In another thread, we talked about painted-on female bits vs. prim-type attachments, and most seemed to prefer the painted-on variety.

This weekend, I bought a big bundle of new skins. These, like many newer skins, have painted-on eyelashes, making my prim lashes redundant (unless I really want to have a heavily made-up appearance).

I also ran across a series of eyes that had a little starburst painted in. I still like my blingy starburst contact lenses, but these eyes are a reasonable substitute and save an attachment point.

For a long time now, I've been using glove type manicures almost exclusively. The prim nails are prettier, but pop off the fingers under the influence of many animations, or when you try to hold something or wear a ring.

In fact, I seem to be on asimplification kick. One of these days soon I'm going to put all my AO animations into MEAO and use my MystiTool as my AO, saving another set of buttons.

Do the rest of you who have been around for a while find yourselves simplifying, slimming down, streamlining your avatar?

Interesting question. I don't think I ever had Treasure too tricked out to begin with. Besides her 'everyday' skin, she only has 2 more. One of those is for 'dress up special occasion' which just means more makeup, and the other one is just cause I liked it. AO's annoy me, and I can't remember to wear it anyway so usually don't. I do wear a walk, only to avoid the duck waddle. lol I don't know how she can get more simple......I used to try the glove nails but kept losing my ring, so now don't bother with them. I have a tatt, leg henna actually that I really like, so wear that usually. The instant I log on, I type in 'bling off', I just HATE bling. So anything blinging I get rid of. That's about it. Other than let her run around naked I can't think of how else to simplify her.

I simplify my inventory more than I do my avatar.

My latest endeavor: to take outfits that come with multiple coat/shirt/pant combinations and separate them into folders so I can just click on the folder and Replace Outfit and not have to dig through all the component parts.

I've gone the opposite direction in some ways. (^_^)

My current bob-cut hair is near double the ARC of my old twin-tails style. (^_^)

My scripts used to be limited to nothing more than an AO... Now, it's AO, Mystitool, HI-HUD, Chimera, and a scripted collar. (^_^)

I used to wear near-nothing, jeans, or something of the sort... Now, it's a lot of goth-loli styles, scripted shoes, feathers, and flexi. (^_^)

If anything... My ARC dances anywhere from 600 to 2000 and I'm very unapologetic about it. I like my look and rarely ever get a complaint... Plenty of "U R cute" IMs though. =^-^=

I spend so much time building and taking care of customers that my avi has to be simple. I no longer wear jewelry. I wear the same clothes for days, even weeks at a time.

I used to fiddle with my AO all the time. I like the way it is set now, so I haven't changed it in months. I never change my skin. I will change my hair if I am in a laggy area, or I will detach my MystiTool in those cases, but I do not like to. I always wear my Mysti when I am in my store so I do not ignore a customer simply because I did not see them.

I do change my shape while I am creating poses so I can see how the pose looks on different size bodies. I made my own shape long ago, so there is a copy of it in every outfit folder I use. but once again, I only change this for business reasons.

So yea, I think many of us probably simplify after a while. We all find things that we enjoy doing and that's what we concentrate on. We can't all be models and change clothes constanly, can we?

I don't simplify may avatar as I'm a fairly simple dresser anyway.

But most of my outfits are in folders that include everything like AO, hairstyle and shape (I use a slightly modified shape with skirts and dresses to give a fit more consistent with my normal shape). Then I can do quick changes and then just swap one or two items for variety.

I've never used an AO HUD, I simply leave the sit line blank so I never really need to turn it off or ever think about it... (Assuming your AO was made with proper priorities of course!) ;)

Most tools I keep in one attachment item that I always wear, I've never liked prim lashes more than the standard lashes since they don't blink with my eyelids, and a friend who had them always looked totally strange when she blinked.

So no, I guess I've always tried to keep things fairly simple? My prim nails I wear only when I do heavier makeup (and I know which popular dance maker's dances were all made improperly and would "break" them).

I do things like put the same freebie color change script in anything I get, so I don't have to try to remember or figure out different systems...

Kinda sorta. I've never had an elaborately dressed avatar, so nothing to report there - but I've always been a big believer in reducing HUD clutter and consolidating gadgets and controls. The end result is, I wear 2 items on my HUD right now:

- a ZHAO-II with an extra button and script I made to initiate dances and random animations (and turn my AO on and off accordingly), and also hiding in the ZHAO prims is an open-source flight script (which I never need to turn off or interact with), and a freebie hugger.

- a freebie avatar scanner I've used since day one (well, ok, day two) which depends on the arrangement of its prims to properly display the lines of floaty text so it doesn't really consolidate easily. Plus it sits mostly off-screen at the bottom of my HUD so I can't begrudge the screen real estate it uses.

Do you really mean "replace outfit", not "add to outfit"?

Edit: a ferret without his attachments is a pitiful thing.

Now this interests me. Mysti as an AO? Details, please?

i guess i travel light...i have flexi prim hair and jewelry on at all times, but other than that, not much. I use a free AO that is the only one ive ever liked and a free radar i got from xlstreet a long time ago. otherwise i will pull out my flight feather or my translator only as needed and that is it. my clothing and hair are the main things i change out and add to every day. i do wear prim lashes some of the time.

i dont use huggers cuz they dont work with my ao, no spanker, one gesture that is triggered by a word in chat....etc.

I guess you could say I complexify. HUDs, AO, primmy attachments and hair. I generally don't like clothing layers, except in moderation, and only when they don't give that "painted on" look.

I rarely wear any prims at all these days, and have been that way for nearly a year now. I made a very simple AO and stuck it in my Mysti, ditto for a very simple hugger, and that's all I really need. System shoes, system hair, system clothes.

Yeah, I like to keep it simple. :)

For everyday wear, I'll usually go minimal: no prim clothing (except shoes), and no flexi hair. My current fave is an Audrey Hepburn look; black capris, turtleneck, kitten heels, and a 60's style updo. I can go anywhere and feel presentable, but I'm saving my puter. That's the outfit in my "Quick Change" folder.

I used to change clothes every time I logged in; now I'll stay in my Audrey look for days at a time, and only change when I want to go somewhere specific, or to a specific event.

The more stuff you wear, the higher your 'rendering cost'.

I generally keep my avie simple. Saves time when meeting with/helping others etc.
I've got more things to do than waste time of others rendering a lavish outfit. 9/10 times they're not there to admire me, they're there to talk to me.

Since I live in dresses and cannot stand system skirts, I always have a prim skirt attached, with prim hair and prim heels. I do wear jewelry though i really need to delete about 90% of it because I pretty much only rotate between the same half dozen sets -- but then I am definitely not a jewelry girl in RL either.

I have never used prim intimate bits and have never liked prim nails or lashes, though I did give them a try (which reminds me, that is another batch of stuff that can be deleted from my almost exploding inventory).

HUDs now are a different story -- I only have one HUD point currently free and I actually have one point that I use for multiple items as I usually only need one of those at a time. I had thought many times about moving my AO into my Huddles, though based upon that other thread I might move it into my Mysti.

ARC is deceptive. It only counts the cost of rendering attachments, not the cost of rendering the avatar itself.

The bare avatar is actually very expensive to render, which is why they came up with "avatar imposters".

If it was included in the ARC, a bare avatar would have an ARC about 6000. That is, if you have an Ancient Dragon with megaprim sculpted attachments with an ARC of 6000, then it has about the same impact on your viewer lag as two Ruths with an ARC of 1 each.

ARC is a useful guide, but it's *very* rough, and it's not worth sweating yourself deep down into the green if you don't like the way you look.
