Hello fellow forum dwellers,

So, I suddenly found out I can ice-skate really really well ..... and went looking for winter-style places to go last night to test my new-found skills.

Found the Musical Ice Caves thanks to Marianne (magical place!) and Romance Ice Skating, which has fabulous ramps and such. Had a ball with snowball fights too.

Been to Dream and a big ski resort in the past.
Aspen is on my must-go-back there list, although there I discovered that ice skates and parachutes don't go together well

Question: any tips on other cool wintery places?

Your answers will be greatly appreciated :)

Definitely go to weather channel. They have surfing, desert biking and most importantly SNOW SKIING. I couldn't ski worth a damn on it but that's the same as how I ski in RL. I had a lot of fun with it though and it's something you could get better at with practice.

Be sure to take a parka, that mountain is very snowy.

Edit: Also check out Misty Acres. It's an amusement park that currently has a winter theme. I checked it out the other night and was thinking it might be a fun place for a forum outing.

Funnily enough I recently tried ice skating and spent most of the time on my backside whilst a young lady stood nearby pointing and laughing!!! :)

@ Sally. How's that??

Yet again I'm going to spend all of today writing a huge list of places to go and visit whilst watching the hand of the clock creep it's way round to 5pm. The Weather Channel??? Snow?? Parka??? Skiing???? It's so unfair - only 7 hours to go .........

Oh, and if you don't have ice-skates, pick up the freebies (with tricks HUD and free snowball thrower) at Abranimations (sic). The snowballs actually knock you off your feet.
A great laugh.

Thanks for the tip, Sally:)

You're welcome :)

My face actually ached from laughing so much when I tried the snowball fight last night. Very very funny.

Somewhere towards the top of your screen, left-hand side you'll see "User CP", click that, then choose "edit options" and then click "enable private messages" :)

That's what I'm hoping for .... long list of places to fall over on ice skates and get buried in snow :)

Sorry I meant "Hows that" as in "I've just done it. Does it work?"

To throw snowballs do you just select one of the pictures on the HUD? Is it as easy as that?

You need to find the snowball thrower in your inventory, right-click and wear it, a snowball appears in your right hand (not good for us lefties, but with a little practice :p ) then go into mouselook, aim at your opponent or random passer-by :D and click on them. :)

I remember the snow-ball fight the Lindens arranged I think last-year. I never made it to the actual event, but it seemed a few other people were wandering around and soon got into a big snowball fight which was fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun! There are a few Lindens I would not mind tossing a few snowballs at.

I feel pretty confident in claiming Skate Scotland has the largest ice rink in SL.

Oh, and check out Dollyrock:

Sinners Paradise froze over the harbor last year for skating...I haven't checked this year, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. And Skoopf skate, omg!

There's also a sim with a name like Winterland, but I can't double check it as I'm at work.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Marianne mentioned Winterland elsewhere I think, must check that one.

Skoopf is also a place? I just know their skates, although prefer the Abranimations freebies, very big but I never knew I could do those tricks :D

Nooo, I just love the skates...they were directly responsible for my vampire buddies putting up a frozen blood rink on a friend's island last year. :D

Winterland, afaik, isn't open for the season yet. It's in Del Aqua, and you can at least peek in from Del Sol.

Musical Ice Cave is in NCC. There is also an ice field around it for sating snd stuff.

Also, Abracadabra is all wintery now, an quite fun.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I have not quite officially finished yet, but there is a Winter Festival on Tin Teddy island. A skating rink and a Christmas market, the chance to sit on Santa's knee and get a present and dancing in the Baroque ballroom.

Aside from the Magical Musical Ice Caves in the NCC sim, which I mentioned before on this thread, there's now two more I gotta mention.

Livingtree
It's all winterized. You can skate on the river and in the multi-level skate park behind the school. Also, there are adult and kid-sized snowmobiles that you can rez and use throughout the sim. There's make-a-snowman kits available, and sweaters, an cold-looking kid skins, and a place for makin' snow angels, an a big gingerbread house, too.

Winterland (located in Del Aqua, next to Del Sol)
This is due to open *today,* but I got a preview over the weekend. Lots of the same parts from last year (though new stuff for sale an awesome looking yule trees an wreaths), There's a lot of skating areas (watch for thin ice), a snow shovel sled, a sleight-ride in the sky, and a lot of hidden references and fun stuff. Also, most of their holiday stuff is dirt cheap, too.

Forum folk: wanna do a group trip to either?

Mari
