I wonder who this was. The only other kid av I've ever seen at NCI was Imnotgoing Sideways - but you're definitely NOT describing her...
It was over a year ago, and I'm afraid I can't remember the name now. Very nice person whoever it was.

Whereas I don't act rude to people in game just because I don't care for their play style, I do find child av's extremely creepy and inapropriate. I'm not surprised to find people on these forums defending it, heck theres a whole slew of people who defend NAMBA out there, so I tend not to undererstimate the audacity of the sickos out there. Gosh, thanks for lumping people like me in with NAMBLA. That really makes me feel good. :-/ Now the serious question: what is creepy and inappropriate about living an otherwise innocent Second Life? Would these people have attacked someone who's avi is an animal, or someone dressed up as a goth/rocker/stripper/medieval or anything else we see around SL? Are child avi's so bad? being a cub, wel kitten in my case, is kinda funny when it comes to hate mongers, they can't get their mind around what to hate more, me being a child or me being a furry. |

Bigots are becoming a major source of yawns from me. Let's see, if your not an alt, you have become an expert of SL creepiness and what is appropriate for SL in at most 6 months. Stick around a few years and learn. What you think is a opinion, nothing more. _____________________

The reason that child avatars create particular hysteria in Second Life is because Linden Labs cordially invited the residents of Second Life to create hysteria about child avatars.
For some historical perspective, check some official blog posts like: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/09/accusations-regarding-child-pornography-in-second-life/ http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/10/further-clarification-regarding-age-verification/ http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/31/keeping-second-life-safe-together/ |

Child avi's - Good or bad? I don't personally like child-avs, don't really understand the appeal, but I don't mind other people playing them, unless they're really over-playing the "kid" talk to the point I find it painful to talk to them ![]() I always will support people's right to be a kid in SL, or an animal, or a pan-dimensional being, or inside-out, or whatever they want to be. But in conclusion; they're neither good nor bad, I'm happy for people to wear them, so long as they don't do anything inappropriate or annoy me ![]() _____________________

HOW PERVERTED!!!"? unless you see that ava doing something unseemly, its not cause for panic, or pitchforks. to respond to the OP's post: Some people don't get it. so they take something they don't understand and belittle it, until it conforms to their version of SL. usually, they don't stay around SL or they find like minded people, and create the exact scenario you witnessed. the key to this is: mute and ignore. and while i did post a response to this, to stop feeding threads that give voice to this narrow minded, one dimensional bigots. _____________________

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I was in a PG sim, shopping for hair when 2 Child AVS came in and verbally attacked me for just wearing my AO. And when I told them to leave me alone...they only kept on cursing at me and insulting me until I got fed up and called them perverts. Then they get offended and "report" me. I said. Go for it. Needless to say I never got banned. I personally wouldnt let a child AV in my home, store, and what not....It isn't that I don't like them but some are snotty...and not in the cut way.

And if it had been a couple of furries acting objectionably, wolluld you be banning all furries? If it was two white Caucasian males, would you ban all white Caucasian males? White Caucasian females? What if they both had names that started with the letter N? Ban all Avatars with N in their names? No, it's only child avs that touch this repulsion off in you, isn't it? Look in the mirror and confront your own creepiness. |

I have no problem with child avatars being in SL. But RL's who have child avatars have a duty to ensure that their av is not demeaned in any way that is insulting to the dignity of RL children. Maybe this should be true of all avatars, I don't know, but it's particularly important with child ones.

I am not at all creeped out by child avs but what DOES creep me out is people who look at a child av and the first thing that crosses their mind is of some sort of sexual nature. Like one time I was mentoring at one of the info hubs, and a newbie, created that same day, came up to me and demanded to know (didn't ask, but demanded over and over again) "Where are the children? Where do I go to find the children." Those are the types of people I would like to see booted off.

really is it that bad? i mean some of you make out that being yelled at is something that happens everyday. i'v been full time fur for at least 5 months now and the worst thing i'v seen is a few spinning cubes at luskwood. i'v never been verbally attacked, actually the worst i get is people IM'ing me and saying, "don't take this the wrong way, but are you a furry?" and thats usually from newer people who are just ill informed and there usually quite happy to hear my reasons for being fur.
someone mentioned earlier that the sandbox at furnation gets griefed all the time, all sandboxes do. hell i'v even done it in my earlier days. Just because it's a place for furs doesn't mean thats the reason why it's getting griefed. -Crunch _____________________

But many see this as a huge problem, its only a problem if one allows it to be ![]() _____________________

Where do I go to find the children." Those are the types of people I would like to see booted off. amen to that. I look at a child and I don't see any inherent sexual content there. I also wonder about people who see child av and possible sex abuse in every sort of female av that's *not* a distorted 8 foot tall amazon with impossible legs and boobs. (makes me wonder if they are a repressed pedophile!) I also take issue with those who see impropriety in those adults who enjoy wearing cute frilly short victorian costumes (often they were tagged as gothic lolita - though there's some significant crossover with burlesque and vaudeville = but burlesque just brings up strippers and I think most people these days don't have any clue what vaudeville costumes are anymore, sigh.). Heck its hard to find cute sexy clothes to dance in now. :/ that being said, yes, some people with child avs have majorly creeped me out. There was a point where there were a whole lot of them, being rather pushy about their chosen RP, which was quite annoying. But most were obvious ageplayers back in the day when it wasn't banned. However, I'm not so silly to tar everyone with the same brush. There are plenty of people with child avs (as well as doll avs) who don't do that. Those people I have no truck with. child av = no problem. being sexual in a child av = major creepy. issues with adults wearing frilly short flexiskirts in victorian stylings /or playing dolls in such costumes - move to saudi arabia and leave sl, you don't belong here ![]() _____________________

I'm with Toy at the harassment level I receive. Except that I haven't had her long history in SL, so I really haven't been harassed at all yet. I'm not one to sit still too, I'm all over the map... Sometimes stabbing at it blindly... Sometimes flying as far as I can go before I hit a banline. (^_^)
A small number of my friends were made that way. It's often that I'm the first "kid AV" that a person has ever seen, and most of the time, they're rather elated to meet me. \(^_^)/ One thing I noticed now, since I got my Mentor tag, I've had people approach me quite seriously about the "legality" of child avatars. I refer to the blog entries I know of and some information I got from attending Linden Governance meetings and they're often satisfied with the information I give them. It leaves me a bit amazed at how uninformed many people are... And I'm glad I can be a catalyst to informing them when they want to know. (^_^)y _____________________

if one avoids places that this may happen at you seldom run into it. you do have the truth of it there, i'm most often at home on laputa and while i do get alot of visitors, having Owner written over your head probably does deter people from saying something stupid. -Crunch _____________________

Its all in fun and not sexual or perverted for me. _____________________
