Yes, go ahead, look at my thread. Filled with trolling and flames. Stupid newbie, stupid newbie. Should have waited at least a month to ask that question about newbie specials for those under a month. Of course then the question would be asked too late, but hey, at least I wouldn't have trolled by asking it so quickly.

if you actually paid some attention to some troll baiting threads, you`d get the clue

also, if you`d have read anything said in this thread instead of just replying to a topic name, you`d have seen that is was a pure joke as we have had all other bs allready with some of those "newbie" alts and stupid nonsense polls

some people sure have no trace of humor or sarcasm... read befor posting sheesh

I did read before posting. Also looked at the poll choices. My response to your response to my response to your thread is either 1) I do not see the humor; 2) you do not see the humor.

Oh, and I only noticed 1 troll baiting thread. I think the first post in that particular thread even says something about baiting trolls, or was in a later post by that poster.

Of course, "joke" threads like this are part of the problem, not part of the "solution."

Thanks for filling up the forum and pushing out the actual question threads. Good day.

I read somewhere that Aki Linden is closing threads .. but largely from other comments I got this implication. Of course, I use the term loosely ... very loosely ... and it's not a situation I relish.

Aki Linden is not doing much of anything in this particular forum. Out of all the garbage threads that need to be locked, only one has been locked in the past 2+ weeks. No locking, no moving, nothing. I don't know where you heard that. Maybe it was in another forum, like Scripting Tips.

Ok, went through 10 pages with it set to maximum display: this thread, the "Can't we all just get along", "nasty people", "who knows?", "should we?", "comments out of hand", "Have you ever killed anyone in SL?", "Did you know that SL exercise keeps you slim and fit in ‘RL’? True!", "I HAVE IT! The new name of the next sim!", "Kool T shirts for 1L", and "Moderator? Well..you tell me!" seem to almost fit what you are saying. Funny thing, I am fairly certain most if not all are not started by new people.

Maybe you need to go and re-read your entire first thread, I just did. The only post I saw that was not so helpful was the first reply which was then followed by a lot of posts thanking you for the information and adding to it as well. Also people saying it was a good thread, not stupid newbie stupid newbie. On the contrary, it was a lot of encouragement. :)

You have also participated in at least one thread that one might not see as 'actual question threads' so, those in glass houses? No one is perfect, sometimes you SHOULD just post in the random fun thread, this is SL...a place to have fun even on the forums. The questions get answered, its just not always the answer they want to hear lol

I have always enjoyed the forums, and I have been here for a couple of years now (as everyone is noting, join dates mean nothing in this game anymore, you never can tell). In the midst of playful threads are those actual question threads getting answered. Granted, its not always pretty, but you are bound to get conflicts with this many people with so many varied views on things. It happens. I have seen a lot of newbies, yourself included, that got a positive response even despite one or two negative. Not everyone has to be positive, wish it wasnt the case but ya cant change that one :)

Yes, most of the trolling posts are going to BE started by 'new' people because people will go and start new accounts just to come in and post like that. Silly, isnt it??! They want to get their point across without having their regular name out there I suppose. *shrugs*

For the poll...I voted the last option! Cuz I didnt see any chocolate cream pie and I am big on chocolate lately, my thighs hate me!! :p

i guess with your uber post count and years of expirience here you are what we have prayed for, the NEW MOD!!!!

you have read nothing, wait and see how much is posted with alts while you read here daily

again, you lack any sense of humor and sarcasm...

By my count 17 of the 25 top threads are legit questions or comment on the state of the SL world. Several others are relevant discussions.

We haven't had any major flame wars or much trolling. So yeah, I would say we are pretty self moderating. Adults tend to be. Of course we do have the "DOOM" shouters, I guess they aren't happy without someone watching over them.

I half-posted that in jest ;) Some people around here are extremely successful at self-moderation. Others aren't. Its just the nature of the beast.

This forum *is* drifting away from its original stated purpose. Each week, it seems to drift a little farther. Is that cause for doom? Not neccesarily. As long as newbies aren't afraid to come here & post their questions, we're in good shape as far as I'm concerned. :)

I really hope newbies arent afraid to come in and post their questions, and I dont think the majority will be for one simple reason. They dont read the forum before they post! lol This is why we have a lot of repeated questions. Its funny, for as long as I have been in SL, I still learn things daily. Mainly from the forums! Yanno, from all you nasty rude people that cant seem to get along :p

I know I post the same as I ever did. A lot I think are the same.

Course that may or may not be a good thing. But who the Mod is (or no Mod) hasn't changed anything for me.

I think one big obstacle is that Posts that are not Resident Questions are not being moved pr not being locked, thus making the forum seem even more General Discussion.

But as long as LL allows people to post there is going to be some sort of General Discussion on these boards, because people in general don't like being told they cant speak their minds.

Did you read what I wrote? I didn't see any of the "problem" threads started by newbies. All were started by those with lots of experience.

Post count? I deleted about 100 posts to get back down to two when the threads started to depress me.

There are 557 pages of threads on max settings. I have read a good many of these threads. Have you?

Now, do you "wanna make out?" /327/18/138319/1.html

There shouldnt be a limit.

This thread appears to be in response to a couple of people recently who have Alt trolling.

I think that is not a good reason to limit new people from the forums. Every regular poster here at one point was new to the SL forums. That is a good thing.

Besides the Alt trolls have been obvious. The whole claim of massive knowledge of the SL forums while having just arrived is silly.

Yes, that was my point :) The thread seemed to imply that newbies should wait a month before posting, and I humorously noted my own thread, which didn't seem to have much in the way of problems. Then later noted all the "problem" threads started by oldies.

I have no problem with random fun. It was the implication that it is the newbies that are the problem.

I am somewhat afraid to post in the forums, and didn't post that first thread until Chris pushed me into it. And I had read a lot of the threads before I said anything in any thread.

I don't have massive knowledge of the SL Forums. I've just read a lot of the threads. Read many of them before I ever posted a single message.

I have no idea how to spot an alt.

I wasn't refering to you Kitten.

I was referring to a few people recently who claimed that the forums "are like this" when they've only been here less than 2 weeks by their reg dates.

The way the framed their posts deliberately showed a familiarity with the forums and at the same time attacked regular posters.

Something someone who took the time to read Older threads going back a while wouldn't likely have done.

I have it figured out. They aren't trolling alts per se. They are Linden ringers, maybe Dan himself, a fifth column sent in to test our defenses, to see if we can moderate ourselves, in preparation for a possible forum demolition. Resist People. Resist.

Perhaps the forum access policy should be that Linden staff should only communicate through the forums, and only Linden staff should be able to post in the forum.

This would mean all their intra-office communication formerly done via phone, IRC, email, etc. would all take place here. Even the Love Machine would become the "Love Machine Forum".

We wouldn't have any say in the forum contents but at least we might have a good idea of how the company works.

Supposedly Linden Lab values transparency. What could be more transparent than having all the company's non-security-critical communication conducted in these forums?

Oh yes, you're right, the forums aren't Googleable (or Yahooable or AltaVisaable), so that's not quite as transparent as it could be. So open read access to all and let them be crawled by searchbots.

P.S. All existing written records that aren't security-critical would be added to archived forums.
