Just got word of it from a couple groups. But, Waterhead and Korea have gone (Mature)... I guess it's been a long time coming for that, but heh... Can anyone say floodgates? (^_^)y

Mature Welcome Area
The ratio of Mature rated sims to PG rated sims is roughly 9 to 1, indicating a greatly predominant choice on the part of most users to not be bound by the restrictions imposed by the PG standard. Why then is there no Linden provided Mature welcome area, no place to serve as a Mature rated hangout in the way that the DAMB junction Welcome Area does for those who want to use strong language and engage in mature discussion and display together?

Perhaps there should be a Mature Welcome Area, with a choice of PG or Mature presented at OI and HI, and with a sign presenting both choices at both Welcome Areas.

I think there'll be a whole rash of PG places turning mature, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, in spite of the Community Standards, it's been commonly understood that a sex bed discreetly placed in a PG home is OK. I know of at least two PG mainland rental estates where a sex bed and the odd poseball is the norm in almost every home.

This begs the question of how on earth LL intend to enforce their own policies (so what's new?) UNLESS they simply make PG the new Mature.

Secondly, JP Linden said at the educators' brown bag meeting that "we're also going to create a separate PG designation which is going to be an option for anyone that wants what you’d think of as a truly clean somewhat more maybe isolated experience".

He could have been expressing himself poorly, but to me, that reads as either existing PG will be changed to Mature to enable this new experience to be created (I mean, how could you have a really squeaky clean PG next to Mature parcels on mainland, when the existing PG is even squeaky clean?), OR that LL really does plan to add an extra layer - a super-PG category... hmmm... another new continent, perhaps? Oh wait - they could just use the Teen Grid ;)

i think PG was always a bad choice for separating sims..
even the term adult ..
Mature was kind of used as adult areas or the ability to pretty much do most things adult..
PG says to me..hey kids you can uncover your eyes..

the only thing is there really are no kids here or there are not supposed to be real kids here anyways.. and instead of hey lets be mature adults about this we had..whoo hoo i'm off to the kinky mature sims for some good ole fashion mature fun..

maybe Mature will now have the meaning of..ok lets be mature about this rather than whoo look at those bewbies!! :D

Lets just have Mature and then Mature/wink hehehehehe

or Mature .then rated R and then Anything goes lol

i just think if they are going to use a rating system they need to get the kids ratings out of there if they want to please the politicians.. ;)

Whenever I'm at a welcome area and I see a nude newbie wandering around someone always says, "Hey this is a pg area put some clothes on!" I guess they aren't going to say that any more.

That's one of the changes happening with the new adult stuff, they must be testing it ahead of time or something. With the new system, accounts are supposed to be checked for adult flagging before they get sent to a "nearby location", and kept out of the PG ones.

hey i got to make an appearance at the Hangout the other day.

The place i hang out has RLV traps all over that chain down the innocent explorers, it is great. Some of the traps have timers, some do not, and some that put you into very compromising positions. :eek:

The only problem is that this "easy fix" doesn't address the problem...which is the hooligans infesting the welcome areas and giving newcomers a poor first impression of Second Life.

We had a group of these show up at Caledon Oxbridge last week. They weren't doing anything AR'able...just dancing and carrying on in the middle of the orientation area, making it difficult to follow the chat and being a distraction to newcomers who were actually trying to Learn Something.

Fortunately, Oxbridge has actual live coverage nearly 24/7. When the behavior became irritating enough, BAM. Hooligans ejected, problem solved.

LL won't let the Mentors have that kind of authority, and they won't police the welcome areas themselves.
