i like the new search, and dont see any problems with it ? especially the ability to see (in most cases) what the location offers before tp'ing there.
When a search-within-search facility is also implemented I'll be even happier. QFT . _____________________

My first option when I search for a product is: Classified

I despise the new search and will not use it until they take away the old search.

I use the google based one. More accurate. I searched for one of my hobbies...top FIFTY returns were keyword spaming clubs, slutwear outlets and sex clubs. Number 51, first relevant entry.
ALL search, one of the first 10 was not relevant. Better searches, less beaming into campbot infested stores with NO items relevant to the search but high traffic and a bogus keyword. Repeated the same test with my own business' main items. Places, page 3 behind unrelated clubs/clothing shops/sex places. New search, far better placement. I was happy in the beta when LL implemented it for places, my sales skyrocketed as people could find my product amid the spam and clubs, but I understand why the Lindens reverted it in the next beta and went back to the old system. It worked TOO well and relevant results screwed a lot of big name businesses / clubs that keyword spam to cheat the system and the Lab bent to their complaints. |

I use the old search. The functionality to quickly scan through 100 results and quickly see the descriptions of each is so far superior that it's not even a contest.

What this poll proves, is that even with the new search, bots still are very valid tools to get noticed as a shop owner. At least, if the result would be representative for the userbase.
Myself, I only use Search All and am very pleased with it. Only when I have to look for a user with no payment info, I use the old People search, because they do not show up in Search All. _____________________

personally i am very suprised, with all the "gaming" options in the places search, that its still used more then the All search , which to me seems to be the most reliable ?

most of the time I use places and then compare it to search all.
I also pay attention to how they may be gaming the system for higher ratings _____________________

But the new search can be gamed as badly as the old search, but it's less visible when it's happening. I know it, I keep an eye out for the ways to do it. Buying picks, keyword spam, all that _____________________

each system can be gamed i guess, but the keywords get underlined, for a 1st filter, and when clicking the link, you get the content of the parcel, this most times shows if i need/want to teleport there or not

I didn't used the old search very much as it was total useless for me. I never found an item I was looking for, only camping spots and sex clubs.
But now with the new search and the right keywords I get useful links at the first page. Georg _____________________

I almost always go to the old search tabs first for everything - places, groups, people, classified. If I cannot seem to find what I'm looking for fairly easily then I go to the 'all' tab.

I use both. I like the new search when I'm looking for places I haven't seen before. I use the old search when I'm looking for a place with people in it cause I don't wanna dance by myself.
Hate it when I show up and it's all camping bots. ![]() _____________________

I use the google based one. More accurate. I searched for one of my hobbies...top FIFTY returns were keyword spaming clubs, slutwear outlets and sex clubs. Number 51, first relevant entry. LOL - oh yeah! Just like the real google on some days ....- search for the exact name of a business and find it at the bottom of the page. I use the old tabs most - I can find what I want faster . The Events tab is a priceless resource - I love live music in SL, and art galleries, and sometimes games. Use that every day. Places, People - use em all the time. Use the new search sometimes.... just to see if something else comes up in a more generic search for goods. Not too fond of it - relevance is greatly lacking... and I would like to filter it like the tabs so I dont have to look past a million profiles and groups to get to what I want. And yes, SLX is SOOO much faster for looking for goods. Although they need a TINY category. |

Are you people that think the google search is worthless using the google operators? Boolean functions? The tools to find precise things?

I can't stand the new search, I just like to get to the point quickly, and will use my old search for everything.
I'd die if the new one became standard... |

Are you people that think the google search is worthless using the google operators? Boolean functions? The tools to find precise things? This is the problem Cristalle, I'd wager the majority of people don't know how to improve their search experience (and as there are no easy tips available that's no surprise) and even if they did, plenty of land owners have cottoned onto the fact that people don't use boolean operators and speech marks for searches, making phrases largely redundant. |
