From: Rhiannon Meredith I think I'm starting to agree with you, Kidd. I'm thinking I better take another two weeks or so to do due diligence before I plunk down my L$. Thanks, again In the meantime, explore lovely areas like Svarga, Wyrms and Avalon. Lot to see without needing a home.

and, rhiannon, if you feel homeless and need a place to unpack purchases or just hang out, you can always rent a house.
when i was first here i rented at nunki kai (now sagittaria) and then sea country (now hawaii kai). i highly recommmend the latter. i lived in hawaii kai for 6 months to be honest. a wonderful place with great management.
and since they are rented by-the-week, you can always move at a moment's notice if you do eventually find something you'd like to "own".

I would suggest that you join the New Citizens group. They have nightly classes on all kinds of topics from building, making textures and buying and owning land. I wouldn't buy until you sit though on the classes. There are many nuances that you need to consider so you don't end up with something that you don't want. Private sims have a lot of plusses but also some negatives that you need to be aware of. The covenant can be a tough thing for the overly creative types (like me!!!).
I once had a relatively well known private sim owner kick me off the sim because the house I built was "too mediterranean" to fit her vision of the land. Since then, I will personally never go back to a private sim.
Seriously, check out the New Citizens class. Once you are in the group, they announce them by IM and give teleports to the location.

Yah know what...I will give you a free two week rental on my sim so you have place to call home until you find a real one. IM me inworld if you want it. (would have sent this by private message but you don't have that option activated in your user CP).

Rhi,
I have a notecard I wrote up in-world about buying land for the first time. It's a bit out of date (I've not updated for a few months *blush*) but if you IM me inworld, or post here, I'll send you a copy next I'm in-world.
It's not much, jsut a few things I wish I had known at first.
Aside from that, I just say to go to the Support Page and then to the Knowledge Base and search for "Land". Lotsa good info there.

I would also add, don't let what anyone says about any of this scare you off from anything you want to do! I was probably way too "young" to be buying anything but I did it anyway! I've learned more in the last few weeks as a property owner than I would have learned in 6 months of taking my time and looking around and researching and and and. Again, it's not costing me any more than my premium membership each month so I'm not talking about shelling out USD $50 a month here. Just picking up a small piece of property to call your own.

I agree, as you already have the premium and the free tier for mainland 512m - though maybe not the money. Let's see if this is three Aug. 2007 in a row . . .

I will add you as a "Friend of Liome" so you can start rezzing stuff if you want and set as home. I will also send you a landmark to the plot. The name of the plot is called "Long Board". Turn property lines on in view to see what your small beachfront parcel's borders are.
