Who has them? Why? What's the story?

Someone was asking about them earlier, and it's a cool idea, but without knowing the backstory, I'd be afraid to make one. Wouldn't want to be anymore uppity than I come by naturally.

Because the Lindens have bears, some people felt that Residents should have them to give out, too. Chris Norse made one. I'm not sure who else, if anyone, has a Signature Bear. Brenda, maybe, with Amelia Bearheart.

Frankly (and no disrespect to Marianne and her magnificent Linden Bear collection) I think the Lindens came up with the idea in order to sell more land. Those cute furry little mementos are PRIMMY, and of course, to display them you need land. If you have lotsa bears, you need lotsa land.

I think Mari could fill up a whole sim with hers.

Are you referring to bears as in "large" gay men and their "cubs"? Or bears? As in "clutching my teddy bear"? Which could refer to the first I s'pose ...
(my cousin's a cub)

Lindens all (or most) have a personalized teddy-bear, that they will give you ususally on request. I think the general protocol is that you can only ask if you meet a Linden IN-THE-MESH.. aka asking over Ims or in forums/blogs is kind of cheating.

The result is sort of a "token of meeting a Linden".. sort of like a trading card.

I can't say why others decided to make their own giveaway bears, but I can tell you why I decided to make mine. Originally I made it as a sort of giveaway to those customers who I met in person. Particularly if they needed help with one of my products. Hand them a bear on their way out.. that sort of thing.

To be honest, the Bear kinda just sat there.. until a friend of mine started doing some sort of Easter-Themed weapon. (okay, not a weapon exactly, it was a basket and you "threw" randomized items.. eggs, candy, etc).. anyways, one of the items he made was a little sculpty penguin, wearing bunny ears.

We joked about how he should do that for every holiday, dressing up a penguin in different outfits, and he wasn't sure that he wanted the penguin to be his "mascot". But while I was thinking about it, I dusted off my little shoulder bear, and added a bunny costume.

So far this year, I've done a few themed bears.. It makes a nice freebie for my shop, and they're usually only available for a week or two at most, so that tends to bring in a few people.

But I still give my original bear out from time to time, To a number of child avatars, and cute neko girls.. I've also given several away to Lindens as well. =)

My Bear has Xcite-enabled hair that spams "ACCESS DENIED: you are not on the access list - so stop touching my fking hair!" It wears a prim mini skirt, bling, Neko ears and tail and prim toenails painted red. Squeeze her belly and she will auto AR you.

I was given a bear by a Linden once. I don't remember who it was, but she was kind of cool; she joined in on an impromptu dance party we were having at Open Latte.

On a side note, Brenda, I want to know why you ALWAYS look so stern in your pictures. Even when holding a bear. Is it because you are always surveying the room, looking for things to duct tape?

Scylla Bear: Blonde Bear with black roots. Sitting on a stack of books wearing a women's rights T-Shirt. Pick one up at her bookstore.

I met one once; she was busy shopping and when I said hello she guiltily claimed to be in a meeting.

Pep (I checked; she was in Human Resources; it figures.)

That's not stern, THIS is stern:

I prefer to be described as pensive

I can't find a smile expression I like, they all look idiotic to me.

My SL Daughter, Reisuki, collects "Linden Bears". I don't recall how many she has so far. Well over a dozen, including one that is huge.

I suppose you could say that I have a "Resident Bear". I made the "Censored Bear" in protest over the Adult Content changes. Cute teddy bear, perfectly innocent looking... Until the word "Linden" or certain other words are said in its presence, whereupon a chainmail and leather muzzle appears on him!

It freezes the blood, that picture does . . .

I have one of those facial expression HUDS, and never use it. The smile looks like I am showing off at the dentist's. I like the "disdain" look, though. I do "haughty" very well.

Another reason I can't imagine playing a human in SL. You just can't get this kind of expression on the SL mesh...

Schoolmarm Brenda!

Brenda, I do use an emoter gadget, but I agree that the smile expressions available to these gadgets are not so hot.

But...try turning up the corners of your mouth a little in Appearance.
