So i lurk a lot and probably moreso then usual these past few months and I'm about to say somethign that shocks even me... I have been playing a few games here and there and I even started playing this one game fresh out of the box with a brand new game smell recently. I logged in and there was not much hussle and not much bussle.. I waited... still no hussle or bussle.. I made some thingies and killed some characters etc and then I stopped and stood and thought... This is what popped into my head out of the blue and i almost passed out when this thought his me square in my grey matter. Here was my thought that I done went and thunk "you know something ? SEcond life is more popular than any of these games especially this one" (i was farting with the brand new multiplayer I got out of the box) I stopped I realized that I had just said I like second life better then a popular mmorpg that is brand new with new technology and super duper graphics engines that could and far far less bugs.. but it lacked something.. PEOPLE The game was a deserted ghost town in fact most of the games I fart with are but when I go to SL I can find places packed with people and I have tons of people to talk to and more things to do then anywhere else.. So umm I never thought I would do this but this is a fanboi thread believe it or not SL is in fact good stuff even if you just use it for a game that was my thought as i picked myself up off the floor this second thought hit me that I should probably post about the first thought and so here I am as shocked that I had that thought as anyone else would be while lagging through the game which has not scaled well. Oh yeah there was lag there too..by the way but nothing compared to sl (i also had that thought awhile back nearer the beginning of playing this newly released game while everyone else was complaining about the lag i was saying "what lag?" Then a few weeks later I realized that this place is better.. okay i'm done thinking.. Me and thinking are dangerous and should be avoided at all costs!

I totally concur Wilhelm! (I think that means agree cuz i heard em say that on some tv show) In Secondlife no matter how bad the lag or what the current technical glitcheness is, what keeps bringing me back is the people. I have made some great friends here. I been around the block a few times and there is nothing that comes close to comparing to this. I was totally hooked in a few short days. In fact I have long said that one should be given a surgeons generals warning that this is very addictive along with the TOS.

Yes, I notice this too.
I used to LOVE playing the original Medal Of Honor. Re-Installed, went online...... nothing. Found 1 server with people.
Crysis! Great Game, Jaw-dropping graphics, and LAG as bad or worse than SL... which really sucks in FPS.
Played some of the "Free" MMO's.... nice graphics, lots of lag, and HEY! If you dedicate countless wasted hours & days, you might create something.... eventually. Dont forget the gold farmers, the rip-off sellers, and people constantly yelling in chat "LFG!! L56 Swordsman+10 WP 200Gold to PL ME!!!" That is IF you can understand them or read what they're typing!!
Oddly enough, in SL I'll add anyone to my friend's list. In these MMO's.... not a chance.

i have never been one for mmorpgs - too much fighting and too many quests. but i agree. It is the people that make SL for me. I could easily go on the Sims to build etc. But it isnt the same. I doubt I would still be here at all if it werent for the lovely (and maybe not quite so lovely) peoples in the forum. Especially those at the hangout. I am a people person - well...most of the time lol. Hope you enjoyed your thinking sesh Wilhelm. Sounds like you thunk up some good thinkings. Even if you were farting around.....

You're right, Wilhelm. The payoff for Sl is the people. Despite the troublemakers, the quality of people you meet in SL is amazingly high. Play any first person shooter multiplayer online and listen to the chat. Awful. The FPs' have more action and far better graphics, but they lack quality people. I don't play MMO's much, but the ability to build and express yourself isn't in those the way it is in SL.
It really is the community that makes SL worthwhile.

I like the ppl too but I like building and texturing and creating and djing and all that too
it is a mix of everything that makes SL appeal to me (I do play other games too though hehe)
as for the butter beans, I only ever heard it as beans.... not specific type
here is one for ya LOL
I am sure you heard this as a kid, and the best way to hear it is to read it outloud (sounds like nonsense outloud)
Mares eat oats, and does eat oats, and little lambs eat ivy, a kid'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you?
(kind of a sing songy rhyme)
Maybe I should make that into a gesture(wav file) for SL LOL

Easier to clean as it's non sticky! Silicone keyboard helps, too. @Wilhelm: That was...you know....in your own special way...quite a touching post. I do like to play games from time to time where I kill stuff-I've done that ever since I got my first computer in 1983. But SL IS totally different, and I wouldn't want to miss that. I've never been keen on the whole IRC and chat and IM thing, so it's quite surprising I ended up in SL I think.

I love SL..although I do tend to take a vacation...whenever i feel i need it..approx 3 months...usually to try out the newest mmorpg. I miss the last time I took a vacation to play WoW..(been well over a year now). I belonged to a guild of over 40 members and we logged on vent every night to raid the instance for that evening. I really felt a sense of community there as I do here....everything in moderation. I'm awaiting the new Conan Adventures of Hyberion Game to hit the shelves next month..I might be gone for a few weeks.. I tried Vanguard and yes..not a soul in sight..same with lotro. Can't really appreciate the graphics unless i have someone to discuss them with ~Lana Tomba

Dear Wilhelm,
Congratulations on becoming the owner of a new thought. Thought ownership is a big responsibility, and we know you want to take proper care of your thought. Thoughts can whither and die in the wrong environment, but with proper care you and your thought will enjoy many happy years together.
Remember to give your thought a proper diet and let it out of its cage for regular exercise. Change its bedding often. A clean thought is a happy thought.
We are certain your thought will have a long and happy life. Feed it lots of beans.
Sincerely,
Miss Management

OP is wrong.
Half Life 1 is Still the most played multiplayer game (according to gamespy stats and similar) and its modification CS still takes a 90% share of that. Half Life 2 is still second place and its Modification CSS takes 80% share of that (but it has been taken up during the years). So yeah, there are internet cafes where people pay like 7 USD to play 30 or 60 minutes of CSS.
sad, aint it?

I was once at a party and in the toilet line with an actress and we struck up a light conversation with another guy in the line, at one point I let off a silent fart and it was a bit smelly, anyhow I owned up, and at that point the conversation became more intense around the subject of farts.
Two months later, this guy turns out to be a film director and he contacted the hosts and said he met a actress at their party and wanted to use her in a film, and his only other clue to who she was was that another guy (myself) had farted in the conversation, anyhow a few days after this, I heard this had happened and sheepishly contacted the hosts and said I thought he had been referring to me, well the upshot of all this was, the actress got the part (not fart).
Just a funny story LOL

Even for socially dysfunctional people like myself, there is a comfort in SL. I confess I never got into SL for the social aspect. I just wanted to explore and see all the amazing things people created.
But then something snapped inside and I quickly began walking my well beaten path of doing things for other people. I know it may seem strange, but I'm one of those behind the scenes people that loves doing this for people but not really wanting to socialize. I guess I have social fears to overcome, but any way...
Along the way, I still made a few friends in SL without even trying.
And when I come in to SL, there's a comfort there. I can be social with a couple friends, play a game, or build by myself or explore. There's certainly never a lack of things to do, and I know I've barely scratched the surface.
Yes, SL rocks!

sad, aint it? whether half life is more popular that isn't the bottom line the bottom line is even though sl has a message board full of people complaining about prims stuck to their butts second life is indeed GOOD STUFF ^^ IN any event this wasnt about facts it was about my thought and a bit of farting.. well if you read the thread more farting then I thought
