$10k US.
After dreaming about what I would love to spend it on for a few days, in the end I would use it to pay for one of the operations I need that will help save my life. One less wait on the never-never plan of public health waiting lists for much needed surgeries can't be a bad thing :)

I'd use it to move back to the part of the world my parents live in, so my daughter and I can see them before they die. We live so far away that it's unlikely we will see them again... in this lifetime... without some sort of major windfall.

No no, wind generator farms!!

I don't live close enough to the capital to get a strong enough wind.... And I do think that politicians are the leading cause of global warming. All that hot air.. going to waste...

Truly, I believe that if people were given the means to use the current green tech, like solar panels and wind mills, we'd find the current human condition raised quite nicely. Same goes for the third world countries.. give 'em the tools to get going and see what happens.

Might sound totally counterintuitive, but give it to Bill Gates for any real effect.

More specifically, his vaccine and medical care foundations for third world nations.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (http://www.gatesfoundation.org/) does not appear to accept donations. Not unless you're Warren Buffett, anyway. But the Foundation mostly funds the work of existing groups, so you could donate money to one or more of the organizations that they donate money to; easy to find out, as they detail all their donations on the web site.

no way. i don't want you to end up evil.
I am so lucky to have a friend like you that cares so much about me.

I would be willing to take that chance, you know? Just so that you would know for sure that it really is evil -- cuz I am a really good friend too.
