I'm currently in a University English class that requires us to research something for a paper. I've chosen SL. So, if anyone could help me out and take my survey on your experiences in SL, it would help my out a bunch. Thanks to anyone who can, it should only take about ten minutes of your time. http://www.eSurveysPro.com/Survey.aspx?id=5cfa0ec3-b492-47f2-b08d-f30d086292ff

From: Toy LaFollette so get inworld and do it, we arent ginea pigs for you or your lame research I have, but I haven't had so much luck with getting people to take my survey in world. But I'm very willing to bet that you would give me this same response if I asked you to do my survey in world, so what's the point? Just let me try to do my work.

We have had NO LESS than 7 survey requests this week. You'll have to excuse us if we're a little testy about it. You're asking us to use OUR time to do YOUR research, without pay, without any credentials other than it's a paper. EVERYBODY is doing SL surveys for college. Perhaps try WOW. Or Legend City. Or anything else. Be original. But no, we're sick of being guinea pigs.

Did the survey, not bad, but only took about 60 seconds. Was there more to it? [Yes, poor timing to have any new surveys posted. Does this influx of academic surveys coincide with the school term in some way?]

*sighs*
Will...you got us on a really, really bad week. The forums have been barraged this week with survey requests, and some have been found to be less than...creditable.
I don't mind completing surveys, but I think most people will need additional information about what university you attend, the nature of the survey, what type of course it's for, etc.

Hi Will, you really NEED to do a search on the forums using the keyword "survey" and have a look at some of the threads we have had here in recent days.

And if you DO expect help here...don't get crappy with the people you're trying to entice...with NO benefits to us at all.

I just have to shake my head and laugh a little.
All you have to do is take a look at the forums, 3 or 4 research people have been OWNT in the past few days. Look around, and realize that we strongly object to being used as research subjects.
(OWNT is a word I bring from WoW and before that DAoC and before that, RS. It means someone just got killed or at the least, beaten badly...in case that helps your research.)
PIE (not a signature, but a request)

The problem is that if you had taken some time to search the forums, you would see we get 3-8 survey requests a WEEK! We are not here to help you pass your class, nor are we lab rats.. We are FREE RATS! FREE I SAY!.. err.. sorry, forgot it was time for the little yellow pill again. But as I was saying, we are constantly getting these requests, and you pokey types don't even offer cheese.. or pie. So I suggest you use the SEARCH button, look for answers, and make up the survey results on what you find. It will be closer to a mythical truth, and you will pass your class.

OK, I did the survey; it did not take long. But Will...be warned, you are in for a bumpy ride today.

A word of advice, Will. If you search this forum, you'll see that about a bajillion people already came here with surveys. Some were legitimate, some were marketeers looking for people to sell stuff to. As such, this forum has become fairly hostile to surveys (as you can see).
My recommendation to you is, rather than simply toss a survey up, is to do the research. Go inworld. Find the places outside of the welcome areas. explore them decide first for yourself what makes it a compelling world. Then, armed with that knowledge, start asking the friends and others you come across in your travels.
You'll not only gain a wealth of knowledge some simple survey won't catch, but you'll have done the hard work that will lead you to be a better student

Its too bad all the previous researchers can't pool the data they have gleaned from SL surveys. It would greatly cut down on all these repetitive requests. To the OP I suggest you contact the previous surveyors listed in these threads and suggesting everyone share the data. It would yield you lots more information to work with and you would have the thanks of everyone here if you posted the data on a website someplace where everyone could access it.

Did you ask permission from LL to create an account strictly to post a survey in their forum?

From: Jesse Barnett Did you ask permission from LL to create an account strictly to post a survey in their forum? Is permission required? That is news to me. But its been ages since I read the TOS.

There's no substiture for going in-world and experiencing SL for yourself. Then you could perhaps post one or two polls on here to gather a bit of statistical info to add to your subjective experience.

From: ArchTx Edo Is permission required? That is news to me. But its been ages since I read the TOS. I have absolutely no idea, but then again neither do the researchers. It would make sense that there should be some policy in effect somewhere stating that Marketers and Researchers need to register with LL and have their credentials verified before proceeding. But no one is even taking the time to even ask LL if there is a policy. Receive assignment, create free, throw away account, log in to world one time only, post survey in forum, leave SL with absolutely no idea what in the hell SL really is.

There must have been quite a lot of research findings published about SL, and survey results too - even some by Linden Lab themselves.
