Shouting Neighbor

So I got a neighbor that feels that he should “shout” everything he says. Has some sort of game going on at his club. Man is that annoying! Is there anyway to mute a shout before I nicely tell him to stuff his shout where the sun don’t shine?

The mute selection does not work?

i recently had this too. i went over and kindly explained, and invited them over to my place to see what i mean. it stopped abruptly.

i am now renting store space from him. LOL

It may be that the neighbor is trying to attract business by having his scripted objects "Shout" instead of "Say"--or he may just not know that they can be configured to change that. Also, he may himself be shouting, simply not realizing that a shout goes 100m in all directions (if near a sim border, this is especially unfortunate). A gentle, informative exchange *might* get the desired results (which is better than having to mute, because once you've muted, you won't hear all the noise to which your guests will be subjected). But yes, you can mute him and/or any scripted objects that might be in use.

I'm not logged in right now, but I think you can just go to Edit > Mute List to add him, and I believe there's still a Mute button in peoples' 2nd Life profiles (Search > People). You can't JUST mute shouting; it's all-or-nothing.

i want to note that my shouting issue was even crossing over from their sim into mine. they are farthest north west in theirs, and i am (almost) farthest south east in mine. but to be fair, they just plain didn't know it was travelling so far away.

and even if one person mutes the shouting person or machine, other people will still hear it. they really should not have things set to shout on a regular basis.

If he does not see reason, consider relocating to a skybox far away from any annoying shouting.

This is where you write a script that listens for the door. Then when it hears the door, it shouts back "Nobody cares!"

A somewhat unknown, but useful feature:

If you add the Shouting individual to your parcel banlist, those shouts will not only be muted for you, but anyone who visits your parcel

There is something new and useful to be learnt every day! A great feature! Is this described anywhere or just passed on by word of mouth?

Does this extend to shouting devices owned by the banned owner?

in this case, maybe banning is a little extreme if one hasn't first spoken with the shouter and tried to resolve it cordially.

This guy is on another sim as well….seems like well over the 100m but I might be wrong. Anyway I don’t know him and don’t want to start off on the wrong foot with him, so I really don’t want to mute or ban him. I guess I’ll just IM him and see what he says. I just hated to be a whiner if there was a way to mute the shout without any confrontation.

Guess I have some ideas if he doesn’t cooperate.

You need to come by the store babe -- just redid it over the weekend -- still gotta do the parcel up all nice and purdy but its coming along

if i were you, i'd fly over and talk to them in person. compliment whatever deal they have going there, but explaining that while you know they are having a bunch of fun, it's a bit annoying if you are not right there enjoying the party.

maybe that gentle appraoch will be better received than an anonymous IM. they probably just have no clue, and are very nice people (hopefully).

there was this club next to me and it was annoying as all his objects shouted so there was a lot of spam...i had asked him nicely to make his objects not shout...raffle things and such....he tells me he has stopped it...but he DIDNT and not only that his employees started shouting their emotes which drove me BONKERS....so i created an object which i named "annoyed neighbor" and put a shouting script in it that basically said "stfu" and so youd have:
annoyed neighbor shouts STFU...it was hilarious

We've got a group of folks that do some sort of military RPing next to us and they Shout all the time. I'm guessing that this is because the parcel is longer than 20m and they want to all hear each other. I've been working on polite wording to suggest that they do some sort of group IM or Friends Conference Call IM. They might not have thought of those options to get past the 20m limit on normal chat.

So it is possible that your guys is Shouting to simply be heard through out the entire area, not even realizing that it carries past sim boundaries.

I'm sure it's meant to be heard around “his” entire area since it’s a game within his club.

Maybe I’ll just join in and shout dumb answers to his silly trivia and annoy the heck out of everybody there too. Heck maybe I'll win something lol

I had my own way of shutting people up by shouting back replies and saying how far away I was from them, when polite hints were ignored ...

Give the wrong answer to a trivia question and then insist it's right, no matter how patently ridiculous it is.

Example:

Him: When did Pope Innocent III preach the First Crusade?
You: 1997
Him: The Correct answer was 1099.
You: No! It was 1997. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was eating tomato soup.
Him: I'm sorry, it was 1099\
You: Where's my prize? I got the answer right!
Him: No you didn't.
You: Are you retarded!!?? Don't you remember Pope Innocent III? He was calling for the First Crusade in 1997. It was right after Prince Henry joined the Canadian Navy!
Him: Moving on...Our next question...
You: NO GODDAMN IT I WANT MY PRIZE! I WON YOUR STUPID CONTEST WHERE'S MY PRIZE I DEMANDMYPRIZENOWNOWNOW!!!
Him: What was the 32nd State admitted to the Union
