My favourite activity while dancing is to zoom around and look at everyone else (besides chatting, of course).
I mean, you can only look at a bunch of avatars bopping around at a distance so long before you have to take a closer look at Rioko's boots.

I'm going to say it here and now. Those Engineer boots you have are way better than Rioko's.

I've been called a bit snooty in RL because I've walked right by people without even acknowledging them. It's not that I actually saw them and decided not to say hello, it just meant that I was probably thinking about all the things I had to do that day, and not focusing on my present surroundings. I'm a bit like this in SL.

my friends and family used to get SO mad at me for this, until they laerned that it wasn't 'just them' and that it was 'always'. LOL i am especially bad about it when i am driving. i just get tunnel vision when i am really focused.

I cam like crazy, and if it's an interesting avvie, I'm gonna be spinning the came around, etc. Looking at details. If there's someting I'm *really* interested in, too, then I might just right click and inspect!

Haha, I love those.
I also love the "I hate drama! If you're into drama, stay away from me, and then they start talking about so and so, and what a jerk they are,etc etc etc continued in picks..."

Oh I love those profiles!!

I have someone trying to drag me into a profile war at the moment which I have way to much class for obviously ;) But that was one of the main points on their profile.."I hate drama..." Oh the irony! Whats even funnier is one of her friends / followers who has dedicated a pick to me has over hers that she hates drama!!

I laugh very hard! Its all the excitement of sl... But no way would I stick such a thing in mine.. Class people.. class!

... If I've not come across someone before, it's odds-on I've digested their profile within a minute. ....
I even go back and reread profiles a lot. I change mine by adding picks and updating the comments to be current, so I check others to see if they have modified theirs also.

I do too. My friends list gets a thorough going over when I have a spare minute or two.

It doesn't take long to check 5 profiles :o

:D Thanks...wow...didn't expect to see so many posts, cool!

I get the tunnel vision thing IRL all the time. I tend to be withdrawn and if I'm driving...forget it.... so many times people have said to me..."Hey I saw you and I waved and you didn't wave back" .... I am just not looking for that when I'm driving....I'm focused on my destination lol. But, people I notice.... always have....I'm an observer of life by nature.

But...that tendancy gets reversed in SL because I'm in SL for the visual aspects....so I notice everything. ;)

Seems to me that, considering so many people's interest in how avatars look, the LAST thing LL would want to mess with is how you can outfit yourself! Makes this whole ARC thing even more misguided.

Jeesh. I really need to work on my profile. It's the only thing that gives me writer's block. I just can't figure out what to say. It's like I'm writing my own obit.

I cam my surroundings more then avvies, unless it's a really interesting avvie, then I want a closer look or if I'm taking pictures of course, which is my new favorite thing to do. I'm becoming an SL tourist :p

I really don't even think about it much, I forget about profiles, so I don't read them often and I don't think of zooming in on people much either.

Same here! I love reading everyone else's but when writing mine I sit and stare at the blinking cursor forever and then eventually end up with something that sounds like it was copied out of a handbook for writing common profiles.

Dunno Windy but I'm going for it!

Someone asked me a while ago why do I stay behind the bar at the hangout instead of dancing with all the beautiful women there .... simple! ... the view's better!!

Cam/zoom .. chat .. cam/zoom .. chat .. it's a busy life!

Bilbo doesn't get looked at much by me .. someone recently went "OMG! Bilbo's not wearing black!" .. er .. yeah! ;)

Umm .. not going to turn this into an alt thread but I think I pee-ed one or two of the regulars off last night when I waltzed my alts in one by one for the hangout HUD :( Now *they* are my pride and joy. How people respond to them is what drives me to experiment with shapes, outfits .. 'accessories'.

Profiles .. I went through revamping mine recently .. why do so many people just put surreal extracts in theirs? Some just read like a page torn out of a fantasy novel .. doesn't tell me a thing.

Probably just means that they're into Role Playing with that av, so in effect, it is telling you a wee bit about them - they like to RP.

Personally, the reason I don't write a mini bio about me in the 1st /2nd Life tab, is not because I want to hide who I am, but more because I don't want to give the impression that I'm looking for a partner. I'm pretty open about where I'm from, and who I am when chatting, though.

It can take some time for people to rez, but I am always reading profiles. I have come to realize that they are very important. At first, I did not see the value. But, now, I think that the profile really offers insight into the real person.

I know that a lot of people spent a lot of time on their avatars. I am just not like that other than the fact that I love to go shopping and spend a lot of time dressing and changing. I chose my av and just decided to stick with it. I have created an identity and want to stick with it. Besides, I get a lot of compliments and it makes me feel good about my av.

I try not to pay a lot of attention to other people's avs and just focus on the person behind, but there are certain avs that I find incredibly attractive. I try not to get all into appearance since it is just pixels...but it is hard sometimes. For example, I met someone who looked like someone that I would date in FL, I cannot help but find him attractive. So, if you add in a great personality...I have a winner! LOL

There have been so many threads about how we view ourselves and others in SL.....about avatars in general...how we create them, perfect them...... so many discussions about self perception....

It got me thinking. A few years bck when I used to go to the gym with a friend of mine...it really wasn't my thing but I went .. I just hated working out among others. I'd rather jog or hike...but whatever. At one point one of the trainers was talking to me and to appeal to my angst he said...."everyone here is so worried about how they look to everyone else, that nobody notices anyone else"

Sometimes....I get the feeling SL is like that in terms of how we literaly 'look' at others. I have a 24" moniter...so not much escapes my attention. I DO look at others all the time... I love zooming and really getting a good look at different characters. It's just neat to do. People do some amazing stuff with their avatars....and then there are others....well ... where you just sort of wish they'd ask for your advice/help. LOL

But....I also change my own look a lot....and I'm really only doing it to appeal to my own sense of creative expession. I'm not worried about others seeing me as someone different all the time.... and honestly, I get the feeling most people don't notice anyway.

So....my question is......honestly... do you really notice/look at others.....or are you pretty much focused on your own avatar most of the time. I'm not passing any judegement here..I just wonder if people watch their avatar the way they would watch a main character in a movie....or if if you ARE the camera....and you zoom all over the place and really notice details of others. Just curious. :D

Mainly i concentrate on my own appearance..my alt (tinkerbell) has taken over BIG TIME, I am always tweaking her to perfection. I do take notice of unusual avi's tho...especially neko's, they are always fascinating to me...and beautiful hair always grabs my attention.

I'm usually looking at the browser on the other screen. I often time out of SL due to inactivity. When I'm looking at the SL screen I usually have the group chat window open, most often to the Mental Mentors for seeing general chat or the Scripters of Second Life.

This has varied over the years.

The camera movement in the latest release seems a bit broken.
