Des, why would one need to do this as an alt? I don't get that part. I don't have an alt, and I do this all the time.... but my understanding of what you're saying here is that it needs to be an alt, doing the acts of random kindness?

Well, I just didn't want people being fake~nice in front of everyone that has an obvious Caledon group affiliation.

It's sort of like when I wander around, everyone's generally pretty nice to me. Got to the point where I was shopping for some plants at Heart Gardens to spiff up an area, and a bunch of people I never met were all: "Hey it's Des!"

...but if I go anywhere as an alt, I literally get ignored, snubbed, and in a few cases I'll be stopped and just standing, and some tough looking male av will kind of shoulder bump me as they go by, just to push my avatar. Odd, this never happens on my regular account!

So yeah... alts, for sincerity.

Des' alt is the guy who gets sand kicked in his face. It isn't a complete analogy I guess. :)

Des proper would, I guess, be the guy after Charles Atlas' course: people give him space.

Classic comic book 'toon ad.

I've gotta go out now for a friend's house where I'm getting a pre-christmas curry and a friendly gesture.
See you soon allof you.

Suggestions on what to do, instead?

The example you mentioned is a good way to go. Every once in a random while I will go beyond the mentor role and help a new resident get started off completely. Give them some advice about SL, take them shopping at my fave places, purchase a good skin and set of clothes for them, give them some extra lindens (they have yet to realize 200 L is petty cash when you are a premium) and friend them.

Des's alt is a nattily dressed little rabbit. With a habit of peeking up women's skirts.

So due to lack of funds and my own inadequacies, a friendly ear and a dance or two, is really all I can offer newbies....

"A dance or two" is appreciated by some of us "mid-olbies" as well. ;)

One of our agents has been given some sion chicken eggs by a chicken farmer. That's good, isn't it?

Of course it is, especially if you like chicken for dinner and eggs for breakfast. Those things are kind of fun. We have a hen named "Extra Crispy", bought a Rooster for her and now have two peepers and four eggs that we don't want to hatch. Those Roosters can be very Randy...

LOL, hadn't thought of that angle. Reminds me of an expression of my Father's: Chickens are just drumsticks on the hoof.

After weeks of searching, unbeknownst to the people out in the world, Caledon Citizens found a winner.

She still hasn't been informed as of this writing, but she won by being supportive and caring to others in difficult personal moments ~ a light in the darkness, without asking anything in return.

She wins a home for a year in Oxbridge Village.

I don't want to possibly embarrass her here quite yet, but her initials are C.N. ~ if given permission, I shall post her full name.

Des

Shall I shoot myself?

Pep (That would make Rhonda happy at the very least.)

I'll rent you a crypt in New Toulouse if you promise to stay buried in it... I get to pick the epitaph though =P (yes they really do have cemetary plots for rent, and it's because of an errant comment I made to the creator)

Will there be a parade? Getting mentioned in a forum post doesn't seem like much of a reward for being the kindest person in SL.

Of course I'll promise that.

that gives me a wonderful idea.... we could run it like charity marathon... with people pledging a certain amount per minute you stayed put, while people came by and stuck in whatever saying they wanted, and took pictures.

fwiw I was thinking of something less obvious like "laid to rest by a grateful public"
