Okay first of all I think ive got to be having more SL problems at one time than I can imagine anyone having. Must be something new. But all of the sudden a few days ago I realized i could not teleport and when I would try it would log me off. I thought this was due to Cache or something Im wearing but no. I detached all and tried and nothing, I Cleared Cache and nothing still. Then I notice I couldnt hear any sound at all. Checked settings and preferences and there is no logical explination. I uninstalled SL and it's files and redownloaded several viewers (EVEN an all text viewer) and couldnt even Teleport on the Text viewer. Even tried using a friends account. So can someone please please tell me how I could fix this? Been building while Ive been having these probs so Im ready to open store but impossible like this. My computer is an Acer Aspire 5630 Laptop and been using my neighbors wireless connection past couple months. But have my own broadband service too. WOuld greatly appriciate some help in this area. Thanks CB

Hi CrazyBear,

deinstall SL again. Then delete the SL folder in your "Documents and Settings" folder. After that install SL again.

With a normal deinstallation only, you still have all the settings from the old installation.

If that works then give the $L to a nice newbie :-)

Anything that has "wireless" attached to it is a self identifying problem. Could be a zillion things related to that. Try using a CAT 5 ethernet cable (disable wireless, use regular ethernet) and see if all your problems vanish.

But first go see if you can use a desktop suitable for today's gaming using a non wireless connection via cable modem or better to connect to your account on Second Life. (do not enable remember password when using someone else's computer) If under those conditions you still have issues then try a full clean reinstall with trip to aditi: http://annotoole.wordpress.com/inventory-blues/

You mention your laptop is an Acer.

I think there have been reports of the Acer edata software which comes preinstalled on some machines causing conflicts with SL

is one example.

You mentioned you're using a neighbor's wireless connection. Linden Lab strongly (quite strongly) recommends that you do not use Second Life with a wireless connection. It's been known to produce problems similar to the ones you are having, and has been for years.

Stop using wireless and go wired, see if that helps. (Oh, duh, somebody already said this, does having it repeated help emphasize that it's important?)

But the OP als tates they have their own broadband connection to ...

I guess the next question is does the problem occur if they use that as well.

Sorry man but I've done this several times. I've tried several different viewers and uninstalled them all before downloading the next. Even the text viewer wouldnt let me teleport.

Hmm... and those uninstalls included manually wiping those settings folders, right? (I was really hoping that was the problem with sound.)

So, tell us more about the internet connection: have you tried using your regular wired broadband? Actually, I doubt it's network in this case, even though network is very often the problem for having difficult teleporting. Being completely unable to teleport at all would require something dramatically wrong to be due to a network cause. Although, come to think of it, switching between two different network connections or, even more tricky, having both active at the same time, would be a good way to create that "something dramatically wrong," I suppose.

One thing that may help rule out network as a cause is if an alt account doesn't have the same problem when run on the same machine. If you're getting ready to set up a store, you *need* an alt account anyway (to test out permissions, at least), so if you don't have one, make one, and see how it behaves. If it has the same problem then, yeah, network is a very likely culprit, and... well, it will get ugly, disabling interfaces, etc.

If not... well, the first thing I'd suggest is being very sure *everything* was detached, most especially including any HUDs as well as the externally visible attachments such as hair, shoes, etc. If that doesn't work, it may require intervention by a Linden.

Oh--one other thing: disable Voice, if it's enabled, and either reboot or check Task Manager to make sure there's no SLVoice crap still running on the machine. That just might account for the sound problem and maybe-maybe teleport problems (although it shouldn't).

Well I disconnected from the neighbors wireless connection and on the new broadband (For the first time) And still a no go. It hasnt changed anything. And Ive also tried a couple alts and a couple friends Avi's who trusted me to give me the password and same result. Now some info I forgot to mention. I've been without virus protection for several months since Norton license expired. And something bad has happened to my machine most times when restarted or shut down. When it starts back up it will restart itself over and over until I intercept it and start it in safe mode. Then can usually restart and it works fine. But the teleport, sound , saving scripts features had all been available this whole time it just started the other day.

Oh boy. Ummm... how do you feel about a nice fresh install of Windows 7 for a weekend activity?

You could try to download AVG free antivirus, turn it lose, and see if it rescues your current OS installation. Or (more likely to work but more effort) find (or make, from a clean machine) a boot CD with the necessary tools installed to clean the nasties off your hard disk(s). But if you were thinking of a fresh Win 7 install anyway, this would be a good time for that.

(I'm guessing that whatever has infected your machine has taken some control of network connections as part s of adding your machine to a botnet.)

Are you running a firewall? I have the Zonealarm freebie installed. And when I first installed it (and subsequently reinstall it) I have to give SL permission to perform a TP.

Could be your firewall is blocking your TPs :-)

Based on my own experiences, loss of sound usually is accompanied by disconnection from the SL (stuck in limbo land), though sometimes it reestablishes connection. Every time that's happened, powering off and on of the "always on" cable modem (along with rebooting your computer) has worked for me. Has also worked for TP issues that were on my end, not SLs. Something about the modems internals and DNS cache.. I can't remember.
Also the point about manually deleting the Sl folders, not just doing an uninstall and calling it good, is very important.
