Sex Clubs- Are they illegal in Second Life now? I work as a dancer in a sex club. Last night a man came in claiming he was a SL police and that we need to shut down. I am not the owner of the club, but I love the club and have worked there almost since it opened. I love the girls there and they are my best friends in the game.
Was this man b.s.ing us?? I quickly ejected and banned him since we had customers at the club before any real embarrassment happened, but it got me a lil worried.
What if they really close it down. I will be so upset and I'd feel really bad for the owners who worked so hard on it. I do not have a home in SL. This club is my home.
After I had banned him he IMed me and said not to be surprised if I got a suspension, etc. I quickly muted him. He also contacted the owner. She also thought he was lying. But he said just like the gambling is being shut down, the erotic clubs are as well.
That will be very disappointing.
What is true???

The man was wrong. He should have been AR'd, especially if he was claiming to represent the Lindens.
Sex is not banned in SL at this time.
None of the "police" in SL are real, they are just fronts for griefers who like to wear costumes and call each other by ranks and titles.

What is true??? I wouldn't worry too much, sounds like that guy was living out some ego-trip wannabe fantasy. I doubt very much that anything will happen to your club. Keep him banned and muted, and everything will be ok

That's what we thought.
The owner did ban him throughout her land.
That is a relief.

What is true??? No it's not illegal, and I wouldn't worry about 'SL police' or any similar organisations/groups. People in these groups are either (or a combination of): 1. Well meaning, but misguided. 2. RPing. 3. Greifers. 4. 'Troubled' individuals. As long as the parcel is flagged as 'Mature', you won't be shut down. There is the added complication of flagging a parcel as 'age verified', but it's not clear what the policies regarding this flag are at this early stage.

As a creator of adult furry content I get an annoying number of these "police" types (quite a lot considering my fairly modest visitor numbers) claiming that what I produce is "illegal" and that I will be banned etc. etc. I'm a fan of freezing them and just leaving them till they go away, or banning them. If you are ever approached by SL "police" then you should just ignore them. Heck, if you're a dancer at an SL sex club then you should just put on a police uniform of your own

Yes, you are being BSed. Unless their name ends in Linden they have NO authority in SL in general.
Now if the club is on a private sim owned by some one other than the club owner and they identified themselves as representing the sims owner then you should have your owner contact the sims owner. Their may be a violation of covenant that the owner needs to address, though if the club has been open for some time I doubt this would be the case.
In short there is no Police Force in SL that is sanctioned by LL, and so do not have any more authority than any other resident. Some private sims have Private Security teams, but again they draw on the power of the private sim owner and can only represent that owner and not SL or Linden Labs.

From: Hiro Queso There is the added complication of flagging a parcel as 'age verified', but it's not clear what the policies regarding this flag are at this early stage. I'm under the impression that mature parcels should be enabling this now, though I for one don't understand the difference between enabling age-verification for a parcel, and flagging it as mature. Surely age-verification should be enabled automatically for mature parcels (but not mature estates, which may have PG content)? My thinking is that it's LL's policy of our land being our responsibility, so we can let people on our land with mature content if we want, but in doing so may be liable for allowing minors to see stuff they shouldn't, without having taken any measures to stop them. I don't it currently blocks anyone though, I think we just have the checkbox now to start flagging content, and people are also able to verify at this stage, but I don't believe blocking is ready yet.

There is no "SL Police". And those AV's that pretend to be are just attention seeking morans. So many people fall prey to these AV's. LL will let you know what is Legal and Not. These Forums will tell you very fast each day if you read them.

The age verification is still in BETA. It is not mandatory yet. It won't be until they have a mandatory upgrade to the viewer.

Just remember these rules of thumb:
The only folks who have the authority to enforce Linden policy will have the last name "Linden". No exceptions, ever.
"House Rules" can only be enforced with the consent of the landowner/estate owner. No exceptions, ever.

There is the added complication of flagging a parcel as 'age verified', but it's not clear what the policies regarding this flag are at this early stage. I will go with the vast majority being #'s 4+5. When I was managing properties for estate owners and club managers I would give them like any other guest free reign until they started to either hassle my workers or my guests. The unfortunate fact of the matter is they (Wannabe tag wearing and SWAT uniform bearing "officers" with NO affiliation with LL at all) are looking for what they can get away with and grief a group of folks they can find on the map. The more green dots under your roof, the more often these folks come along. Insta-eject-bans for them the moment they try to tell *anyone* what they can and cannot do in SL if it's on my watch. Your acting in the place of management, given the right to manage parcel access rights are well within your capabilities to deal with the problem and then just as quickly forget about the trouble makers you eject/ban. Don't worry about a thing you're doing, Jaye. In fact, bravo - these police wannabes need to be put in their place along with all the other griefers. Outside of your plot and ultimately out of SL.

Off topic but related. In over a year in SL the ban list on my land is very short. (maybe I'm just lucky).
So, here's the question. Is it possible to ban a group from your land? What I mean is I add a group to my ban list and any one that belongs to that group is also banned. I've never heard this mentioned and it's most likely not possible or even a great idea in general. But I've seen a few so called "SL Police" on their power trips and I wouldn't mind banning them just for grins. LOL

I have a "SL Police Ossifer" title that I switch to when confronted by them They can be amusing, I also love the militias and military types for which I like "Modern Major General" as a title

What is true??? Rest assured that if Linden Lab wanted your club shut down, they would NOT do so as an AV dressed in a police uniform. Think more along the lines of, club gone without any fanfare. Perhaps you not being able to access Second Life if they felt you were involved deeply enough.

Flag it as Mature, sure. But DO NOT FLAG YOUR PARCEL AS RESTRICTED TO AGE VERIFIED RESIDENTS!!!!! This BETA implementation is NOT WORKING yet, although it's available on the latest viewers. If you set this flag, you may be unable to access your own land, even if you have verified your age with LL/Integrity/Aristotle. The verification is not getting transferred in-world.

Mari I welcome child avs to my home lol... thats the only place I have ability to ban at the moment (Soon a couple whole sims XD) But the only people I get 'power trippy' on is those who have no manners. SUch as at Bondage Ranch, if they come up to me and start asking me what turns me on (A guy did this once.. he asked if I like males I replied only if they behave well, so he proceeded to ask me what turns me on to do to my subs...dumbass) I'll tell them to go away or I'll punt them across the grid... not that I can legally but it feels good to say

Deal with SL "police" the same way you deal with RL police. Demand proof of authority from them before you do anything they ask or tell you to do.

You and anyone who witnessed it should AR him for pretending to represent Second Life and there for Linden Labs, give the correct time and day in the AR so LL can find the chat logs.

@op: most likely BS, definitely on mainland (unless it was pg land, then it's still not illegal, just against TOS)... that said, if they represented a private island sim owner with a covenant prohibiting such things, then it's possible that it could be reported to said owner and the club could be uprooted by that sim owner. (actually private island holders can bounce you for any reason legitimate or not... a nasty loophole that's been used to scam others before) From: Tex Nasworthy Off topic but related. In over a year in SL the ban list on my land is very short. (maybe I'm just lucky).

Okiphia, I'm just curious why that guy's behavior was innapropriate or unexpected at a place called "Bondage Ranch?" Is there some context to this story that is not obvious here?
