I think I broke the Mainland. Or discovered a wormhole. Or something. If you have a moment, please visit http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tussock/156/64/108 and see how the terrain looks (and behaves) in the immediate vicinity. If things seem, uh, "unexpected", please also see how View / Property Lines works, if at all. Actually, I was trying to manually smooth some terrain and ended up with something I can't explain. Nor describe. Maybe this is a regular occurrence, but in all my terraforming, I've never seen anything like this.

Before I had to log, I was trying to erect a "This way up" arrow, pointing at one face which, with one step, sends you hundreds of meters in the air. But I slid it over the "feature" and it disappeared from the Editor, probably hovering up there somewhere above whatever the sim thinks is ground level.
I also noticed that the Linden weeds along the railroad right-of-way are floating, presumably trying to fit themselves with the terrain. Such as it is.
I'll just leave it alone for now. Perhaps at some point LL will restart the sim and it'll all just go back to normal. Or not.

As I said when I was there, I was recently creating a sort of well-walked path by lowering the land a bit and smoothing it, and I ended up sinking up to my knees in one little bit, but nothing anywhere near like Qie's great toursit attraction. Maybe a recent server change is the cause.

What have you done to it now Qie?
I didn't have the falling for 5 minutes bit like Blot did, so I came back to find that particular ride. I found it and managed to get back up to ground level - except the ground isn't level now. It actually shoots up into the sky. I'm at the top of where the ground reaches to right now - 563m in the sky!!! And Magellan Linden isn't here.
What on earth were you using to smooth it??? LOL

Btw, Qie. Your 2-prim "This way up" sign is in the main column of the ground - at 361 meters

This sounds like a bug (feature?) that LL has known about for a few months. I had a friend come and demonstrate it to me on one of my islands. She had made a sinkhole on her mainland lot, where the normal ground level was usually about 80m, but she'd knocked a hole down to 0 so you could see the water. If you tried to go in the hole, you had a 50/50 chance of crashing.
If you try and smooth (or was it revert?) terrain with the 'force' slider all the way up, the terrain goes nuts and it corrupts the region's terrain file. LL can fix it with a region restart. It only affects certain viewers, but IMHO it is a problem on the server since it shouldn't be accepting 'force' packets for actions where force doesn't applly. There's a JIRA about it, but I don't remember the number.

I walked down the what looked to be an even slope that leads to the great spire. I sank into the ground so that just the top of my head showed. When I used cam to look at myself under the ground , I found that I was standing in a 4m-wide strip that had apparently been terraformed to minimum. It looked like 'normal' ground under there. Then I brought the camera up again, but the slope had disappeared. From all angles, the ground looked the way I found it when I cammed underneath the phantom slope.
It's interpolation gone rogue.
SO It's the North/South/Magnetic Inter-Polation of SL

-Atashi LOL. Now you might have started something I've just done it with a piece of my land, and I've beaten Qie's height by very long way. The top of my column is at 1418m. Maybe we should have a height competition The first effect of Qie's wasn't this though, although it is now.

It didn't need a sim restart to fix it. I think I used Flatten Land to get rid of it.

Yep it's a bug to do with revert land option, I tried to use it to put a nice sinkhole in one of my plots but it seems impossible to have a hole without having some peaks as well

I managed to get a tall column without spikes, but nowhere near as tall as with spikes. I've now got a hole (with spikes and tall coumn) where I can see the water at the bottom, and I can fly down to the bottom, but I land on land and not water. I'm standing at 1m now.

I'll try to steal a moment to sneak back in-world and fix the mess I made. Kids, don't try this at home! (Well, except you, Phil. )

From: Qie Niangao Kids, don't try this at home! (Well, except you, Phil. ) LOL. I seem to have created a tear in the fabric of the land - between the 2 parcels next to mine - not even touching mine. It happened when I was modifying my parcel and found that I modifed next door too (it's set to allow that). So I tried to put it back pretty much as it was, and there's a tear there now. Smoothing doesn't sew it up.

OH MY! Definitely don't try this at home!
I've been for a walk round the sim and it's pretty much changed all round - other people's land too. My feet walk where the land is supposed to be, but the visual land is above it in many places, to the extent of me being completely under it in some parts. There are also 'tears' in quite a few places. It's definitely not something to mess about with.
Correction: That was a viewer effect. After relogging the land in the sim is where is should be.
