Well my original problem has been resolved, I am now a basic account holder once again. They didn't take back my extra stipend payment either...must be xmas or summit!!
There is another way to buy land. I bought a nice plot on the Otherland Archipelago using paypal. One initial payment followed by your monthly tier. Simple!

What sucks is that I opened a ticket about this and got a reply in a half hour, stating that I couldn't buy islands as a basic member. I replied back letting them know I don't want to buy an island, I just want to be able to buy from a private land owner before my account goes back to basic, or have the downgrade cancelled. Haven't heard from them since then which was about 5 hours ago, but they were real quick to try to close the issue when they didn't understand my request. |

If you're needing to buy land quickly, you could always make an alt to (or have someone you trust) buy the land and then deed it to a group that you own. When support gets around to cancelling the downgrade you could just sell the land back to yourself again if you don't want to bother with group-owned land. |
