I hope someone might have some ideas to help. I've asked every I know and tried everything I could think of. I've submitted a ticket but it's kind of in limbo now as I'm guessing they ran out of things for me to try also. I was just posting here on the off chance that maybe someone else has experienced this.

I just got a new computer wednesday. It runs like a gem, everything works fine. It wasn't until yesterday that I tried to upload anything though - and that's when I realized that I *can't* upload anything. I have the three options for uploading in the file menu - sounds, animations and images. But if I actually click any of those three, it brings up an empty file-upload dialog menu. As in - there's no files there to select from and no options to browse/search/select anything. It's just the normal box that pops up ....but empty. I have no option to select anything *to* upload. The same scenario for all three file types, animation, sound and image (and bulk too). It won't let me pull down any menus to select a file location ...it doesn't even say that - it just has the "open" and "cancel" buttons with an empty file-name dropdown box. All blank. All do nothing.

I don't know what's going on. Any ideas?

My computer runs vista. :(

What I've done so far:
Uninstalled, reinstalled (deleted everything including the files/folder that an uninstall leaves behind) several times.
Tried different viewer versions, even unofficial viewers.
Tried different accounts.
Tried disabling my firewall to see if that helps.

Thanks for any help you guys!

When you pull down the file menu and click image that brings up a Windows dialog box to search for the file you want to open. So, my guess would be to look around in Vista for something preventing you from seeing your files. The first thing that popped into my mind was you have your security settings at high.........try medium.

I tried turning everything down, I tried turning everything off even. No luck. :( Thank you for taking time to give it a try though Peggy!

I did find, with help from friends, a JIRA issue that seems entirely related - and it appears this is a new Acer problem ...as every person who has responded in the thread has an Acer.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7264

I just don't know WHAT the problem is. The workaround also doesn't work for me.

If as you say those that responded all have Acer systems, it maybe a Bios bug. Is there a update Bios link on their website? Take great care when updating your Bios.

Alternatively, although slim, it maybe a corrupt system driver, look for updates on their website.

If you have XP, there is a SP3 now available, or Vista SP1, which included many updates to the networking system services, in turn this frees up many error checking routines that thwarted the connection speeds.

One of my SL friends had this exact problem and also using an Acer system, in addition to the not able to upload textures he was unable to use voice.

This was about 2 weeks ago and if I remember rightly he solved the problem which was due to the Acer edata security management blocking parts of SL.

I also have an Acer system similar to his but I had never installed the software that come with it so I never encountered any problems with SL.

I will try and contact him inworld later and re edit this post with how he overcome the problem.

The problem as I understand is that edatasecurity that came as part of the bundled software with most new Acer computers blocks certain types of connections when installed. Quite how this software works I am not entirely sure having not installed it myself on my Acer.

My friend had uninstalled his edatasecurity and his uploads and voice were back working again.

Edatasecurity is not a firewall and/or Anti Virus software.

Please make sure you have adequate protection or seek advice from your PC supplier if you are in doubt.

What kind of poses? Virtual no doubt

repay me in some way? erm let me get back to you on that one.

Your welcome, its only because my friend had more or less the same comp as me and he installed everything and I did not.

I will also add a note on the Jira as well.
