Customer Opinion Index of good and bad Estates and Landlords

The Princess of Yaximixche is providing a customer opinion index of the main estates and landlords in Second Life. Please cast your vote and choose the best and worst landlord, both names will be strongly promoted in different media channels and amongst Second life residents in order to improve Second Life's business and residential experience. I don't rent any land so have no opinions about rentals or Land Barons. But, out of interest, how are you going to ensure the votes are not gamed one way or the other? I can see either Landowners using alt accounts to boost favourable results, or unscrupulous ones falsely slating their honest competitors.

Good luck with that. I hope you don't run afoul of any of SL's rules about naming names in resident disputes. IMHO, it's not the smartest idea to dub anyone the "best" or "worst" based on the results of an open survey that could be gamed by anyone with an axe to grind against a certain individual.

So I'm just going to sulk instead.

A yes/no survey? Hmmmmm . . . too late to add "Maybe." Curious about the thought process as to why not. Also "bankruptcy" is mentioned in the context of residents evaluating the risk of ownership, but what land baron is going to offer up their balance sheet for public review? Gosh! If I were a tenant on any of these estates, high tailing it out of there might be a good idea.

I just had to post because I'm a PS too.

But to stay on topic, I question how reliable the results will be based on the way the survey is set up.

Elanthius, you could always petition the princess to be included in the survey so you can deploy your bot army!

This is just silly. The results so far seem to be a race to the bottom, so unless the objective is to get everyone to flee Estates to the safety of Mainland ownership, this is not going according to plan.

(Hence, Elanthius, you don't really need to be registered to play; the Flock can join in and trash the competition, just as everyone else has been doing.)

It's quite interesting. I guess there must be literally thousands of mini land barons and each one is naturally going to vote negatively for all the others. Probably even residents of estate X will vote against estate A, B, C and D.

In the end I suppose it's logical that there are way more people financially incentivised to vote against each estate than there are people who would want to vote for their favourite.

I already know I'm the best landlord in SL, so I have no need of this thing that smacks of yet another useless survey.

This whole idea is silly. Estates are a vote with your feet business. If an estate has several sims and has been in business for 6 months or more they are probably doing SOMETHING right.

I'm not on the list yet and don't really care to be. As long as people keep renting my land and are happy with their experience, I know I and my staff are doing a good job.

Alot of worthless surveys come through here. This one ranks near the worst.

A customer index where anyone can vote for any reason without any verification that they actually ever even rented land, without any explanation of why they are voting one way or another, and no means of verifying their explanation is true or a valid reason to vote the way they did. Why not just flip a coin? It's just as reliable.

Am I "Caledon Cape Wrath"? That's the name of a northern region of mine, but that's all.

Ya know, there is one thing I like about all this. The parties are declaring who they are, and are not pretending to be neutral like some of the fake "better business bureaus" did. When Ginko was doing the Madoff make~off, they never busted an A rating from the "SLBBB" or whatever it was, even as unaware depositors poured in money after withdrawals ceased.

Anyway, anyone in the business or renting for a while will be able to tell if the results are nonsense or not pretty handlily.

I looked at the survey's results for an estate with an extremely good reputation. If there were a way to conduct an impartial survey, I'm certain over 90% of the people responding would give a favorable rating for that estate. This survey's results, however, showed over 50% of the responses have been "Strongly no."

I certainly didn't vote. Participation would only help perpetuate this sham.

But, there is one thing that breaks this survey out from all the rest: It's actually in context!

Since hardly anyone seems to be casting a positive vote for anybody, I suggest a new set of choices that would give a more meaningful survey:

* Worse than Hitler
* Worse than Ginko
* Worse than Ad farmers
* Sucks really bad

Since you are a vampire now (having been bitten for dinner and all), "Cape Wrath" should be a very fitting name when you are roaming the nightly skies of Caledon on the prowl for hapless maidens to sink your fangs in, after enfolding them in your Cape of Wrath (or something like that...)
