My SL account name doesn't fit with with an RP style I want to use (Orc). Is there any way to get an alternate name to show up in place of your actual name, or even show up in addition to it?
I could go ahead and give myself a custom title in a group, but there's got to be another way.. .

I think in some of the freebie give-away places, you can pick up a free FlipTitle attachment, which will allow you to place a custom title hovering over your head.
It doesn't change your AV's name...but you can add some cute little description (okay, perhaps not so cute in your situation) or whatever to go along with your name over your head.

At the moment, there's another thread a few threads down from you that goes further into details why you can't, /327/83/244406/1.html

The group title looks far better than a FlipTitle title, so do not dismiss it out of hand.
All my role titles are done using Group Titles. I bought just one group for L$100, making myself and an alt as members (but you could use a partner or friend), and then I just add roles with the titles I want, or edit an existing title if no longer needed.
Group titles are always in the same color as your avi name, and do not leap about as FlipTitle titles can.
But as alts cost nothing, why not also consider choosing a new name all over again? This is especially attractive if you want a name that reflects your role, but you need another for other occasions.
