Indeed, because 'for the children' makes a good sound bite with those that forget that as a parent it is their responsibility to keep the kids out of places they shouldn't be.

Nice one. Says it all really.

Responsible adults who monitor their kids behavior? Now that's just crazy talk.

Have you noticed that since this information about investigations and the glancing eye of Congress has been brought forward, with a firm reporting deadline for later this year ... that even the heavy detractors of the Linden plan that live in the United States have backed off some of their over-the-edge criticism?
"No offense intended", but why should anyone take the behavior of that specific subset of the population who display the least common sense as a guide to the reliability of a rumor?

Today I tried to get a few things at Friday's Adult Shop. It's gone - the parcel in Sistiana has been vacated, the classified ads removed, and the founder simply has a note in their profile saying "Yeah, I'm done.".

That business has been around for as long as I have been in SL - over three years. Nothing extreme, just decent prim and panty layer genitalia.

How many more SL adult merchants does LL have to destroy before they will be happy?

That will be all of them in all forms sadly ;-(

And a lot of good that will do you.

Exactly the same amount of good it would do to get worked up before they do it. Which is to say, there is no difference whatsoever. In fact, I resolve right now to not get worked up about the adult changes no matter what they do.

I agree, I nearly gave my land away to a friend a while ago... it seemed so futile.

Then I just thought, it may not be as bad as it sounds and we may get some fair resolution still.

Though once it's all done and if it's fucked, I'll go and find another game.

That was then, not so much anymore?

One thing SL teached me was all the weird things people are into. I have always been a tolerant person, esp when it comes to sexuality, but I know I have changed since I started SL (to the better i hope). Maybe thats why some are so afraid, because we get to know perfectly normal human beings that perfer something besides a picket fence, 2.1 children and vanilla sex every saturday, start thinking outside their normal boxes. While my sexual preferences havent changed much (actually it has made me more vanilla), i have met and come to respect a vivid group of different sexual preferences. For me this has been educational and fun, but i can imagine that it can threaten the idea of "the breadwinner and the homemaker" ... (what a 60s`/ american concept anyway, that that should be the norm (no offence to breadwinners or homemakers, its just not for everyone).

Personally I wish LL was based somewhere else than the US since you seem to be a bit off on some legislation etc. While I am def for some regulations to come into play to prevent people to become gambling addics, banning gaming shouldnt be the answer. While I do think some grading of what to expect to see where is a good thing, there is a difference between seeing a renessanse painting with an exposed nipple and the inside of a male rectum .... And there is everything in between ....And I am not even going there with the child abuse or pedophelia as some chose to call it...

A large portion of the world are healty, tolerant adult. To be on this platform, you have to be 18 (at least for now). I wish the US as a nation was too (I know a lot of you are).

Bascially, what people do, as long as they are concenting and/or sane adults, shouldnt bother us? Let them gamble, let them have sex with their own socks or lightbulbs whatever? Its not really hurting anyone?

***Disclaimer: I shouldnt write on the forums while drunk .... But can someone please buy up LL from the yanks ?

Now, now, now, Ceera, LL doesn't want adult content to go away, they just want it off to one side - albeit far off to one side.

Think Disneyland!

Friday's was one of the first places I found when I landed in SL. SL crashed while on Orientation Island and I wasn't able to get back in. I landed somewhere around Barcola and Sistiana. It was amazing, seeing all this ... furniture ... that did stuff, at Grace Mart. And finding Friday's wasn't far behind. I bought my first bikini from his wife, Aces Spade, via a vendor in Friday's and her shop, Biquini Boutique, is pretty much the only place I go to find swimwear. Amazing what a first impression will do.

adult land
05-13-2009 22:19
maybe im looking at this wrong, but if adults have their own land you can do anything there, sex skill gaming and no can go up to you and say
'why are you having sex"?.you can play skill games until your eyes pop out, sex stuff will sell better because all the perverts will be at one place you can put gaming up call it x rated and people will come like crazy. think you are looking at this the wrong way. sex and gaming is what drives second life.

LL is stupid.
It takes a LOT of work to move a sim-wide store to another sim - adult island.
ALL the traffic will be gone, EVERYTHING needs to be rezzed again, and the owner has to set everything up himself ( dont think M Linden comes over to help an owner, oh no).

So yea, most owners will just ''leave'' their business and either leave SL or go in excile.
This is the masterplan of LL, they KNEW almost nobody would move but leave.
Step one has been made of LL's masterplan.

Not to mention if you had a high ALL search ranking, a ton of picks for your shop and all the landmarks sitting in people's inventory.....all that lost. It can take several months to build that back up......and even then, your target audience might be reduced by half or more....because they can't come in, by not being verified or not wanting to.

Yes....many more businesses will close before & after this shambolic policy goes through.

Seems Darien closed up shop and walked away. Are you implying we should all follow her example?

None taken.

The word 'even' was used in the original point, which indicates that this was not meant as a singular sample group, but as a not mentioned portion of a larger group.

Slightly off topic, but yeh, still more adult stuff stopping on the net and the reasons.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8049101.stm

The US classified ads website Craigslist says it will remove its erotic services category, following claims it promotes prostitution.

In place will be a new adult services section that will be closely monitored.

"Sued"

In recent months the spotlight has been turned on the San Francisco company, following a series of high-profile cases.

What's wrong with waiting awhile to see what happens to sales, etc.

Some people can't afford it.

Some people also feel they see the 'writing on the wall' and don't wish to stick around to watch a slow dissolution.

Wow I have known Friday forever...I am shocked that he shut down. I bet it was a hard decision for him and Aces.

Jeeze....

FINALLY! Somebody said it. We have no idea what exactly is going to happen. I'm sure many of you will say that you know, but if you're not a Linden then it's all guesswork.
I understand the concern, but to bail out based on how this all will work out seems foolish to me. What's wrong with waiting awhile to see what happens to sales, etc.

I suspect you can get more drama value by giving up now than later. More room for others who don't give in so easily, just because the rules are going to change.
I suspect many those leaving haven't been overly sucessfull or are expecting the quick buck rather than longer term returns. If they were sucessfull they would have sold the business to someone else.
It'll be a pity to see some great creators leave but they will be replaced.

I actually agree with you to a large extent

In my case I was working on reopening a very successful business that I closed a few years ago for personal reasons. After weeks of attempting to get an answer from LL on what my classification would be I simply decided to heck with it. I didnt miss that business THAT much and I had other things on my plate to keep me in SL. Hassel Factor != desire ;)

No one knows why they left exactly, and people come and go in SL.

What the adult policy will mean to us still remains to be seen, packing up now just because you do not want to have anything to do with those changes, is up to each and every individual themselves. Throwing in the towel based on rumors is just plain stupid.

For some merchants the move to Ursula and adult estates will be a success. For some, it will be a disaster. But only time will tell. Business closing just because there are going to be changes, would have closed anyway. Their heart is not into it anymore.

And yes, I sell adult stuff too, albeit only a small percentage. Just moved to a HS sim too. Probably I will have to move those adult items towards an adult parcel, we will see. Invested quite a lot in animations, but if I have to, I will change my business plans.
Either you are building for creativity, then you switch from prim pussies to something else. Or you are building to make some money, then you simply adapt. That's business.

Wow, well said. I've really expanded my horizons, and my tolerance quotient, since coming here. I've had pleasant conversations with dommes, with kajirae, and with weird mutant creatures. I've had snickering ferrets nibble my socks, and had to hold my knees together while leering rabbits ran around trying to see up my skirt.

I'm currently in a polygamous lesbian relationship with two women, and I'm madly in love with both of them...and in the Real World, you probably won't find anyone more vanilla than me.

It's hard to understand why LL would want to stifle this sort of mental and emotional broadening. Didn't they say they were for diversity? And education? ;)
