Classified ad censoring?

I placed a new ad last night and twice got an error message something like, "The word slots is not allowed in classified ads, your ad has not been placed."

Well, I didn't have the word slots in there. The only thing I could figure was maybe the word "lots" was being picked up?

I removed that word and it went through. What the heck is going on???

what was the word right before "lots?" Did it end in an S? Are you sure there was a space where it was needed to separate them?

I certainly hope the classifieds system is not that dumb, but you never know.

Type in "sluts" see what happens.

It wouldn't surprise me if it IS that dumb.

Well, banning the word "slots" seems bad enough - it has lots of other uses besides gambling.

No. It was the first word in a sentence, there was a period and two spaces before it.

"Lots of this item available."

If they're banning words that could possibly be associated with gambling, there goes the ability to advertise fireplace pokers, fish and chips, and lonely hearts clubs.

Well, it is nice to know that they are giving warning messages instead of letting you place/pay for the ad and then taking it down.

Seems like they need to work on the nanny filter though.. a lot.

The censoring of classified ads is heavy handed and annoying. Gothic Lolita clothing can't have a classified because pervs might see Lolita in a different light. We shouldn't be allowing the bad apples to own these words, it's extremely silly.

If you can't say "lots" what else can't you put in there??

"I'll wager you'll love my stuff!" Nope.

"Don't gamble with those other sellers!" No.

Haven't they fixes that yet?

Presumedly you can create an avatar called Lolita (given the number who show up in a people search), so are all Lolita's in game unable to create an add then?

There are even a few avatars in there called Slots!

You seem to be implying that freedom of speech ever existed here in the first place.

Saying the word "lots" in an ad is a poor choice of words for an advertisment anyways... not very professional looking...

"lots of items for sale"

"many items for sale"

which sounds better anyway?

Saying the word "lots" is common slang in the english language, but it doesnt belong in an ad. Remember, SL is a worldwide thing, and "lots" of people dont speak english, and copy text from ads, and use translators to gleen the meaning from the ad. You're best off using the most proper english you can when placing an ad so as to not loose customers who cannot understand your ad because "lots" of transation software doesn't recognize the usage of the word "lots" in that context.

That's not how I used it, that's the example I gave. Besides, the issue at hand is NOT grammar, it's censorship.

Is America not meant to be the home of free speech?

Its also the home of Hip Hop and the art of rapping and i can guarantee you that most rappers wouldn't allow anyone to censor their lyrics.

Anyone remember 2 live crew and the first amendment case?

There is a big difference between regulatory censorship (Which is what the 1st ammendment is supposed to protect us from) and a company saying what you can and can not use thier equipment for.

This, I hardly wish to think about. Maybe even speech that vibrates the air is unprotected as long as people can claim ownership of plants...

That is an awesome point... :(
