From: Dekka Raymaker if each post took on average ten minutes, inclusive of reading, posting and re-reading, 19,940 posts equates to 138 days (24 hour long days) of posting. who the heck takes 10 min to read before posting and reread after?

From: CarlCorey Colman Actually, "five 9's" or 99.999% is the gold standard for totally mission critical business systems. That works out to about 5 minutes downtime a year. That's just not a practical goal for most systems. That said, I agree that the current grid reliability is indeed better now than at any time I can recall, this weekend's turmoil notwithstanding. It has been a while since I had to actually calculate and work with the downtime numbers -- I could not remember if the 5 9's was total digits or digits past the decimal.

From: Brenda Connolly Actually, I'm thinking of stopping at 19,999...I think it would be a fitting way to exit this madness. It would but that kind of cold turkey can be hard to suffer.. Shall I get something medicinal out for when the time comes?

From: LittleMe Jewell who the heck takes 10 min to read before posting and reread after? Possibly the "10 minutes" figure comes from an assumption that people might read a thread before posting in it....if you average 'posting in a thread with fewer than 30 posts, the reading of which might take less than 5 minutes' with 'posting in a thread with several dozen posts', then 10 minutes per post (for reading, writing and proofing) seems not-unreasonable.

Well, if you pop in often enough to skim things, you often only have a few new posts to read before posting. And there are a few people that I do just skip right over without reading what they say. And I only sometimes proofread, depending on my mood.

Shall I get something medicinal out for when the time comes? Why wait? We might as well make it as easy as humanly possible.

The OP is a whine, yes.
The point she was making is....(I read it this way.)
None of the responses she received said why the grid was down. She jumped to a conclusion that LL was hiding the fact that they were responsible for it and she wanted and apology.
Still an ass.

I think that we'd all settle for nine fives ( Okay, it's fun to make fun, but really... a weekend of problems is just going to happen every once in a while. LL could get SL to a point of "five 9's ( no, really... stop laughing ) but I'm pretty sure that none of us could afford the resulting fees...

To the OP:
Proxima, this is what just about EVERY weekend used to be like, a couple of years ago.
I'm sorry it was a bad one...I was inconvenienced too. But for folks who have been around a while, it almost brings a little smile of nostalgia along with the frustration.

And for those of us that remember EVERY weekend being a mess, times like this past one remind us of how good it really is now - how far LL really has come in grid stability.
