You should always use an antiskeptic if you get cut by Occam's Razor.

A wimpy politically correct inadequately informed realist.

I don't agree with this - an inadequately informed person wouldn't be much of a realist, they would tend to get hold of the wrong end of the stick.

From: Pserendipity Daniels
It doesn't effect it, it affects it..

I do agree with this. I've no idea what effects result in the phenominum of real life, but I don't think scepticism is one of them. Real Life is what happens in the absence of Second Life, isn't it?

From: Pserendipity Daniels
Only if you don't know the person behind the idea, which forces you to consider the idea as it is expressed.

Strongly disagree here. Once expressed, the extrapolation of value judgement made onto the expressor, is automatic. "Whoever thought that is batty!" That's the way the mind works - you don't have to know the person.

From: Pserendipity Daniels
Any other thoughts? The two reasons for not being sceptical are:

1. You *KNOW* the truth already.
2. You are too stupid to worry.

You forgot:

3. It makes no difference anyway, or it does not *affect* me, so it really doesn't matter.

Depends where you are in Real Life.

Forgot to explain, I work to a 36 hour day - get more done that way.

You aren't actually disagreeing with me . . . :p

I think Gordon just got his grammar wrong, but if it made you think . . . ;)

I know it's the way the unthinking mind works; it is not how *I* think, because I would prefer not to look a fool if the proponent of the idea was generally perceived as reliable. :D

That is a subset of 2.

Freud said, "If you want to be a thorough skeptic, you have to doubt your own skepticism sometimes."

Being skeptical is healthy when it's turned on ourselves, so we examine our own beliefs and see whether there is anything in them.

However, you can go too far, and as Dr. F pointed out, you sometimes have to ask why you need to question everything. It may be a way of avoiding life.

Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living, but I can tell you that the examined life is not so great either.

And when skepticism becomes a person's chief way of interacting with other people, it is unsufferable.

That does not matter! It is Wednesday now - and that is my "have a dig at Pep day".

Just? Only "just"??? Capital offence!

It may surprise you to know that I can think deeply about all sorts of things - shoes, for example.

That's a dreadful mistake to make. Never rely on a general perception! Look how sensible candidates can seem before they are elected. Once they get into Parliament some dreadful metamorphosis seems to take place and you wonder how the idiots got themselves elected! ... but they were generally perceived as reliable!

Is it? Where is the intersection?

Surely that's "SALOPPy"? (I think it means something in French.)

You must make some allowances Pep - many of us have had to go back to the basic editor to post at all.
