Just for input really, I buy almost everything but clothes from SL Exchange.

I have just bought my new house there and most of my furniutre too. (I will take a look at your store though Dekka:)

I always search through the newly added items on SL Exchange. One point - make sure the SLURL works, this has stopped me from visiting some places because I just could not get the tp to work.

people looking for 'sex' furniture are not going to be interested in what youre selling.
it is also spamming the search with irrelevant keywords and brings bad karma.

Yes that's correct :) Well it's honest there is 'No Sex' but I'm doing these people who search for Sex a favour, what they really want is to spend Lindens and when they arrive at my place they also realise that buying furniture is nearly as good as Sex and it lasts longer, "Dekka Raymakers Furniture is for Life, not just for Bonking"

OK guys, you regulars are really uptight, would it be acceptable if I put 'I Like Sex'?

or "my furniture is better than sex" ?

word it however you wish, but you will not gain the respect of the people that you lure into your shop looking for the nonexistent merchandise. you will waste their time and they will remember that in the future.

It is a good idea to have a central point in SL that never changes for your landmarks or teleport station. Then when customers come across a 1 year old landmark or ad, they dont give up trying to find the location

I will say that if I TP to a store because their keywords came up as having what I was looking for..and I get there and they haven't.. I NEVER go back... I hate that so much! When SL is laggy and life inworld is like sticky treacle the last thing I need is to be tp'ing everywhere on a wild goose chase!

Just my thoughts :)

OK ok, I'll come clean I don't have and never have had in any descriptions in any form what-so-ever the word 'sex' or any words that don't honestly describe what people will find on my site.

I guess my humour is too dry for some. :P

There are a handful of designers out there willing, able, and capable. I'd search around for graphic designers, marketing agencies, ect.

A few things you should keep in mind--you may not be selling any of your products because a) the market is saturated with it already, b) the market is niche, c) your keyword set-up isn't strong, or d) like you mentioned, your marketing is a little weak.

I'd advise you look at the competition. See what they are doing. Or, look at other random businesses and see what they are doing in terms of classifieds, ads, groups, etc.

If you need help, IM me inworld after 6pm SLT, and I can help you out, have a look at your product, and either give advice, or discuss working on your dilemma myself.

Good luck.

Keyword abuse is exasperating. As mentioned above, I too refuse to go back to a place that falsely advertises. It seems like everyone adds "goth, sex, neko" to their keywords and while in some cases it is appropriate, most of the time it's so wrong. LOL

Word of mouth is really the best advertising and that takes time to develop. But certainly not impossible. Even on the forums, ask for people's favourite xyz type of item and everyone will chime in with their favourites.

Understood, and I agree...gaming the system. Honestly, I don't think a lot of businesses play 'fair', but that's just how it goes...I personally disagree with 'foul play', but it's just something we must expect...especially from the 'seedy underbelly of society (j/k).

Look...if I sell mainly Oriental Rugs...using "Oriental, Oriental Rug, Rug, Rugs, Tapestry, Interior Design' is all I need to bring someone to my shop. There is no need to bamboozle someone into coming to your rug shop when they are looking for sex beds. Keywords are very important, I use them all the time in my classifieds, and I use them all the time in my searches. And if I want an Oriental Rug, I'm not going to be fooled by a company at the top of the classified list that is clearly all about sex and BDSM.

And if I was selling Oriental Rugs...I'd put ORIENTAL RUGS on the classified list...right up front, straight forward...if someone wants an Oriental Rug...by golly that will bring them there.

And if [you] choose to sell a product that has already saturated the market, that's your fault...[you] have to put up with the competitors, and you have to devise ways to best your rivals. Adding COCK to your keywords isn't going to sell you any more Oriental Rugs...sure it may sell you one by fluke...but setting up proper marketing and a unique item will do you much more service.

Well...whew. That was fun.

Maybe a newbie will think that 'oriental rug' is slang for 'ginormous cock' in SL o.o
