From: Bree Giffen I love how the general attitude of the board is 'too bad we can't do anything and the Lindens won't do anything just let it be a lesson'. I have half a mind to try scamming people left and right and getting away with it!!! It seems that thieves and crooks pretty much run rampant without any kind of punishment. Oh sure... you can name them on a third party site... yeah and that doesn't help the thousands of new people who don't even know those sites exist. There will be suckers born every minute. I hear a whole bunch of them are coming in for the CSI promo. Time to start ripping them off without any fear of retribution. Yeah we'll teach them a lesson. What's all that CSI knowledge going to do you? You know who ripped you off.. and there's no justice. yep.. LL refuses to get involved in disputes between residents, all money exchanges are "Gifts." Even when the dispute is that one resident is a thieving skum.

Ungh! It just sucks that people can pull crap like that and nothing can really be done except, well, not to deal with that person anymore.
I kind of wish there was a place where one COULD 'name names'--the good as well as the bad--so people would have an idea who can be trusted and who should be avoided in SL. Kinda like eBay feedback or something. It'd be hard to maintain, though, because then you'd have to deal with the possibility of somebody 'sliming' their competition's reputation out of spite.
Failing that, I guess the best thing to do is to ask around. The place where our shop used to be (we ended up leaving before the store properly opened) we picked up through a friend of ours who was moving her shop. The landlord was completely fair and didn't rip us off--we just decided to move to a cheaper place where we knew people better and had a little more say over our surroundings.
It's really best to deal with people who can be vouched for by others. There are way too many fly-by-night operators in SL to consider doing otherwise.

From: Cee Edman I believe items will coalesce if there are ten or more. This may be related to the business of not displaying textures and rezzed items "coming too fast", etc.. which is also triggered by ten items in less than ten seconds. Knew that. I was speaking ofa corrilation on to what name of what object the system uses when auto-returning triggers coalescing. From: Cee Edman I Set the filter on your "recent" folder to 1 or 2 days. The setting just doesn't persist through a log-off/log-on. Yes, and that's the PITA. Worked much better when it reset every login. At least a persistant option of how long we want to keep the update on the "Recent" folder would be nice. Instead, it jsut enver empties. The 1-2 day settting only looks at ones in that time frame. It doesn't reset the rest. ~Jessy

From: Desmond Shang I smell more to the story, though. With tier looming large over most sim owners, good tenants are hard to find for most. Is the stolen 3 weeks of tier worth losing a good tenant? This seems to add new dimension to the word 'foolish' - why would a sim owner shoot themselves in the foot like that? Odd. Just... odd. Not odd at all in fact it happens alot I have posted about this several times.. Sounds like the rental scaming is still alive and going strong in SL.. sigh

It sucks, but LL does not have the staff to even keep the Grid up and running, let alone the people to go around policing folks. Look at the Ginko mess. This is not a couple of dollars we are talking about. It's a real criminal act of huge monetary proportions that LL did not intervene in. Avatar beware! We are are on our own.

From: Brodsky Zapedzki actually, you have to be more patient: normally it takes 6 months or so.
but on the positive side it means you can keep on making deposits for a while. Not if you deposit the last day before it runs out.

From: Colette Meiji yep..

Even when the dispute is that one resident is a thieving skum. I dislike it, but how can the Lindens tell who's a liar in each without taking up an inordinate amount of time? I don't blame them for staying out of small disputes, but the Ginko affair (and the subsequent failure of other banks) is really shameful, and calls for a ban on that activity.

LL needs to learn from Blizzard. (in more ways then one) If someone rips you off in World of Warcraft, Blizzard will go after them with brute force. even petty rip offs like this one....and the Warcraft Gold isn't even "real." Oh BTW Warcraft actually works (for the most part)--even if it does make you insane after a while, killing monsters for so long.

Well for rental scams - they could add tools to the land control to allow actual rents which would forbid situations as described by the OP without an automatic refund. ---------------- For bank/financial scams - I do not see why unregulated banking/investment funds are even allowed. A lawyer or broker would know better - but if it were US$ instead of L$ would such things even be LEGAL? Besides the fact that a dog eat dog scam "banking" system is as much of a black eye as Age-Play, so I do not see why it is still around after Ginko and the other banks failed.
