For any British residents who are interested, the CSI/episode Second Life tie-in episode "Down the Rabbit Hole" is on C5 next Saturday. Yes, I hear it's pretty lame, but I'll probably watch it anyway.

I'd love to see it out of curiosity. I dont think we get your C5 over there though, with Sky. Must investigate the adding channels feature to see if i can get it.
Thanks :)

ooo thanks Kelli. I'll set it to remind me. Wouldn't mind watching it. :)

Trick will be convincing my Gran (CSI nutter) that it may not represent SL in a good light.

To tag an actual question to this post: Why can't I create a thread with a title in caps? Is it some setting to stop people SHOUTING TO TRY DRAWING ATTENTION TO THEIR THREADS?

There's a feature on the vBulletin control panel that can be ticked Yes or No for "Prevent Shouting"

Am I the only person to have not seen a single episode of CSI? I might check this particular one out to see what all the fuss is about; thanks for the heads-up.

I've seen the "Down the Rabbit Hole," and I must say that their portrayal of SL is about as realistic as their portrayal of actual crime scene investigations ;)

My defense of CSI and the SL episode:

Yeah, CSI doesn't portray actual investigations completely realistically but how many investigations get solved in less than an hour?

"Down the Rabbit Hole" doesn't portray SL totally accurately but CSI was ensuring they entertained millions of viewers around the world, not assured the accuracy for the thousands who come to SL. So be sure to try and take off your SL glasses before watching or you'll really be disappointed.

Despite my defense, I must admit that "Down the Rabbit Hole" was one of the worst CSI episodes ever, but I have seen worse television. I'm just happy for the exposure SL is getting. We saw a population increase last time, let's hope it happens again.

Why should we have 503 all to ourselves, eh?

Yeah. but it's probably as realisic, if not more so than most of the so called "documentaries' about SL that have emerged.

The CSI episode is a fun TV-quality romp. I'm sure it's terrible if you try to compare it to "All About Eve" or something.

As Bradley suggests, I think the lack of realism is more a product of trying to tell an interesting story in less than an hour, rather than a calculated over-selling of SL. They could have spent 45 minutes of the episode trying to get Gary Sinese off of Orientation island, and figuring out how to put down his torch, but then everyone would complain that it was too boring.

Just have fun with it, and enjoy the increased traffic to your business. I'm happy for the heads up, Kelli, Thanks. I hope that it has the same effect on you British as it did when it aired here. I can only hope that Brits will feel compelled to log in, buy their Linden dollars, and go apartment-hunting as soon as they finish watching. I'll try to have some classy places ready. :-)

Oh, I know a lot of the real techniques that were cut out was due entirely to time crunch + entertainment value. I mean, why on earth would we WANT to sit through an hour long scene of a person staring into a microscope and nothing else? So, yeah.. it's just as realistic (condensed) as their portrayal of SL.

Only problem I've heard is the fact that a few newbs came in thinking that SL is just that easy to use and complained a lot when they found it's really hard to *ahem* get off the Segway.

Any rate, the episode didn't make me want to claw my eyes out and my mom finally stopped nagging at me to get the heck off the computer. It was.. eh.

Besides, no one had problems logging in and they didn't get eaten by the 503.. I wish that version of SL was here today!

Edit: 503 ate my response... again.

;) actually this csi episiode is about the best fictional portrayal of sl i've seen outside of youtubed machinema (dramatic licenses notwithstanding - could they hafta hold up to a harsher market than us sl 'experts'?? ;) lol!!:) yes, 'investigating the dropped pair of shoes', or 'why doesn't donjuan23 have nametags on all the time' do not stand up, or the wild 'gee where can i do -that??-' gladitorial ring scene, but i still giggle everytime i contemplate gary sinese chasing a lil' blue furry fox on a surfboard. :))

i thought it was 'well done' for a tie-in, although in the end it reeks of it (being a 'tie-in'). still, don't besmirch that it has attracted nice newbs to sl, i hear it's done well for what it was... :)

The show sucked, but TV sucks. It was very unrealistic, but TV is never about truth.

Nevertheless, I DO recommend that you create your next alt through the CSI portal. They offer some unique last names and n00b Avis with better skin and flexi hair & clothing.

the only CSI I can stand is the original (vegas)... miami seems lost in the twilight zone, and NY plays about like every other cop show (a genre I detest). If forensics interests you, stick with the original, if you prefer it as a quick plot tool, try miami, if you like cop shows with a hint of background, well you get the idea... and if you've ever worked in or with any of the related fields, just laugh alot. my friends that have, do. oh, and never expect realism (though vegas is probably closest), it is after all, entertainment for the masses.

No doubt this will bring in many new people trying SL from the UK so there should be some entertainment seeing their influx and how they are greeted by the scammers and griefers at the orientation areas.

You mean real cops don't have Computer monitors that are 6 feet across and a motion capture interface deal?

I thought it was just the lame cops where I live, where it takes 10 minutes for the computer to even access outstanding parking tickets.

No, your cops have that system, but it's running SL, which is slowing down their ticket searches.

Course they do, they also have the 3D holographic walkthrough too. CSI is an exact portayal of the real deal, glam, gorgeous, glitzy and real time too.

I wish!!! :D
