This is for all who have massive bloated inventories - mostly full of clothing. How do you organize your folders? How do you find things quickly? Are you happy with the way you do it? Mine is a mess. Well, it's structured, but when I'm looking for some sort of look or inspiration, it's hopeless. I have things in my inventory I've never worn (beyond trying on as soon as bought). I'm looking for suggestions.

Things I use a lot are at the top level
Clothing -Complete Outfits --(Business, Casual, Clubbing, Costumes, Dancing, Gowns & Dresses - Dresses break down into casual and party) -Lingerie -Random Pieces --Jackets --Tops --Pants --Skirts Accessories -(hair accessories, etc.) Jewelry -Complete Sets, divided up by metals/themes -Pieces (Earrings, necklaces, etc.) Shoes -(heels, boots, etc.) Sunglasses
Yes, I'm a bit of a folder nazi.

Well......I have sort of a system...... The first thing I did was organize folders in catagories and name them like so: A.clothes A.skins A.hairstyles and so on....so my A. folders are always on top.....then for clothes I have them mostly organized in folders according to maker...B@R....Armidi..... Canimal..... beyond that I have a few 'pants' and 'tops' folders. But...it gets away from me so fast that often times i just put new things in the A.clothes folder and hope i can remember what each piece is 3 months from now.

I keep hair and skin in the Body Parts folder. I don't consider them to be clothing.

Within each folder, I rename items where possible, putting the primary color first, then a description, then the maker. "Red shiny pumps - Tesla" If I have a fatpack with several colors, they will all go in one folder, "Collection - leather pants - SLink".
I need to do some more subdividing in big folders like "earrings", into "casual" and "formal".
I save operating instruction notecards, delete "Thank you" notecards, and move landmarks from store boxes to my Landmarks folder.
With items like boots, that have many parts (some of which I maybe never wear because they're the wrong size), I put the parts I *do* wear into a "WearMe" folder

My inventory is currently running around 55k (with probably 75-80% of that being clothing/wearable items) so organization is critical, though I do admit to still having many thousands in the "sort/file" folders. -Clothing/Jewelry/Shoes/Hair --Clothing ---Pant/Skirt Combos (for the outfits that come with pants and skirts, but the tops are no-copy, so I cannot create multiple individual outfit folders) -----New --------(individual outfit folders) -----(all other individual outfit folders) ---Lingerie -----Stockings -------White -------Black -------(all other colors) -----New --------(individual outfit folders) -----Favorites --------(individual outfit folders) -----Themed/Holiday --------(individual outfit folders) -----(all other individual outfit folders) ---Dresses ------Short/Long Combos (short and long skirts with no-copy tops) --------New --------(individual outfit folders) ------Short --------Casual / Everyday ----------New ----------(individual outfit folders) --------Dressy/Party ----------New ----------(individual outfit folders) --------Very Short/Sexy (not necessarily appropriate in all areas) ----------New ----------(individual outfit folders) ------Long --------Casualwear ----------New ----------(individual outfit folders) --------Formal / Ballgowns ----------New ----------(individual outfit folders) --------Medieval / Victorian / Themed ----------New ----------(individual outfit folders) ---Pant Outfits -----Dressy --------(individual outfit folders) -----Casual --------(individual outfit folders) ---Misc Items -----(individual items) ---Holiday -----4th of July --------(individual outfit folders) --------(individual items) -----St. Patrick's Day --------(individual outfit folders) --------(individual items) -----Christmas --------(individual outfit folders) --------(individual items) -----Other --------(individual outfit folders) --------(individua items) ---Accessories -----Hats/Scarves -----Gloves -----Coats/Jackets --Jewelry ---Manicures/Pedicures ---Sets ---Necklaces ---Earrings ---Bracelets/Watches ---Anklets ---Hair Decorations --Shoes ---J's Prim Toes -----(individual shoe folders) ---Pumps -----(individual shoe folders) ---Slingbacks -----(individual shoe folders) ---Slip in Heels -----(individual shoe folders) ---Boots -----(individual shoe folders) ---Loafers/Sneakers -----(individual shoe folders) ---Sandals --Hair ---Era / Cultural -----Era Styles -----Asian -----African ---Long -----New -----Favorites -----(individual hairs) ---Updos -----New -----Favorites -----(individual hairs) ---Shoulder Length -----New -----Favorites -----(individual hairs) ---Short -----New -----Favorites -----(individual hairs)

Using the Clothing folder as an example:
Category (Bottoms, Tops, Outfits) Subcategory (Pants, Skirts, Shorts) Sub-subcategory (Trousers, Jeans, Capris) Color (Blue, Black, White) Creator (if two or more by the same)
The sub-subcategory isn't always necessary, and most levels have an 'Other' option for items that don't fit elsewhere.

I used to be as organized as the women above me, but lost hope about 3 months ago. Now I rely heavily on the "Recent" tab and my transaction records, and occasionally, my memory will fire up and help me out using search.

Here is a shot of my Clothes folder. There are some sub folders but this is the main bit here. All the things shown not in one of the categories are waiting to be sorted, I'm not sure what do with yet like the scarf Claire sent everyone or that I have not really had a chance to try on yet to see if I want to keep. grrr ... the photo is not showing up. ok ... fixed now 3rd time's a charm

I optimize for searchability, since I have 20K something in my inventory. I sort each category of clothing/body parts differently based on their primary characteristics.
To make searcing easier (in other words, to vastly narrow down the number of extra results in search), I include the full or partial name of the previous category in the subcategory. Doing so makes multi-window inventory organizing super easy (don't have to do any scrolling looking for the right folder). For example, here's how I sort hair:
Body Parts [top level] - Body Parts Hair [type of body part] -- Hair Pigtails [style] --- Pigtails Black [color... I sort by black, red, and assorted] ---- Black Lost [designer] ----- Lost Uncontrollable [specific style]
So, if I buy some new pigtails, to sort, I just create a new inventory window and search for 'Hair Pigtails'. Only one result will pop up, so all I have to do is select the found folder then clear the filter, and I can then expand the folder and drag the new hair into its proper place.
I think my shoes category is something like, Clothing - Clothing Shoes -- Shoes Boots [type] --- Boots Knee-height [style] ---- Knee-height Black [color] ---- Black <Designer Name> [designer] ----- <Designer Name> <Model Name> [model]

mine are sort of.. when I manage to sort...
favorites then by designer name
needs to be sorted then by designer name
others transferable by designer name
non transfer designer name
the transfer eventually get set out in the pawn shop to sell
the no transfer get dated and deleted after a few months of never being used (if I use something I redate the folder)
as for finding stuff, just get used to it
(clothing is one, skins is another, footwear is another, etc)
(I keep my own creations in a separate place and find myself wearing my own more often than not)

Inspired by the attention to detail and commitment to finding the right outfit for each and every occasion shown by the girlies in this thread I have decided to establish similarly themed folders for my clothing as follows: Outfits For - Wasting my time dancing to slow songs and listening to stories of drama - Hanging around pick-up joints avoiding escorts and gold-diggers - Impressing at (nearly naked) body fascist beach barbeques - Looking inconspicuous at trivia contests - Appearing more aged than I am at "Older Men Rock" get togethers - Looking smart when meeting prospective in-laws - Disreputably leaning on the bar with a hangover - Lounging around the Cartel Hangout annoying people who have muted me - Playing golf (to wear when I am late for a date I don't really want) - Making n00b men envious - Pretending to be a submissive and pissing off dommes who expect me to obey - Attending bad taste parties (Air hostess uniform) Pep (That just about covers everything I think, but please feel free to offer further suggestions)
