Someone else. I like to call the people that do the Help Request service that are not Lindens Help Request Representatives. I sent IM's to 5 Lindens; they were all offline. I have also put the contents of the email in a notecard to show them.

From: Argus Collingwood When you view source or details do the addresses still match up with known Linden Email data? It says in the email I posted to login to this URL: http://r.vresp.com/?LindenLab/a69a5d59e6/879774/99c2d50e24/5f46d1b which I have not yet clicked on (My 1,0000th post YAY!~)

[post=58302]Our arrangement with Vertical Response is...[/post] From: Robin Linden Our arrangement with Vertical Response is very clear in terms of privacy -- under no circumstances would your mail addresses be shared. I know they are very concerned about the perception that they enable spamming (most mail houses deal with that problem whether they are legitimate or not, and as far as I can tell, nearly anyone doing mass mailings ends up on the lists as spammers).
However, I'm really bummed to hear that there's a possibility some of you are getting more junk as a result of being on our list. I'll see what we can do about that next week. [post=63710]Update on the email questions[/post]

From: tristan Eliot Is the email real or not because I got one too. well the archived posts are very old its possible that Linden labs now has its own email server and doesn't use a rented service for keeping lists. For me I would not use it i dont care the explanations in the body of the email for me the email is not from the correct domain names so i would delete it. Its up to you though personally if i wanted to know so badly I would send it source code an all to linden labs and ask for an answer . YOu have no idea what that link will do at the other end so its better to be safe then sorry. Linden labs recently posted where there emails will come from that was not mentioned in the posts the domain was clearly linenlabs.com

I received a reply to my inquiry from a Linden in-world who verified that this email was legitimate and sent from LL. I am not sure why they did not post, but at least we know now.

How in the world did you get a hold of a Linden? lol. It's the weekend! I couldn't find any in Linden Village, and I must have IM'ed 10 of them so far with no replies. But yeah, at least we know it's not a phishing scam; that's good to know.

I'm gonna concede that I was wrong and this is not a hoax. However, only LL could manage to send a legitimate email that looks fake. Appalling.

And not be availble so those concerned could find out =/ took over 20 hours for confirmation. A simple blog note would have helped immensly - Sounded like Robin didnt even know about it since she was going to invistigate on Monday. With something this big, a memo should have been emailed to every single person that has contact with customers in world or off.

To those of you using outlook express... (shut off preview panel first... but nother subject) If you right-click on the email, properties, message source... it allows you to view an email without actually opening it. I usually just scroll to the bottom to find the .gif or .jpeg that is the actual message (in coded form)... but often this has let me spot .exe and other executible files too.. I rarely actually open something not "real" this way.

Hi all,
Never fear, this is not a scam. It's something we sent out yesterday in response to a concern that there may be some people who need to make sure their credit cards are secure.
Vertical Response is the company we use to help us with mass mailings. They do a terrific job protecting your email addresses, and go to great lengths to stay white-listed.

From: Elanthius Flagstaff However, only LL could manage to send a legitimate email that looks fake. Nah, I've gotten things from my RL bank that looked like phishing scams, coming from domain names that weren't the bank's actual domain. Amazing the stupidities that non-tech-oriented marketing people will commit. That this comes from a tech company, on the other hand... Really, as easy as it is for spammers to fake addresses, you'd think reliable mail houses would be able to send out letters that look like who they're really from.
