Probably staffing issues. They probably only use one guy on Sundays, NoLife Linden.

Sundays don't seem as bad now as they did back last spring. For a long time Sundays meant downtime and no log ins.

I have tried to use SL several times today and it will only operate for 5 or 10 minutes. I have been through the whole exercise with memory and video card already. Friday night I was on for 6 hours. Today after five minutes my avatat freezes or just starts walking into the ground trough walls non-stop.

Conductor - based on what you're describing, this sounds like some sort of Networking problem. If your avatar "starts walking into the ground through walls non-stop" - that usually means that you've become disconnected from Second Life, or the connection is so poor you might as well be disconnected.

How fast is your internet connection? If its not very fast, Second Life will be extremely sensitive to it.

Likewise if you have a wireless connection, Second Life often misbehaves with that as well. Sometimes folks have had better luck switching to a hard-wired connection instead of the wireless. At the very least, trying this might help you isolate what the true problem is.

Because of problems in the past... I upgraded to the fastest DSL available and I have a Nividia Graphics card with 512meg of ram and I upgraded the PC to 2 gigs of ram. It is directly connected to the DSL line.

Saturday was bad... today is much worse.

Just my gut - I dont think this has anything to do with your video card. But it certainly could be on Linden's end too. Then again, if this problem was on Linden's side, you'd have lots of folks complaining about similar behavior as you are at the same time.

This is a longshot, but another thing you could try is playing with the Network slider under preferences. If the slider is set too low, you may get disconnected frequently. If the slider is set too high - you'll get something called 'Packet Loss' - which will make your connection perform extremely poor as well.

Lastly - have you tried different regions within Second Life? Different regions on the grid may be hosted at different colocations across the US. The connection to San Francisco might be fine, while the one serving Dallas might have seperate issues. Just a thought :)

I'll try anything short of standing on my head. This issue happens on weekends most of all.

Well, there must be some box--a DSL modem at least, if not a router--that connects the copper pair coming into the premises with the ethernet cable from your computer. I'd try power-cycling that thing. (I agree with Travis: this sounds very "network-no-work" to me.)

Could be your connection bandwidth is done by polling - busier at the weekend for some DSL domestic use networks - have you tried logging in earlier in the day on a Sunday?

It was recommended on an earlier post to set my speed preference at 500 and set my viewing range to 60 meters. 60 is way too low for me. Increasing my speed has greatly enhanced my experience.

I appreciate all the help, I got a bunch of work done on my hotel today.

Sunday for who?
It's Monday for me, SL Saturday should be the bigger day as Aussies and Asians are having Sunday. So it's the only day weekends overlap. I wish people would stop scedueling events on SL Sunday, I have to be at work :/

Sunday... Monday... Whatever... (^_^) I saw another Linden in Hanja tonight around midnight. I'm in the same time zone so it wasn't Monday morning for him yet.

I tried to chat and he just poofed. I even used my new Konbanwa gesture...(T_T)

I have to admit... They have really cool AVs. (^_^)y

That's ISP traffic. At a guess you are deep in a residential area and when the weekend strikes, you get a double hit: for one thing, your neighbours all start surfing (which hits your DSL contention ratio hard) and for another, your ISP nerds start doing maintenance (because they don't care 'bout you, they care 'bout their business clients, who are off the line during those periods).

You may also be suffering from peak-load traffic shaping, where your ISP basically Bogarts the line from them to the backbone and throws traffic away to dissuade users from operating P2P or other traffic-heavy services.
