First they came for the ageplayers,
I remained silent 'cause I wasn't an ageplayer

Then they came for the furries,
I didn't protest 'cause I wasn't a furry

Then they came for the goreans,
I didn't speak up because I wasn't gorean

Then they came for me,
and there wasn't anyone left to speak up for me

Didn't see anything at all about Stroker.

Most of the info looked like it was a few years out of date - like the old Bragg vs LindenLab lawsuit, which apparently, at the time that report was put together, hadn't yet been resolved.

I think you may have been watching a different documentary, Stroker was heavily featured and I don't recall Bragg being mentioned at all, they mentioned Stroker's case.

I watched this and thought it was pretty good - certainly better than most mainstream media takes on virtual worlds.

The theme of the documentary was virtual world governance and the tension between the makers of VWs and the residents (so very topical ;) ). As well as SL, they talked about WoW, Eve, Lineage, Metaplace, TSO and a couple of others including a Chinese one they never referred to by name (wonder why not?) which I assume was HiPiHi.

I thought the Metaplace stuff was interesting - Raph Koster's Avatar Bill of Rights is used as the foundation of their ToS (although if you look at their website, all the really hairy legal thou-shalt-not rules are hidden in another document you have to agree to - the Beta agreement).

Eve was featured as having the first democratically elected resident governance council. I thought it was a pity that the elected representatives had to physically go to Iceland and meet round a table in the real world, but then from what I could see (I have never played Eve), everyone ingame is zooming around in spaceships with giant guns on the front - not exactly conducive to measured debate.

The SL stuff was largely focussed on the Stroker case, which unfortunately reinforced the link between SL and sex (oh yes, and they couldn't not mention ageplay  ), although to their credit, the documentary makers did concentrate on the legal aspects.

All in all, definitely worth watching if you can.

No, no plumbing. Stroker by his pool and Stroker in his MoCap suit. I'm pretty sure this is a new one made for UK TV.

This documentary hasn't been shown previously, I'm sure. It was titled "Another Perfect World" and seems to have been a collaboration between a Dutch company and UK's Channel4. Here's the synopsis from their site:

From: someone

Another Perfect World is a documentary about digital utopias, about online worlds created as places for work, play, friendship and love.

People have always created utopias, worlds that reflect the greatest, most enlightened and noble ideas of the period in which they live. The utopias of the future will be created online, in digital worlds capable of rendering photo-realistic depictions of whatever the mind can imagine with technologies that allow people from around the world to join in. We now have the chance to build a new world from scratch.

If you were going to do so, on which principles would you establish it? What is more important: freedom of expression; an active marketplace to encourage social interaction; or laws to define the limits of social relations?

I found it very interesting. If it gets shown elsewhere it's well worth watching.

I wish it to be known that I, Phil Deakins, am *not* the aforementioned "Uncle Phil". I am much better looking than the Phil in the documentary - whoever he is ;)

Dunno if that was the right one, but it sure was interesting. Can I keep Philip chained up in my basement please? I'm just a sucker for that "visionary madman" expression he's got going there... emphasis on madman... :D
