What is Zindra exactly please?

Hello, I have been looking up information on Zindra for a while now and still have not found the answers that I hope to get. I have checked the Linden blogs, the forums, and even personal blogs. I just want to know how exactly Zindra relates to the continent that I am on now. I do know a few things about it but not everything.

I know:

1) that Zindra is an adult continent, and I know what 'adult' means.

2) that verification will be required, etc. etc. etc.

I don't know:

1) what a 'continent' is as the word is used here.

2) how transportation works between the mainland and Zindra.

3) what the effects on the old continent are, for instance, whether adult content will be banned (and for instance whether this explains population drops in adult areas), and whether this will cut off Zindra-people from the mainland, its stores and so forth.

4) how residents feel, what their predictions are, how the population on both sides (Zindra and the main continent) is looking, and for instance why the old haunts like Free Sex Empire, Free Sex Land, Neva Naughty, etc. are still around, but roughly 75% emptier than they were 10 months ago, and whether most sex places plan to move or just crumble or whatever they will do. Heck I don't even know if these places are duplicated on both continents or not.

While it may be unfair to expect a short and direct summary from Linden Labs like, '... will happen, in turn causing ...' I had not played Second Life in many months when I heard about this and found myself out of the loop when I finally did. I will be very grateful if someone can help me.

In SL a continent is a group of sims that are bordering eachother so you can walk or drive or fly from one to another


the same as it works between other continents and private sims, yes there is more then one continent in SL


on the current mainland continents public adult content will indeed be banned, in private homes and unadvertised hangouts it is still alowed as long as it is not outside, but it does not cut off anyone from the current mainland and anyone that is either ageverified or has a payment info on file can go to the new zindra continent without problem.

all these public sex places will have to move or if they are on a private sim the sim will have to be flagged as adult, because a lot of these free sex places where used by people playing for free there will be a drop in the people comming there but the people that do come there will more likely buy things from the vendors and visit the advertised places so the income for these places will not be effected to much.

Those places are less busy? Might be worth a look again if they're no longer lagfests!

But yes, they will have to move or flag depending on if they're mainland or private sims, as mentioned. It will mean the only people that can get there are those who have passed whatever ID/ Age check hoops LL have in place (the whole notion of verification is a joke to me, and one that is less funny as *everyone* on SL should be over 18, yet only those who want to pixel perv have to "prove" it).

How it will effect these places I don't know, having a continent of shops and clubs isn't going to help the smaller places or ones without some niche market to appeal to. I suspect some of the adult content providers who have been in support of the new policy are betting on being the ones left standing as others fail. And it wouldn't surprise me if LL had planned a level of failure as they seem begrudgingly tolerant of the sex industry purely because it brings them money. As soon as these countless millions, corporations and education establishments who allegedy won't join because they're afraid of tripping over a nudey animation or graphic line or two of text sign up, I can see sex being banished entirely - LL are following the money, or at least where they think the money is.

I can see Zindra making the already freeze frame places like Neva into works of still (second) life as there's plenty of people who want that kind of place, and putting them all in one space isn't going to help things run smoothly one iota.

I guess the Linden blog that I read was more for business owners than residents and that was what confused me. It seems that residents wanting to use adult content only need to verify themselves, while businessmen are the ones having to do the harder stuff that was mentioned.

But I am still curious about the population drops, as there are definitely far fewer people in the adult areas than I remember. As far as I can tell, verification is not required for any of these places yet, as my unverified characters can still use them just fine. So although there is definitely a population drop maybe that is completely unrelated to Zindra. Still, I am surprised, as I had taken equally long breaks from SL before (about 10 months at a time) and never seen such a population drop as now. I guess I just automatically linked the population drop to Zindra, but it's sad to hear that I was wrong--the population has just plain dropped. When verification becomes mandatory then it will drop even more.

I'm assuming traffic on the Mainland has dropped or will drop. I’ve been on Zindra for just over 2 weeks now and my traffic is getting back to normal. On the mainland I averaged between 2K to 4K per day with around 11/12 visitors per day and yesterday I broke 2K for the first time on my new adult land with 9 visitors. It will take time to reestablish traffic (especially since I made a new group for the new land) but I’d think that as Zindra land owners do it will deplete over all old mature mainland traffic. Hope that helps.

Inside this, you will find a link to an informative map over the continents.

You can also go to www.slurl.com and zoom out as much as possible - but then there are no names. And Zindra is located far east (right) on the maps at slurl; in fact Zindra is located so far east, that it at first appears as you are moving beyond 'end of world' - the preview map is all white

this is all very well - but with all the info youd think continent names might be found on the map, or in the 'my land' or 'about land' menus.....

They dont give much info about continents as such, but its easy to tell where they are and where you are by looking at the map, either in game, or the SLurl map.

Confusingly as usual, Lindens named the entire adult continent Zindra, and then also named a water region just east of Arapaima infohub Zindra. So we have the Zindra region located on the Zindra continent

Public/advertised adult content will be banned on mainland, yes. It will be ok to do those things in a private home on Mature land, but only if it is in private and not advertised or 'commercial' i.e. to bring people into your place to make money off them. It was never ok to do those things on PG land, at all.

It will stop some people going to Zindra but it will not stop "Zindra people" from going back and forth wherever they wish. They will not be restricted to staying on Zindra, only their public activities/sales.



I wonder that too but I can only guess the move to Zindra has not been finalised, since so many tickets (land exchanges) are still being processed and will be for some time. Once that door clangs shut, though, places like that should be gone from mainland.

They are not because "continents" are a human perceived construct. The software runs on regions, which have to have names so the grid can identify them for backup and loading. Regions have grid coordinates, but a mainland vs a group of separate islands is just happenstance of grid coordinates. Its not anything the software can identify.

We humans percieve a continent as a large region of land, but the software does not know about land vs water regions, that's just part of the terrain file. So how would it know to count a water region in the middle of a continent (which at least the old north continent has a lot of)?

Above all, the Linden staff are software geeks, so if it is something relevant in the software, it tends to show up. But the human side of things, they are not good with.

A continent is a land mass. There are several of them, from Sansara and the Heterocera Atoll to Gaeta and Zindra.



Point of order: the Zindra continent is mainland. All eight (or nine, if you count Gaeta twice) continents are considered mainland, as opposted to private estates.

With Zindra (and some other continent crossings), you need to teleport from one to the other. Some (Sansara and the Heterocera Atoll, Nautilus/Corsica/Satori) are connected.

No, but they could make it something they can identify, making the continent name a region setting that is displayed by the client. I would think the land barons would be interested in that, too.

The simple way is to make every continent it's own estate then you can see it in the about land tool.
