From: Tarina Sewell it's funny cause I was sorting my inventory all day, it is/was rather large. but I shrinked it down to half the size (yeah me) and now issues inworld.. I wonder if something I deleted was a vital part of the cluster database thingy doodad that broke..... I curse you!!! May the shoes of a thousand avatars rain down upon your butt!!

It must be our fault, all our junk has clogged up the asset servers. /me hangs head in shame. Secondly, you do all know that in order to log in now, you need a big bus, and a big bag of peanut butter cookies (my other Free NPIOF Alt Account points to other thread). Otherwise, the gatekeeper won't let you in.

From: Tarina Sewell Ok, I was having issues inworld decided to relog, when I tried to get back on it says
" due to high load logins temporarly existed" there is only 59k people online WTF!!!!?!?!?!?
are you fkin kidding me???? I can not get online because to many people are using SL..
This is the first time I have been really pissed off about not being able to login because I am thinking about all the alts and newbies with free accounts right now online and me as a paying client am not able to! Yep high logins logins do exist and not always temporarily either Usually at high load they only let subscribed users in, I hear WoW and many other MMO's block free trails accounts too at high load times. So make sure all bots are premium paying if they want to get in to camp.

They blogged about doing it in Feb 2007, but never actually implemented it (See my forum sig line). They came up with a much better plan: 1. Just sit there and wait until concurrent logins get to a number over which tranasctions/Tps/rezzing normally begin to fail. 2. Do nothing, just let the logins climb 3. Wait until the reports come in 4. Do nothing 5. Wait until the whole thing is completely and obviously borked. 6. Stop all logins 7. Think about broadcasting in inworld message, but what the hell - everybody probably knows anyway. 8. Have a break 9. Update the status page to say that the database is feeling sad 10. Have a break 11. Check if things kinda sorta feel in some mysterious way to be settled down 12. Open the floodgates again. 13. Forget that problems began to arise at x concurrency. Maybe it will be OK tomorrow for some magical reason.
