need help, taking my clothes off??? haha

I just started. I try to change my clothes and the original skirt and bra thing? just stays. so if i put on pants, you still see the skirt, if i wear a different shirt, still see the bra thing. and i can't change my hair.... don't know what im doing wrong.

Some of the skins you get when you first come into SL have underwear painted on. That means you CAN'T take it off unless you get another skin.

on the second floor in the front you can get some nice free skins that will fix the problem.

Rockberry has lucky chairs and they are set where it is pretty easy to pick up a skin with just a little patience.

Hi, Fancy! Welcome to the forums, and SL! I'm sure someone who's actually inworld will drop a new player's kit on you soon *hint, hint, guys!*, but here's a few tidbits to get you started. [I tried to find a knowledge base article on getting dressed, but no luck].

Hint 1: To see what you are actually wearing right now, open your inventory and type 'worn' into the search line. Things you have on will show up in bold. If there's a skirt or anything that you don't want, just right-click it in your inventory and choose 'take off'. You can also take off clothing by right-clicking on your avatar and choosing the pie menu option.

Hint 2: For skirts and hair and sundry other things, there are TWO types of clothing. One is called 'system' clothing, these are things you can make in Appearance mode yourself, because SL has meshes for them just like for your avatar shape.

The second kind of clothing is made out of prims, and attaches to various predefined points on your avatar, such as the pelvis, stomach, head, etc.. Hair is usually done this way too.

Either kind of clothing can be put on just by right-clicking on it in inventory and choosing "wear". But to take off prim clothing on the Pie menu, you need to 'detach' it instead of taking it off.

Hint 3: Hair is tricky. System hair can be made using Appearance mode, but nobody wears it. Instead, they wear a "bald cap" (system hair of zero length) and a "wig" or "hair" that attaches to the avatar's head. If you can't take off your hair, try looking for "bald" in your inventory, and wear that.

Hint 4: Be patient. The whole SL world is acting up lately, mostly due to electrical problems at one of the server farms. But then even when everything is is running right, the lag can be trying at times. Wait and see if the server will catch up. Possibly move to another region and try again. You can search for "NCI" or "The Shelter" and use those places for dressing and asking questions. Both are very friendly places and are there to help new (and old) members.

The Forum Cartel Hangout is also a good place.

The forum hangout has a dressing room in the sky, if you would like some privacy to twiddle with fitting attachments, etc.. It's handy for new folks who don't yet have their own place. To use it, join "The Forum Cartel" group inworld, activate the group, go to the hangout in Allana, and use the teleporter in the back room, next to the room the bar is in.

There are frequent parties at the Hangout, and you can ask questions inworld into Cartel group chat if it ever works again (the stupider the question the better).

And yes, other places like NCI and the Shelter, offer changing rooms as well.

You should have that looked at.



There's also a hot tub at the forum hangout. It's not used nearly enough.

And you know, I was always told that clothing fibers are absolutely terrible on a hot tub filter so you should always be naked when you get in one.

Yes, clothing fibers, cause lag and crashing, just get rid of the clothes, to assure an enjoyable SL experience.

The forum hangout also has 2 different free portable dressing rooms for the taking. Just rez in a sandbox or somethin'.

OP - just tp over to Zindra, the new Adult Only continent. If you still have any clothes on after you have been there two minutes a crowd of Phil's ex-bots which have recently been made redundant and redeployed will emerge from their underground hiding places and strip you naked before binding you with some of Brenda's old rope and throwing you into her van that they have stolen and taking you to a place where you will be forced to read posts by Jig, Warder and Benski until your brain turns to mush and you are prepared to do the bidding of one or other of my army of alts.
