun at SLU. At least, you would be playing in the right league there. SCII, not so much.
I wouldn't last a week in SLU; not because *I* couldn't cope, but because it is obvious that the moderating is completely authoritarian - annoy the boss or his acolytes and you're finished. I am also contemptuous and dismissive of those who substitute profanity for vocabulary - which comment also applies to SCII, where the "moderating" is just as whimsical. Both forums suffer hugely from the in-crowd/in-joke syndrome, and whatever they say about being friendly to new joiners, the reverse is the opposite. SCII appears to give new joiners a hard time intentionally and SLU is just up itself. Neither suit me, and both suffer from a lack of new *and* n00b participants because they are not this forum to which SLers can find their way from the official pages.

Pep (If these forums get closed down I will feel sorry for those who will need "technical" assistance, but less so for those who come here for entertainment.)

Adblock Plus is a great extension for Firefox if you can get away with using that at work. I don't have the problem of people looking over my shoulder because I work at home but I still edit all the crap out of sites I regularly visit. It makes for a much more agreeable browsing experience.

This is the only SL site I am on. Once in a great while I go and read some blog if it is a major topic of conversation here. But, in general, blogs are op/ed or fiction and I prefer non-fiction.

Meh. When they close this forum down, I am likely to just end my SL forum participation completely. Of all the alternatives, only one has been remotely welcoming, and the rest seem to have their own little set of "Forum Royals" which seem to get off on "beating down the n00bs". That's not atypical of forums in general, but it seems to be more intense than normal in the SL ones.

I go to SCmkII and very occasionally to SLU, although I'm not part of any forum ingroup anywhere. I just look for information and go where it's likely to be. SCmkII is friendly but not everyone's cup of tea.

I like this forum a lot - mainly for its content forums, but also because of the opportunity to give and receive help quickly, and to get a sense of SL community.

Oh, Public Service Announcement!

When you register at SC, you have to start a thread in the Ellis Island forum. This is to prove you're not a spammer. (Spammers autoregister forums.)

If you don't post in Ellis Island within two weeks, your registration is deleted.

Just so you know.
