I know you guys all love a bit of drama, so quick update.

I was contacted by my next-door neighbour, complaining about the signs and threatening to AR them as she thought they were mine. Land is on Sim Border, and next door they are PG (my land is Mature), and they really are not happy about a big sign saying "SEX" right on their doorstep. I explained the situation, and now we are allies united with a common goal!!!

Truthfully, I am now a bit fed up with looking at the signs, so went out and bought some big screens with a nice beachy screen on them. Big screen in front of one sign, and another on my neighbour's side so she can't see it, takes care of one sign. 4 smaller screens, surround the other sign. I would add these are transparent on all sides except the front, and phantom, and I have been careful to leave a gap around their land, so they cannot say that I am affecting their access.

This morning, I log on and get this.

14:48] ********: hello i am the creator of the advertising boxes you have choose to cover up. I would like to exspress my mind here and say that is the most childish thing i do believe i have ever seen in SL. myself and my brother own the 2 little pieces of land and are just trying to advertise our club and mall. You took the time to try and cover theese signs up. Thats ok we will survive. and i hope you can find it in yourself to take down your blinds so we can advertise.

So, I should take the screens down and have to endure their signs just so they can advertise? I don't think so. So, my reply is as follows.

"Many thanks for your IM. I am sorry you are upset at the screening of your signs, but perhaps you might consider that I am a little aggrieved also

When I purchased the surrounding land, the two 16 sq m plots, particularly the one in the middle, were well hidden by the previous owner, so much so that I didn’t see them. I hold my hands up, my fault entirely, I should have checked more carefully.

As the plots were already set for sale, I sent ******** a message, politely asking that if she were willing to sell the two plots I would be happy to purchase them from her. I would have also been willing to pay the L$250 per plot that they were advertised for, which is approximately twice their real value in the current market

Her reply indicated that she would sell me the plots, and asked for the co-ordinates, which I duly sent. I was, therefore, surprised when the following day the two signs went up. I have sent further IM’s to ******** regarding this, but unfortunately it seems she cannot afford me the courtesy of a reply to any of these, even if just to say she had decided not to sell.

I have also received complaints and the threat of AR’s regarding your signs, in particular from ******* next door, as they believed these were mine. As you are no doubt aware, the land is on the sim border, and the next door sim is PG. As such, for obvious reasons they do not want to have a big sign advertising SEX right on their doorstep.

As you say, you own the two pieces of land, and have every right to do with them what you wish. Likewise, I own land, and therefore also have the right to decide what I can or cannot see from my plot. I choose not to have to look at your signs, particularly as their placement means they are visible from every part of my land. You obviously want your club/mall to be a success, which is understandable, but it seems you have erected these signs without any consideration for the impact that these would have on the outlook, environment or the businesses run by your neighbours.

I am sorry if you think I am being childish, but I believe I have merely taken the only option open to me. Had I wished to be childish, I would simply have banned you from my land, thus making it difficult for you to access your plots. This would have been the easiest (and indeed the cheapest) option, but I have not done this.

Obviously we are at an impasse. I have no plans to remove the screens as I do not see why my outlook should be impaired simply so you can advertise your club/mall. I also assume you will not be removing your signs. Should you wish, I would be happy to sell you my entire 8,100 odd plot for the price that I paid for it, then I can go about my business elsewhere and you can advertise your club/mall as much as you wish. If you want to pursue this option, please get in touch.

Kind regards."

Now I think about it, I probably should have asked Trout to write something, He'd probably be much better at this than me. Anyway, I log on this morning, to find the sign in the middle has been raised up above the level of the screens, so it sticks out over the top. Now who's being childish??

I will keep you posted.
