well I stuffed up!! I deeded a block to a group then thought that the land would come back to me if i ejected everyone from the group and then left it myself.

errrmmm...... no...... now I can't get onto the parcel of land bc it had restricted access on it.

Can anyone suggest what i do to sort this out?

Obviously I was having a very blonde moment so please be very specific with your advice otherwise I just don't think I"m going to get it.

o.O

Thanks for your help!!

Hi Newdoll,

If there is anyone in the group who can make you a member then have them do that.

I presume that's not the case and if so then your only option is to contact support ASAP. You'll lose your land once the group is deleted without members which I believe is within 48 hours.

thanks Bradley but I ejected everyone from the group before i quit it myself!!

In the land allotment i changed this to zero before i quit it.

Are you sure that i would lose the land instead of it being returned to my allotment?

Oh and how do i contact support?

You'll definitely lose your land because you were not the owner. Once you deeded the land to the group you were no more the owner than anyone else in the group.

I'm not sure the best way to reach support would be.

Any concierge members out there that can give Newdoll a hand with this problem??? (they have the quickest access Newdoll)

Here's a place to start by putting in a support ticket:

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/security.asp

I'd also try to get ahold of a Linden in world somehow.

Good luck!

thanks Matthew but how does this help me?

it is an issue certainly!! but i did quit the group and now it seems i'm going to lose my land unless i can get in touch with a linden to help out.

i mistakenly thought that if i quit the group then the land would be returned to the last owner of it (me)

:(

it doesn't help *you*, I'm afraid (you'll have to contact LL support as Bradley et al pointed out).

However, I created the issue since I knew someone would fall foul of this - if it gets more support particularly evidence that this is not just a hypothetical issue, then maybe (just maybe) LL will do something about it (e.g. not allowing the last two people to leave a group which owns land), and thus help others in the future!

A good move Matthew. I voted. Group management is such a quagmire for first-timers, there should be more warnings to avoid this kind of thing.

NewDoll, when you deed land to group it is no longer your land; the group is the owner. You still PAY for your tier contribution to the group, which makes some people think the land is somehow linked to them. You have to sell the land back to yourself (assuming your group role allows you to do that) in order to get ownership back.

At this point you're at LL's mercy. Submit a support ticket about it.

I was going to ask you privately for the details so I could see if concierge help would do anything, but your PMs are turned off. If your inworld right now, I'll IM you.

I always tell people to think of a group as *another person* - or an alt.
That other person / alt can own land and objects in their own right.
There can only be one owner of a piece of land or an object.
That helps to clarify issues with land and with permissions on objects.

I did exactly that.

I put in a support ticket and within 24 hours one of those nice Linden people had put the land for sale to me for zero dollars.

is there any way to rejoin the group? did you look for the group in search and see if you accidentally set it up to allow anyone to join?

Sounds like the support ticket is your best bet Newdoll, hopefully you'll get it sorted soon enough.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your feedback and comments - just to give you an update:

Phil Deakin was extremely helpful in contacting a conceirge and discuss the situation with them on my behalf.

Thank you Phil - you are a GEM!!

Yes I still had to submit a ticket which they responded to very quickly (ie. in less than 24 hours). They essentially 'sold' the block back exclusively to me of $0.

Have a lovely day

WOW a happy ending:)

But...groups, Ive often thought that there should be seperate 'types' of group. When ppl 1st come to SL they get invited to 'groups' by clubs and malls and the general assumption Ive found is that 'groups' are a purely social thing. These are used mainly for group chat and event notifications...and when they work theyre excellent.

The 'Group' settings that begin to involve land and deeding and contributing tier seem to be a whole differnet thing and a potentially dangerous area financially for the uninformed.

Very easy for someone new to become confused, there have been several threads about this... /327/66/235947/1.html the most recent.

Even for the experience group user its easy to make near fatal mistakes...I added a new resident as 'owner' late one night when I was a bit tired...what a joy that was to sort out!

Yeah Newdoll!!! That's great to hear. Glad to hear all worked out well.

Great job Phil. Maybe Newdoll will be grateful enough to volunteer to be a bot for you from time to time. ;)

LMAO! She's much too beautiful to just stand around all day naked ..... but then again :)

I'm very glad that it worked out well, Newdoll.

FTI (in case something similar comes up again), I couldn't actually help. The concierge help couldn't do anything to sort out other people's problems via a concierge member. All I managed to do was confirm that a ticket was needed, and pointed Newdoll through that process.

The best solution is make an alt and make it group owner too, that way if you kick yourself from the group, you have your alt to save you. Anyway, it's just a matter of be careful too, I mean it seams very hard to make a mistake like that!!.
