That's already against the ToS. Everything in your profile is supposed to be PG.
But is it when all it says is RL pics for sale and a price it does not say they are naked ones that would make a minister blush

Congress Awaits FTC Report on Explicit Content in Virtual Worlds
http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/05/11/congress-awaits-ftc-report-explicit-content-virtual-worlds in which Mark Kirk (R-IL) says: "Sites like Second Life offer no protections to keep kids from virtual "rape rooms," brothels, and drug stores. If sites like Second Life won't protect kids from obviously inappropriate content, the Congress will." Also http://www.virtualworldsnews.com/2009/05/ftc-reporting-to-congress-on-virtual-worlds-kids-and-explicit-content.html links the FTC report to Linden Lab's actions. |

In http://www.clickz.com/3517251 Mark Kingdon (M Linden) says:
Going forward, publishers will face a new level of scrutiny from marketers. What CEO isn't going to ask her CMO whether their company's brand appears in objectionable places? Traditional media are more heavily regulated. In general, if access is free, content is required to be "decent." If users opt in (i.e., subscribe), content can take on other qualities. Case in point: Howard Stern's show isn't meant for all listeners and isn't a placement choice for many brands. Yet it's highly successful. His travails with the FCC contributed to his decision to move his program to Sirius, a closed (subscription based, opt-in) environment. |

"Watch the video of Sunday's interview with representatives of Linden Lab, talking about the new policy toward adult content in Second Life, as well as new voice technology."

I am posting here to ask for some help in understanding and analysing the reasons for the adult content changes. Please could you help me find all statements by the Lindens about why this is happening. If you're looking for their statements here I suggest you do a search for posts on Blondins name first. That way you'll filter out the 20000+ non relevant (to your search) comments Try the press releases, there was also a press conference that was held around 1 May which is interesting. These are also good for understanding the current context LL is working to - you'll notice lots of push towards making SL look credible in the eyes of business and educators. The meta post probably sums up what this is about more than anything else. Anecdotally I would say there are a lot less worldly wise people coming in and they literally cannot cope with having to deal with what they see themselves. So a lot of this probably is about trying to increase retention rates amongst non corporate types. There's no real money in supplying business although it may look good, the real cash is in the great unwashed coming in and staying. as an aside.. Apparently the largest telephony provider in Australia, who has a presence in sl, has just sent out a group notice saying the teens are coming. The company is called Telstra and the group is called the pond I think - certainly that was what the island was called when they first opened it. So if anyone fancies checking out their group notices it might be enlightening. _____________________

That's already against the ToS. Everything in your profile is supposed to be PG. Everything in *search* is supposed to be PG according to the current community standards: "5. Incecency....Names of Residents, objects, places and groups are broadly viewable in Second Life directories and on the Second Life website, and must adhere to PG guidelines." This has been widely ignored, as any lookup of nasty words will show. |

I'd completely missed this. It is indeed weird, and seems to suggest that LL thinks this policy somehow will help with the griefing problems. Could they possibly imagine that obscenity griefers will be drawn to the Adult regions so as to "fit in"--as opposed to targeting the now squeaky-clean Mainland where their work will really stand out? if you think this is funny check out the quotes from Cyn during the press conference when someone asks why they're doing this rather than fixing the kids with the flying penises. I thought she was going to choke lol _____________________

The Bigpond groups are not open enrollment, so you would have to ask someone inside the group to relay the information |

If they don't change the standards that sounds a good idea for my next cleanup campaign since these forums are due for closure imminently. I could start by ARing anything and anybody that includes a word from that list someone made. NonPG images too which should take down a lot of places and groups. _____________________

I don't see such a notice in the Big Pond Orientation Group. I'll try to check the Friends of Big Pond group later today. here's the quote of the info that I have Am I just thick as two planks or is everyone in the same boat here? Posting bloated, contradicting documentation that even the large businesses don't seem to be able to figure out is not helping anyone. I got a message inworld today from my local group here in Australia who is also the countrys biggest Telco. The message stated the Teen Grid would soon be moving over to the mainland??? But I remember an audio feed from LL that said this was definitely not the case. So if even a multi-billion dollar company doesn't know whats going on how could anybody else be expected to? https://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/1315?start=330&tstart=0 post 342 _____________________

Hello everyone. Please limit posts to this thread to statements of purpose or other evidence from Linden Labs, so that it remains a useful and concentrated repository of information and does not get buried in discussion or rumours. It will be more useful to all of us that way. As Tali Rosca said "It's not like we lack threads with discussion and interpretation. Starting one more here would just dilute things." Thank you!

Since you originally appeared to be looking for context for a business decision I think the thread has stayed on topic. If you wish to create a legacy information thread then I suggest you start again, find the link to Blondin posts and take the links from slapt.me and add them. Slapt.me has the most comprehensive set of links and information regarding this change. _____________________

It's not a legacy thread. It's a current research thread.
From the "Revolting Adults" group: http://copperrobot.com/index.php?post_id=488926 For those who missed the interview a week ago, here is a link to the audio of the event. Mitch Wagner interviewed two Linden employees about the upcoming adult content changes. Near the end of the interview, you'll hear the answer to the question: "Who asked for these changes?" He asked earlier in the interview, but went back to press the question when several of us sent him IMs saying he had let them get away with a vague answer. If someone could post transcripts of key parts that would be good. I will do it soon if not. |
