Without getting into an argument about voice vs non-voice, I'd love to hear from you all about all the places you know, especially social places and clubs that have voice turned off.

Without making a list, but it seems that most turn voice off during events to cut down on distractions and voice spam.

Dark Bliss Club has it turned off.
I believe Fallen has it turned off.
RGB Club.
Heck, I refuse to DJ in a club that has voice enabled. Why bother having a DJ if people just keep the music turned off so they can talk on voice?

The Duchess comes to mind right off, but that is beacuse one of the few times I was on voice we went there and the voice stopped. Any place that plays live music either has it turned off or should have it turned off.

The Kasbah, which seems to have become really hot for live acts. I don't have the SLURL off-hand, unfortunately.

The Jittery Junco at Halle is non-voice, but has been, I've noticed, a bit slow of late. Not sure why.

Its not a lively spot though. At the moments its still a new experiment and I have yet to take active steps to drive up traffic to it. But I think it makes for a charming environment to sit and relax with a friend or two.

I keep it off at our venue because it is very hard to track griefing and abuse in voice, which I have had in the past. Everything from sexism, to racism, to death threats.

This was a long time ago, and has not been a problem since I turned voice off, even though my traffic has more than tippled since the days we had voice chat enabled.

Oops, answered in the previous thread... ah, well, I'll repeat it here:

I do not *know* if these places have voice turned off, but I have never noticed it being used at any of them, and HAVE found real non-bot people talking text chat at all of them:

Club Melodi is a PG dance club with events from 11am-5pm SL. Lots of text chat, on all kinds of topics. (I host there, in the interest of full disclosure.)

Lounge of Dreams is a male revue on Zindra, open 6-10pm. I've found the folks there friendly and welcoming to all genders and species, though of course you will have to be account verified to go there.

Demented Souls is a dance club/hangout with a few regular events (I am SO there Saturdays at 2 for MadBonds, and when I can, I hit up the costume event Sunday at 1. They have trivia events Tuesdays and Thursdays, too, but I can't ever seem to get there at the right times.)

Madhu's Cafe serves up world music. Weekly scheduled event is Monday from 6-9pm-ish, and there are occasional weekend morning events.

The Bubblegum Music Factory is a PG club where I have found some text conversation, though not as much as at the other locations.

I'm not in-world to find the name of the club where Sredni Eel DJs, but based on threads here I am almost positive you will not find voice turned on there. The night I went, I was overtired and only stayed a little while, but everyone was very friendly and I'd definitely go back if I weren't (trying to) keep earlier hours. (ETA: I see that he posted it already. Coolness.)

Hm... that should serve as a starting point, at least.

ETA: The reason I can't confirm whether or not voice is used at any of these venues is that I have it turned off and refuse to turn it on. I can confirm that you will not feel like an outsider at any of these places for having voice turned off.

The Forum Hangout (Allana) has Voice enabled. However, on the rare occasions when things have been quiet and I turn it on curiously, I've never heard anyone speak.

I think it is handy to have voice on at the hangout. I've helped a couple of newbies configure it there, and I'm not there much

*stops speculating on what configuring Ray might possibly entail*

*cough* sure! I'm not inworld much nowadays, but if you were to FRIEND ME! >.< we might have a chance to meet and get you set up. Alternatively, if you were to hoot into Cartel chat anyone could help; Mal met me at the hangout to do exactly that, way back when!

The first thing to do is to be sure the mic on your PC is set up right, using Skype or even Microsoft's silly "Sound Recorder" accessory. The second thing is to find every volume control you have for the mic and crank it up high - for some reason SL Voice volume preset is very low.
